“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” “show cars, drivers, hot rods, customs, street machines, street rods, tuners ”

If you haven’t heard about it yet, check out the ROAD RUMBLINGS section this. For what you say? For Hot Rodding History! HOT ROD Magazine is turning 70 years old this year. They are throwing a party along with another 70 year old...IN-N-OUT Burger. Yes that hamburger chain that is all California also turs 70 this year. Based on early details of what’s planned, this could require a ROAD TRIP! Anybody interested?? Say what you want, the one publication that all of us have either followed since it started or grew up reading it, either straight from your mailbox each month, off the magazine rack or over at your friends house, has been HOT ROD Magazine. HOT ROD has shown us cool cars from all over the USA and beyond, featured the many different car and truck trends and craze’s that have happened since it started. Racing of all kinds, show cars, drivers, hot rods, customs, street machines, street rods, tuners and just about anything with wheels have been in between the covers of HOT ROD magazine.

HOT ROD has given us people like Tom Medley who gave us “Stroker McGurk”. Wally Parks was an early employee of HOT ROD magazine, and Wally started the NHRA and organized drag racing. Many different editors over many years and in my opinion a photojournalist that many strive to emulate, “your Old Dad” Gray Baskerville. Gray was all about hot rods, flip flops and driving his beloved ‘32 Roadster all the time and everywhere. Gray had a huge hand in getting 2 guys together to help the early street industry, in creating a company that made parts every hotrodder could use. A company called “PETE & JAKES”. Robert E Petersen, “Pete”, had the foresight to create HOT ROD Magazine. He started it, hired great people to work for and run the magazine, gave guidance and let the staff produce it each month. 70 years, 840 issues and no signs of slowing down at all! Yep...that road trip is looking pretty good to go say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

“the fun starts here”….

JOIN HOT ROD and IN-N-OUT Burger’s 70th Birthday with Drag Racing at Pomona! That’s right, in 1948, two Southern California icons, In-N-Out Burger and HOT ROD Magazine, opened for business within 25 miles of one another. In the decades since, the companies have something of a shared history – the same classic street rods and muscle cars from the pages of HOT ROD could often be found cruising at the nearest In-N-Out. Come join us in celebrating 70 years of burgers and burnouts on November 17th at the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, CA. It will be an all-day party at the drag strip with In-N-Out Burger Cookout Trailers, prizes, and one of the rarest track-days you’ll ever find as the hallowed lanes of Pomona will be open! For 70 years, In-N-Out Burger and HOT ROD have defined some of the core tenets of even today’s population of gear heads and burger fans. While we’ve been serving you the freshest hot rods and customs for our 70-year history, smiling In-N-Out staff have been serving the freshest and highest-quality burgers, fries, and shakes to loyal customers at over 325 locations. In-N-Out Burger was California’s first drive-thru restaurant, founded by Harry and Esther Snyder. “My grandparents would be so proud to see how much our In-N-Out family has grown,” Lynsi Snyder, president of In-N-Out, told us. “We’re huge car lovers, so there’s no better way for us to celebrate than with HOT ROD!”

Not only will there be nostalgia drag racing exhibitions, a look back at our own history with cover and feature cars coming to the shindig, and a show-n-shine with In-N-Out’s Special Picks and Editors’ Picks grabbing prizes, but we’ll host an open test-and-tune on Auto Club Raceway’s drag strip, a rare treat for hot rodders with usually only the NHRA running cars down track for Nationals races – yeah, you won’t want to miss out on this opportunity. Come run one of the most iconic tracks in drag racing history! On the way back to the pits, stop by one of In-N-Out’s Cookout Trailers for a freshly-made Double-Double. See you there! 6

Mid-October in the Mid-South is a great time to have a car show. Franklin KY showed that off in spades for the 1st Annual TIKI FEST Car Show. Hosted by the RELENTLESS CAR CLUB, the show was a fund raiser for SHRINERS Children’s Hospital. We tip our cap to all the RELENTLESS Members who came out and served as gracious hosts for a great turnout of cars, truck and motorcycles of every kind and style. As you can see by the cool shots here, some very cool rides came out to support this event. At the end of the day, after enjoying some great grub from the Wildfire BBQ & Grill, some getting lucky on the cool door prizes given out, in the end it was all about gearhead s enjoying a day with each other and all these cool car, trucks and bikes!

FOR SALE: 1940 Packard coupe. This is the last year of the freestanding headlights. It looks a lot like a ’40 Ford coupe except for the grill and hood. The car is original, very solid, in good shape. All of the chrome has been re-chromed, some still in paper wrap. All new tinted glass, as well as the original glass, a roll of upholstery material, but the seats and headliner are in nice shape, (door panels need some work. The dash has the instruments removed to re-wood grain, (I have vinyl wrap burled wood that I was going to use to cover the dash), but all of the instruments are in good original shape, wires are tagged and everything comes with the car. I also have paperwork and history that dates back to the late ‘60s. Going with my plan, I figured I’d have it back on the road with a few weeks work. Reality is, however, that I have no time and must get the house in shape to sell before April. If you are interested or know someone that might enjoy this fine car please have them give me a call, (256) 665-3345. (3-15-18)

FOR SALE: 1986 Mazda, RX7. This is a one owner car in nice shape but has been parked inside for about 8 years. It is all original with the original rotary engine and 5 speed manual transmission. There is an easy conversion kit made right here in Lacy Springs, that lets you install a LS engine if anyone wants to make a street rod daily driver out of it. I’ve seen this done and it looks like factory equipment. (256) 665-3345. (3-15-18)
