“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” “they are driven a lot”

Back in the Gearhead Gazzette office after a great trip out west to the Grand National Roadster Show.

shows themselves or in a discussion of gearheads, wherever they are, the merit and reality of the vehicles in the shows is always questioned, it seems like.

To say we had fun would be an under statement. We’re going to bring you all the pic’s and stories of our travels and the GNRS and AMBR in upcoming issues.

A lot of folks think these cars never get driven. The reality is the majority of them are driven a lot and in fact to and from the show, no matter the weather on setup day.

This issue we have a feature on the ISCA Championship Finals for 2016. They were held in Chicago last year as part of the Chicago World of Wheels show.

Yes there are the “BIG BUCK” rides that are built solely for showing, but they too have to run, move and do the things a car is supposed to do, in order to go for awards like the RIDLER & AMBR.

The Championship Finals is where all the class champions for the previous year, come together to see who will be named Grand Champion. A accumulation of the indoor ISCA show circuit.

Instead of judging whether a car drives or not, why not enjoy the show and maybe get a couple of cool idea’s for your current or next project.

Indoor shows and the vehicles that are in them always lead to lively discussions.

Jimmy B.

The iconic Rat Trap AA/Fuel Altered race car will be a focal point in the cocktail reception area of the Wyndham Garden Hotel Gainesville during the 27th annual International Drag Racing Hall of Fame Banquet, presented by Lucas Oil Products. The event will take place on March 16 in Gainesville, Florida. A banquet dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m. EST, followed by a cocktail reception at 8 p.m. “Ron Hope, his wife Diane, and family have been long-time friends of the Garlits family, and we’re very pleased to have them participating in this year’s dinner," said Donna Garlits, chief financial officer and general manager of the Garlits Museum. "It will create a strong reminder to the attendees about the legacy of the cars raced by the contemporaries of those honored with their induction into the Hall of Fame.”

The car features an Austin Bantam roadster body shell, attached to the chassis; and the original supercharged, nitromethane-fueled Chrysler 392 engine, built by the late Don Green, the originator of the Rat Trap. “The original ‘Rat Trap’ was a very popular car, and the reproduction does the original great justice, and it runs as good as it looks,” said Don Garlits, president and curator of the museum.

After a year of traveling across the country, earning points at many shows, the best of the best of the ISCA Show Car Series made it to the Grand Finale. For 2016 the ISCA Championship Finals were held at the Chicago World of Wheels show, held at the Donald P Stephens Center in Rosemont IL. Having the Championship Finals in Chicago made it a show within a show, that made it special not only for all the show entries, as well as all of the spectators. The Class Champions were set up in the middle of the main hall to set up and strut their stuff for the ISCA Judges and the tens of thousands of spectators who came to the show all 3 days. After days of set up, cleaning, cleaning again and waiting for 3 days of judging, that can seem like an eternity, the Grand Champion was crowned . Congratulations goes out to Phil & Deb Becker of Dwight IL for taking home the Grand Champion Award at the Championship Finals.

ISCA Gran Phil & De

Congratulations to all of the class champions who were on display in Chicago as you are all winners too. Make plans now to see the 2017 Championship Finals at the Chicago World of Wheels in March of 2017. 12
