“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

Ramblings, Rumblings and Thoughts... Let’s roll and see where this weeks column goes…

Feedback from us to all of you, who put together car shows, cruisein’s and other gearhead type events. We receive a lot of flyer for events to use. Some are great and some are lacking some or a lot of info. If you are putting on an event and you want to have lots of gearheads and hot rodders show up, you have to tell them some basic info. You would be surprised how many flyers come to us lacking some of this info. We use what we get, but when we get calls or emails about an event, and we do, we can’t answer the questions and I am willing to bet that your event just lost a potential participant. Take a look at our website for the CAR SHOWS and CRUISE to see all the different flyers for idea’s. At a minimum you need to have somewhere on the flyer or the info you send us, Town / State, Address of event site, time of event, is it open or for a select group, cost. Basically use the WHO/WHAT/ WHERE/ WHEN and more process. More info is better than less. I am done with this...time for some THROTTLE THERAPY! Go out and drive your cool car, truck or motorcycle...FLOOR IT!

I want to give a shout out to all our new subscribers. When I say subscribers, these are the folks who have signed up to get the weekly issue of the Gearhead Gazzette Magazine delivered directly to their email box. We are glad and thank you for signing up and hope you enjoy riding along with us each week as we have hot rod style fun. Welcome! Thank you to our long time subscribers also. A lot of you have been with us from the very beginning when there weren’t a whole lot of you reading the Gearhead Gazzette. Through your sharing the issues and telling your friends about us, we have been able to grow each week, moth and year...THANK YOU! Thank you to all of you have given and continue to give us feedback. We appreciate it and we do listen. We have made some changes and looking at making some other changes. We make changes because it improves your reading the magazine. Our goal is for you to enjoy what we do around here. Keep the feedback coming.

“the fun starts here”….

Chevy Corvette ZR1 is the 2018 Indy 500 Pace Car That'll be one hell of a pace! You know it'll be an interesting Indianapolis 500 when the pace car has more horsepower than the racecars do‌..read that again! Chevrolet announced today that the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will handle pace car duties at the 2018 Indy 500, which will be run on May 27 this year. The Corvette (in its many iterations) comprises more than 10 percent of all Indy 500 pace cars. The 102nd running will see the 15th Corvette. Chevrolet itself has 29 pace-carshaped notches on its headboard, extending all the way back to 1948. Last year's pace car was a Corvette Grand Sport, and the last time a ZR1 led the pack was in 2012, with Guy Fieri behind the wheel. No, it was not renamed the Flavortown 500 that year. With 755 supercharged horsepower on tap, the Corvette ZR1 is actually more powerful than the current racers in IndyCar, which vary between 550 and 700 horsepower, depending on boost levels. The ZR1 pace car will use an eightspeed automatic transmission. Odds are the pace car won't be stretching its legs that much, but it would be a heck-tacle of a spectacle to see all 30-some-odd contenders ripping a parade lap at the ZR1's top speed of 212 mph. Here's to hoping. 6

One of the surprises of this year’s Detroit’s Auto Show, was the reveal of the last surviving 1968 Mustang that was actually used in the Bullitt movie. The car was displayed next to the new model, and was around for the public days. But in case you couldn’t make it to Detroit to see it, you’ll have another opportunity in Washington D.C. Thanks to the Historic Vehicle Association (HVA), the car will be put on display in a glass box on the Washington Mall. This is the big stretch of lawn in D.C. ringed by the Smithsonian museums and also home to landmarks such as the Washington Monument. The car is on display right now and will be there until April 23. This car is documented and we’ll keep the owners name to ourselves, as they DO NOT WANT TO SELL it. The car is in the Hendersonville TN Area. This Mustang isn’t the only classic car to get this treatment, though. HVA has displayed a number of cars in the same spot including one of the replica Ferraris used in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and the very first production 1984 Plymouth Voyager, widely accepted as the first minivan. Both of those cars, along with the Mustang are part of a month of classic cars on the Mall, and it wraps up next week with a wellpreserved 1918 Cadillac used by the U.S. Military in Europe near the end of World War I. Support the HVA by going to the HVA website at https:// www.historicvehicle.org/

It was a celebration of all things racing in the “Circle City” (Indianapolis IN) last December. It was the 30th edition of the PRI show. Racers from all venues and genres of racing came to the Indiana Conventions center, to be part of one of racings biggest events all year long. The 30th annual PRI Show featured more than 1,100 exhibiting companies, and tens of thousands of buyers from all 50 states and 70 countries, combed over more than 750,000 square feet to learn about the latest products, services, machinery, simulation and testing technologies, and trailers for motorsports.

"Thanks to new features and exhibits, and more than 45 conferences and seminars, the 2017 Performance Racing Industry Show was another great, memorable show,” said PRI General Manager Bill Miller. “It’s the place where the motorsports industry comes to do business." New for the 2017 PRI Trade Show, was a special Featured Products Showcase section, allowing exhibitors to highlight their 32

products and connect with buyers like never before. Additionally, new exhibit locations, an exclusive AJ Foyt exhibition, and dozens of conferences and seminars, among them the Race Track Business Conference and Advanced Engineering Technology Conference, made the PRI Show the premier place for racing professionals to network and conduct business face-to-face. "The PRI Show brings the entire motorsports industry together under one roof for the three biggest business days in racing," said Miller. "Exhibitors serving all types of auto racing rely on the PRI Show to connect with buyers and network with industry experts, and programs like the Featured Products Showcase continue to make the PRI Show the foremost trade show for the racing industry." Get ready for PRI 2018! Dec 6-8 are the dates and Indianapolis is the place. Head to www.performanceracing.com for all the show and registration info you need. 33

MAY 2018: MAY 3: LAS VEGAS NV: LS FEST WEST HOOVER DAM CRUISE: Our inaugural cruise went better than we could have hoped for and we had the chance to meet many of you face-to-face. On top of that, the cruise ended up being an amazing photo opportunity and the sounds of raucous LS exhaust notes bouncing off the canyon

walls is not one we will soon forget. If you missed it last year then we’ve got good news for you, LSX Magazine will be back at it again this year and we hope to see even more of you turn out. Just like last year, we will likely be pulling cars for features along the way. So, if you’ve got a ride that you think is magazine worthy, show up and you might just snag a spot in our pages. And, even if you don’t, it’s a great way to meet other LS- and LT-owners that are just as crazy about their ride as you are. We will gather at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway starting at 6:30 p.m., after which we will depart for the dam at 7 p.m. sharp. Our first leg will take us to the Hoover Dam Visitor Center which affords wonderful views of Lake Mead. After a lit-

tle mingling and photo ops, we’ll head into the dam itself. Last year we had the place basically to ourselves. Turns out, there’s nothing like hearing your exhaust crackle through the coves of the Hoover Dam. Once gathered at the dam, we’ll take a huge group photo and then part ways. Last year, we ended things around 8:30 p.m. just as the sun was setting. To register for the cruise, and to let us know you plan on attending. Head over to our quick registration form at https:// www.lsfest.com/lsx-magazine-sponsors-2nd-annual-hoover-dam-cruise/ which takes less than 30 seconds to fill out.

FOR SALE: 1940 Packard coupe. This is the last year of the freestanding headlights. It looks a lot like a ’40 Ford coupe except for the grill and hood. The car is original, very solid, in good shape. All of the chrome has been re-chromed, some still in paper wrap. All new tinted glass, as well as the original glass, a roll of upholstery material, but the seats and headliner are in nice shape, (door panels need some work. The dash has the instruments removed to re-wood grain, (I have vinyl wrap burled wood that I was going to use to cover the dash), but all of the instruments are in good original shape, wires are tagged and everything comes with the car. I also have paperwork and history that dates back to the late ‘60s. Going with my plan, I figured I’d have it back on the road with a few weeks work. Reality is, however, that I have no time and must get the house in shape to sell before April. If you are interested or know someone that might enjoy this fine car please have them give me a call, (256) 665-3345. (315-18)

FOR SALE: 1936 Dodge Coupe RARE. Color-red. Interior- tan leather. Mustang 2 front end. PS, PB, PW, EDL, TC. Chevy 350 engine with Transmission 700r. 18in wheels. Excellent condition. $42,000. Call- 615-419-6232 (3/28/18)

FOR SALE: 1986 Mazda, RX7. This is a one owner car in nice shape but has been parked inside for about 8 years. It is all original with the original rotary engine and 5 speed manual transmission. There is an easy conversion kit made right here in Lacy Springs, that lets you install a LS engine if anyone wants to make a street rod daily driver out of it. I’ve seen this done and it looks like factory equipment. (256) 665-3345. (3-15-18) 70
