“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” You don’t have to spend a fortune to have gearhead fun

How much does it cost to have a cool ride? Hot rod...cool truck...muscle car or what you personally like.

to you that you don’t know? I VOTE do it for the fun. I have had shiny cars in the past and will no doubt have more in my future. Right now my coupe is in primer and not finished all the way and it is a ton of fun. Best part is I don’t have 2 wallets full of 100 dollar bills in it. I get almost as many looks and the shiny cars, but that’s because it sits right with a wicked stance and I have given it a cool hot rod look….my opinion.

During a recent conversation with some good friends at a car show, this subject kind of evolved from another discussion, about how much $$$ people choose to put into their ”toy”. Let me be real clear before some hate mail gets written...how much you choose to spend on your pride and joy is ok by me. We all know our wallets depth, and what you choose to do is fine by me. I dig looking at all those cool cars and trucks and bikes.

Recently on HOT RODS BY DEAN Instagram Page, they laid out how EASY it is to have a cool hot rod, for not a lot of money. They took a stock Model A coupe ( you can buy real reasonable), put together a new chassis with disc/drum, small block Ford, Auto Trans and the usual hot rod components on a chassis. Not flashy but functional. More paint than chrome. Then they took the stock body already painted, and bolted on the new chassis. No body mods, or changes, Used the original gas tank too. They didn't spend 40 or 50 thousand or more to do this. Shop around and you can do the same thing and then you are having hot rod fun.

The other side of the coin is, how much do you really need to spend to have “hot rod” fun. In this case “hot Rod” is used to cover all forms of motorsports. When I hear younger and in many cases, older gearheads talk about it costing too much $$ to have a cool ride, it bothers me. You don’t have to spend a fortune to have gearhead fun. You really don’t. Yes a lot of us want the shiny paint, cool wheels thumpin’ motor killer chrome ride. It takes time to get there. Whether you are building it or having it built, it takes time. The length of time is directly related to the wallet.

The question is ...do you have to or do you want to spend a lot of money to have gearhead fun. The answer is NO, you DO NOT HAVE TO. You can ...but why?

There is an alternative. Drive the ride while you build it. Drive one in primer. Start out smaller and cheaper. The question is, are you doing this to have fun or to try and impress the guy or girl next 5

“the fun starts here”….

Judging from the teaser image, the massive monster truck sports a wide, imposing stance, with turn signals built into its side mirrors, and foglights nearly as big as its headlights.

Hot Rodders, Drag Racers and gearheads are truck people for the most part. Most of us have a truck of some sort to haul parts in or we borrow a friends. Getting our rides and race cars to the track or show scene, sometimes creates the need for something bigger than a 1/2 ton short bed truck. Pulling a bigger trailer means you need more truck.

“The Silverado 4500HD/5500HD trucks are the flagship of our full-line commercial truck portfolio and we’ve designed them to be among the best in the industry in maneuverability, serviceability, visibility, quietness and comfort, diesel fuel economy, and more,” said Ed Peper, General Motors Fleet VP, in a statement. “At GM Fleet, we are determined to deliver on our three pillars: Great Products, Innovative Business Solutions and an Exceptional Customer Experience, and I’m confident that with these new trucks, we’ll exceed the expectations of not only our fleet customers, but the drivers and upfitters as well.” Chevrolet says the trucks will be powered by Duramax diesel engines and Allison transmissions. The new trucks will be offered with a suite of driver tech goodies such as OnStar, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and a number of telematics offerings.

Move over SUPER DUTY—big news is coming out of Indiana this March. BowTie brass have confirmed that the 2019

More details and technical specifications will be disclosed at the show. The Class 4 and 5 chassis cab trucks should go into production next winter.

Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD will debut at The Work Truck Show 2018 in Indianapolis. The all-new Silverado medium-duty trucks will be offered in regular and crew cab versions with 2WD and 4WD capability in a range of GVWRs and wheelbas-

American Tri-Five To Invade Grand National Roadster Show Each year, there is a “small,” must-attend event on the West Coast – The Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS). Okay, maybe it’s not so small, since it’s known as the Granddaddy of them all. This three-day event hosts more than a thousand of the hottest custom cars from around the nation, and is attended by over 40,000 hardcore automotive enthusiasts. This year, Danchuk and the American Tri-Five Association (ATFA) will be invading the GNRS, and taking over an area dedicated only to Tri-Fives. Both entities invite you to join them at one of the oldest and longest running indoor car shows in the world. If you do, you’ll be privy to a great time and atmosphere, while hanging out with likeminded enthusiasts. If you plan to join in the Tri-Five festivities, there are some things of which you need to be aware. If you want to be part of the American Tri-Five grouping, you must be bringing a ’55 – ’57 Chevy, park in the outdoor, specified area, and follow all GNRS rules. About The GNRS Although the GNRS event is regulated under the International Show Car Association (ISCA) rules, the Tri-Five gathering will have it’s own awards program. You’ll find everything from custom cars to those that have received complete restorations. At the overall show, you’ll find race cars, trucks, hot rods, muscle cars, and even street machines. Unlike many other car shows, there are even categories for special interest items like tricycles, custom wagons, and pedal cars. That means there really is something for everyone. So, if you want to find out more, check out the American Tri-Five Website at https:// www.americantrifive.com/ to get your registration forms, questions answered, and to find out everything happening in the world of Tri-Five Chevys. 7

We have to believe that almost every gearhead out there has heard of POR15 products and we bet a whole lot of you have used them too. Some good stuff that POR-15. Not only are their products great, they have some really cool folks running and working at the company too. For the past 3 years they have hosted and OPEN HOUSE & CAR SHOW at their Riverdale NJ location. 2017 made it 4 years in a row.

16

It’s a successful formula. Open up the doors to the factory so people can see how you make all those cool products. Invite hot rodders and gearheads to come out with their cool rides. Throw in some entertainment and good food and enjoy all that New Jersey Sunshine in October. We have to say our hats off to the POR15 Team for hosting this cool event. Check out some of the cool vehicles that came out to spend the day with the POR -15 team.
