HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all the Gearhead Dad’s out there!!

Patience is probably a dads biggest asset/virtue. When we tried to help and we took a tool and proceeded to help fix( name what you did, sand a good paint job, hammer a panel, loosen bolts and not tell dad), Dad would just give us a look, you know the look, but tell us what we did wrong and show us how to fix and repair what we did that didn’t need doing...LOL

It’s Dad’s day this coming Sunday, the one day a year that we celebrate the guy who each family looks up to, to be there for them. For us gearheads, dad’s play a big part in our early gearhead years, as we want to get out and help him do stuff in the garage/ shop (real deal pic below).

My dad was that way. He is the And why wouldn't we! He has all one who took the time to show those cool tools and machines me how to do things. He is a out there that make noise and do heckuva mechanic and I learned things...fascinating things. so much from him. When I thought I knew it all and waded into a project, he let me, but when I finally asked for help, he showed me how to do the job right. He never complained...just helped me. My dad is 92 now and I still ask him how to do things….I am lucky!

His awareness of the industry vaulted him into positions like President of SEMA from 1971 to 1974, during a period when the government crackdown on vehicle emissions threatened to kill the aftermarket automotive industry. He guided the organization and his business through the tough times ensuring the hobby would survive for automotive enthusiasts.

The Loss of another Hot Rod Hero!

With the recent passing of Vic Edelbrock Jr., hot rodding has lost another one of our “hot rod hero’s”.

Vic not only served as president of SEMA, he was on the board of directors from 1967 to 1989. He was an avid flyer and automotive racer, often driving at the Monterey Historic Automobile Races at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. Vic was 80 years old. At the time of his passing. R.I.P. Vic….Godspeed. Vic Edelbrock Jr. took over as President and CEO of the company that his father started upon his untimely death in 1962. Only 26 years old, the younger Edelbrock held both of those positions until 2010 when he stepped down as President but remained as chairman of the board of directors until his passing. Taking over the company with just ten employees, Vic Jr., grew the company into a major brand in the aftermarket automotive industry.

JUNE 2017: JUNE 15-18: INDIANAPOLIS IN: 2017 BRICKYARD VINTAGE RACING INVITATIONAL: World-class vintage racing returns for a fourth time to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for SVRA’s Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational. Vintage race cars will take center stage on the road course during the weekend, offering drivers and the fans the widest variety of motor racing available anywhere. The Indy Legends ProAm

Charity race returns, pairing 33 veteran Indy 500 drivers with amateur racing partners driving Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs in a 45-minute race on the IMS road course. Since debuting in 2014, the Indy Legends ProAm Charity race has raised over $100,000 for local charities. The June 16 – 18 Indy Legends Oval Race Car Exhibition & Concours will offer three exhibition runs on the 2.5-mile oval for pre-war Indy cars as well as roadsters and rear engine racers of pre-1970 vintage. The cars will run together in a pure exhibition, managed-speed format once on Saturday and twice Sunday. All oval track entries received by April 15th will be provided garage space in the iconic IMS Garage Area. The oval exhibition cars are automatically entered in an “Indy Legends Race Car Concours” show for three trophies: the A.J. Watson Trophy, Sir Jack Brabham Trophy and the Donald Davidson People’s Choice Trophy. The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli will be racing as a part of this weekend. This is the first time that the Trans-Am cars have raced at IMS, and is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The Mazda MX-5 Cup is also a new addition to this weekend of road racing. The MX-5 Cup series is entering its 12th season of action and has grown to be a premier sports car series. Saturday night’s driver and crew party under the stars includes a concert by The Guess Who, followed by a spectacular fireworks.
