Isn’t it great that we get to have all this fun this weekend and every weekend and yes everyday of the week. There is a cost for all that we enjoy in our great country. The cost paid is the Ultimate Price for men and women of our great Military. Memorial Day is the official day that we take time, or should, to remember all those valiant people who fought in wars and conflicts since the birth of our great country, and gave their lives to protect our freedoms. They went in where not everyone would go, and fought to keep us and our country a free place to live and do as we wish. While you are having all that fun this Memorial Day weekend, I would ask you to please take a moment on Monday May 28th, and say a prayers for all those brave Americans ...it’s the least we can do….

Welcome to the end of May 2018 gearheads. Didn’t see that coming did you! The end of May means that one of the greatest races in the world takes place….THE INDY 500! Held every Memorial Day weekend, it brings the world together to see some of the great race drivers and teams compete at the historic “Brickyard. No slouch either in the racing world takes place later the same day..The Coke 600 in Charlotte NC. While not as old as the INDY 500, this race has great and long history too. If you don’t want to watch any or all of that racing , there are any number of car shows or cruise in’s going on around the USA for you to head to and have fun at too. If none of that appeals to you for the holiday weekend, then break out the gill and put some grill marks on your favorite foods and enjoy!

They’re bolt-on carburetor replacements designed specifically for vehicles that came standard with a 2300 2BBL Holley carburetor, including the classic Mustangs, Fairlanes, Galaxies, Falcons, Comets, F100s, Javelins, Rebels, Thunderbirds, and Cougars of the ’60s and ’70s. The state motto on license plates/tags in Alabama says “It’s the Heart Of Dixie”. When you look on a map, you will see that Alabama does sit almost geographically in the middle of what is referred to as the Southeast USA region. This location plays an important role for gearheads, as some of the best cars in the Southeast and beyond, come out for the Birmingham World of Wheels show.

The show is held at the BirminghamJefferson Convention Center in the heart of downtown B’Ham. The convention center is easy to get to and that makes it easy to see all the really cool stuff is in side the convention center itself...all those cool cars, hot rods, trucks, motorcycles and more! All of this adds up to a great show, that if you attend for the first time, will surprise you. Depending on what entrance you 38

come in, there are 2 levels of the finest show cars, trucks and bikes anywhere. Some years back when we first took a chance on this show to check it out, we thought when we walked in the door on the lower level…”this isn’t very big?” Boy were we wrong! 2 levels filled from wall to wall with street rods, hot rods, muscle cars, classics, customs and more! The show is truly a family friendly event. Plenty of things to do for everyone in the whole family. Special guest appearances, activities for the kids, vendors of every kind and a whole lot more. One feature of this event is the competition for the Vaughn Early Memorial award. An entry has to make it into the Fabulous 5 to be a contender for the Vaugh Early Memorial Award. To be in contention for the Fab 5 alone, your entry has to be shown for the first time at the Birmingham World OF Wheels show. The Competition for 2018 was TUFFFF! After all the judging was done, Larry Griffey’s beautiful ‘54 Corvette took home the Vaugh Early Memorial Awrd for 2018.
