“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” “have fun with whatever you do everyday” We’ve got a short week this week to get this issue together and ready to get sent out and posted for you to check out and read. Running tight on time as I write this as we were in Detroit last weekend for the 65th Autorama.
A friend had come in to visit me and said, “Jim always remember, you don’t control when you are born and you don’t control when you die, so you better have fun inbetween.” Some would liken that to the dot-dash-dot analogy...and it is.
I had a great time in Detroit last weekend and looking forward to heading to Chicago for the World of Wheels show there this coming weekend. As you open this up and read it, the Silverado is rolling north!
But the words rang loud and clear for me….HAVE FUN WITH WHAT YOU DO EVERYDAY! I admit it...I am a hot rod junkie. I love and enjoy going to these shows and cruises. The more the merry as far as I am concerned. Reality says I cant do all that I want, but I am trying.
I get asked a lot, about why I travel like I do to all these different shows in different parts of the country.
The other benefit I get out of packing my day full of gearhead fun, is the people I meet and get to catch up with at all the events I attend.
Bottom line...I have lots of fun! The best reason in the world to do anything...right? I think so. Like other folks, some years back I had a health scare and spent time in the hospital. When you lay in that bed and cant sleep (who can being jabbed and poked all night) it lets you think….and I did and do.
For me...that is what is the most fun...all of you! Make you day fun too!

‘AutoCross for Kids’ and Goodguys Rod and Custom Association Join with the Austin Hatcher Foundation to impact the lives of children with cancer. (Pleasanton, CA) – Goodguys Rod and Custom Association and The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer have partnered again in 2017 to raise funds and awareness for the Foundation’s mission to erase the effects of pediatric cancer for patients, survivors and their families. The partnership will provide the Foundation with opportunities to educate both children and adults about healthy lifestyles that prevent cancer, as well as provide much-needed therapies, in a variety of cities throughout the United States. This year, the Austin Hatcher Foundation is proudly commemorating its 10 year anniversary. During the first decade, they have provided services to approximately 70,000 children and their family members across 28 states and 38 hospitals. Goodguys Rod and Custom Association, the Pleasanton, Calif.-based producer of some of world’s most dynamic automotive events for more than three decades, will work in conjunction with the Foundation at several Goodguys shows during 2017. Association members and show attendees will have opportunities to contribute to the effort through donations, donating upon purchase at the Goodguys merchandise locations and participation in the “AutoCross for Kids”, as well as through volunteering for some of the

The AutoCross for Kids will offer Goodguys car show attendees opportunities at selected shows a chance to ride with Pro AutoCross competitors on a specially-prepared closed performance AutoCross course in exchange for a specified donation to the Austin Hatcher Foundation. The AutoCross for Kids promotion will be held on Fridays and Sundays at select events. “We are overwhelmed at the support Goodguys demonstrated in 2016 and continues to provide the foundation,” Austin Hatcher Foundation President Amy Jo Osborn said. “They have offered up these amazing events again in 2017, and continue to look for new ways to help. Goodguys is a very special kind of family. And it is a family that has helped us truly build a foundation for the future. The support that the Austin Hatcher Foundation receives through the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association has been and will continue to be integral to the success of the Foundation.” “Goodguys events are family events,” said Marc Meadors, President, Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. “The hot rod/car community is a huge family and bringing the Austin Hatcher Foundation into the fold is a win-win for everyone. We had a successful year last with this program and hope to do great things for them this year through the AutoCross for Kids promotion in raising and awareness and funds in the fight against pediatric cancer. Since the Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary, it is more important than ever to support their mission.” The partnership will kick off at the season opening Goodguys 8th Spring Nationals, March 10-12 at WestWorld of

Story & Photo’s by Jimmy B
12 years ago, John Buck and his team at the Grand National Roadster Show, came up with an idea to enhance the GNRS weekend. Why not have a car show outside the buildings while the GNRS show is going on inside the building?
As they say...the rest is history. This years GRAND DADDY DRIVE-IN was the 12th edition of that great idea. Pre-72 vehicle owners are invited to register and show their cool rides on both Saturday and Sunday during the GNRS show. There is a registration fee, but when you break it down, the cost is way 18
less that paying for 2 entries and parking for the GNRS. Plus you get to drive your cool car or truck in and park right in the middle of the whole show.
Saturday is the bigger of the 2 days, of the Grand Daddy Drive –in from a participation level, as almost 1000 cool rides show up. Hot Rods, muscle cars, street rods, customs, rat rods and more are on display for the whole day.
Think about it‌.a 1000 car, car show...how col is that plus the rest of the Grand National Roadster Show experience too! 19
One of the most fun area’s of the Grand Daddy Drive-In is over next to and around the Suede & Chrome building. There definitely is a party atmosphere going on. Families are out , the grills are going, and great tunes coming off the radio’s.
Yes… as you can see here, Good Times were definitely had at the Grand Daddy Drive-In this year. Perfect weather...great people, cool cars and a whole lot more! We are already looking forward to next year. Make your plans now to be at the Grand Daddy Drive-In….we will be. 20
