“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

…”Did you have fun in the first half of the year?” 186…

everyday of the week. Therefore that weekend number takes on more importance. Another big deal affecting the weekend number is the fact that a lot of you are still working and punching a clock, so you lose the Mon-Friday time frame to have fun during the day.

What’s that you ask? It’s how many days in 2017 are behind us now as of this issue of the Gearhead Gazzette. Put a check in the box on the first half of the year as it is history now. Yea’ it flew by...each year seems to disappear faster and faster.

For most of us the Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas weekend are taken up by family fun (family first gang!) Your down to 24 weekends now. Factor in spouse or significant other time on weekends, kids and grandkids soccer, baseball, etc. and well….you get the picture..26 is not what you have to enjoy your cool ride.

The question to be answered is…”Did you have fun in the first half of the year?” Only you can answer that question and be honest with yourself. Learn from what you did or did not do, and change some things and make the remaining 179 all great days for yourself, as only you can make that happen.

Time is precious, moves fast and shorter than we think and realize. Have fun with whatever you do! If you are not having fun...stop and change it up and make it fun.

26… New number...same question...what’s that you ask? The number of weekends you have left to enjoy your cool car in 2017. Reality being what it is, most of us do not drive our cool rides

Drive your cool car whenever you can...that’s why we have them...right? 5

Hot Rod Hullabaloo Coming Soon! Shelby's Way and our 11th Annual Hot Rod Hullabaloo is just around the corner on September 2nd, Saturday of Labor Day weekend. This year we are expecting over 600 custom cars and trucks and hopefully we'll see over 2000 people from Lexington, Central Kentucky and beyond. The entire block of Contract Street will be closed off with help from our local government and police so we can raise needed funds and awareness to Shelby's Way. Again this year we will have our World Famous Downhill Hoodlum Race and Hot Wheels Drag Race (for kids 12 and under). The day will be filled with hot rods, custom cars and trucks and rockabilly music. Food vendors will be on hand serving the crowd BBQ and Mexican Cuisine along with drinks, ice cream and frozen ice snow cones. We are also raffling off a Vintage 50's Style Tear Drop Trailer and other goodies at the end of the day! So, be sure and buy your tickets that day or you can go online at www.shelbysway.com and follow the link to purchase now. I have attached the new Hot Rod Hullabaloo video to inspire and excite folks to come. Please share it on your social media to help spread the word. Hope to See Ya There! Please make sure and catch me so I can say Hi and Welcome!

Drag racers roar on Woodward

In addition to drag racing, those who attend will get to check out the 840horsepower 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and “drive” it on a drag racing simulation, where they can compete against other drivers. And Dodge Thrill Rides will put them in the 707horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and Charger SRT Hellcat and the 645 -horsepower Dodge Viper. They won’t get to drive the vehicles, but they will get to ride with a driver.

Avenue at Roadkill Nights Returns Legal street drag racing returns to Woodward Avenue in August. Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge will be back in Pontiac on Aug. 12, moving up a full week ahead of the Woodward Dream Cruise to launch the region’s ultimate celebration of car culture. This will be the event’s third year, but its second on Woodward at the M1 Concourse.

A car show and festival are also planned, with family activities, including inflatable slides, an obstacle course, rock climbing walls, face painting, live music and entertainment and food trucks.

Last year's event drew hundreds of amateur drag racers and as many as 30,000 spectators from across the country to the first-ever legal drag racing event on Woodward featuring muscle cars as well as older and newer model trucks and sports cars.

This year’s events will also include a celebrity showdown with David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan, the cohosts of the online “Roadkill” series, drag racing stars Leah Pritchett and Matt Hagan, and Mike Musto of "The House of Muscle” online show.

Those who came out were thrilled about the chance to race or watch racing even as some participants complained about organizational challenges and registration delays Enthusiasts will have plenty to get excited about this year.

Roadkill Nights is sponsored by Dodge and is an event from TEN: The Enthusiast Network, which includes Motor Trend and Automobile. The Aug. 12 event will be open 11 a.m.11 p.m., with drag racing and Dodge Thrill Rides from 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. General admission is $10 per person or $5 per person for Pontiac residents ($5 price available on-site only).
