“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”
“using our brains instead of our right foot…” Got a pretty important topic to touch on this week. Appropriate timing too, as the weather is warming up and more events are happening, and more gearheads are getting out with their cool cars.
police is important with an event this size (1000 plus). The Franklin Police have been nothing but supportive of the cruise, but they have a job to do also. They need to keep everyone safe.
Elsewhere in this issue is an important notice for the folks that attend the CARS & COFFEE Saturday Morning Cruise-In, located in Franklin TN (Middle TN Area, our home area).
The crowds that line the street where the cars exit have become an issue. When asked to cooperate with the police, well it has not gone well...we’ll leave it at that. Of course the displays of acceleration that sometimes happens, only encourages more “less than stellar” behav-
The folks that coordinate the event, have put out a call for help for this coming Saturday’s “EXOTIC SATURDAY” Cruise. They anticipate with 70 degree temps and sunny skies that the cruise will be PACKED. That’s a great thing!
ior. This is the problem! The police are only going to put up with so much before they pull the plug. It’s happened before to other cruises. You may know of one yourself.
The part they need help with, is the leaving part. They are asking for all the gearheads that attend the cruise for some help in controlling getting out of the cruise. They are doing this to SAVE THE CRUISE! Read that again!
I like my hot rod fun as much as the next gearhead, but using our brains instead of our right foot is important too. It’s decision time in Franklin TN. Help out by following the exit plan, or gamble and possibly lose the cruise.
The success of the cruise may be it’s own undoing. I am not playing Chicken Little and saying the sky is falling, but when you read the notice the cruise has put out, it gets me worried. Cooperation with local
I VOTE EXIT PLAN!

Road Rumblings…. “Shomad” Shines in Pleasanton! Chevy Nomad Wagon Wins Goodguys Custom of the Year Award Pleasanton, CA - Ron Maier’s breathtaking 1957 Chevy Nomad station wagon “Shomad” was crowned Goodguys 2017 Street Rod Headquarters Custom of the Year yesterday in Pleasanton, CA. . A coach built ’57 Nomad by Oregon’s A & M Deluxe Customs, it was the first Goodguys Top 12 award for both owner and builder. A project that began the year of global financial meltdown and built nearly from scratch, the Shomad incorporates restyled lines, big power and plenty of bling. After hanging onto his ’57 Chevy Nomad for 30 years, owner Ron Maier brought his aging 2-door wagon to A&M Deluxe Customs for a full custom build. Even with a basic concept in Ron’s head, it still took eight years for Aaron Atnip, Mark Spurlock, and their team to craft together this attentiongrabbing, head-turning Tri-Five. “Ron wanted a brand new chassis, independent rear suspension, an LS Motor or big block Chevy engine, a one-piece hatch in the back and four bucket seats with the console down the middle. He also wanted the roof of the car chopped a little bit. 6
Then he was open to suggestions from us,” said Atnip. At the start of the project, the wagon was in poor shape and needed almost everything – starting with an Art Morrison chassis that was customized for the project, to new custom-shaped sheet metal, a fresh motor and tranny, and a complete overhaul of the interior. A&M Deluxe Customs is known for the custom metal work and the Shomad is a fine example of their skills and creativity. The deluxe wagon features a lot of one-offs, custom panels, and metal work. The front of the hood was handmade and incorporates a hand-formed hood scoop that feeds air to the LS7 Corvette motor. The grille looks similar to factory but was widened and had the bullets removed. The front and rear wheel arches are also unique and were raised a couple of inches to match the proportions after the top of the Nomad was chopped 2 inches. Subsequently, years of massaging and perfecting the body were done before it .

was painted with House of Kolor custom mixed gold and a contrasting pearl white top. What a color combo! Nestled between the custom sheet metal fenders is an LS7 427 c.i. engine with a 4L80E transmission for effortless cruises. The engine by is literally a work of art featuring custom valve covers, a smoothed block, and the handmade air intake. Stainless 3-inch tubing carries the exhaust all the way to the rear bumper – a detail not originally available with the ’57 Nomad. The original dashboard, featuring a unique stainless steel checkerboard pattern, was used but two gauges were added making it look close to a factory piece. The same stainless steel checkerboard material was used for the sill plates, center console, on the doors, and accents throughout the cabin. The beautiful one-off instruments – fabricated
by CON2R – also feature the stainless steel checkerboard with Shomad lettering. Starting with seats pulled from a 2000 Monte Carlo, A&M Deluxe Customs came up with the interior design concept and had Gabe’s Custom Interior in San Bernardino stitch the custom leatherwork. The natural fiber Sisal carpet that flows throughout the cabin blends perfectly with the leather interior. With the Goodguys 2017 Street Rod Headquarters Custom of the Year award secured, Ron Maier and the A & M Deluxe Customs team will head to Scottsdale in November for the Goodguys 2017 season-ending Southwest Nationals where it will share the spotlight with the season’s other Goodguys Top 12 award winners

Story & Photos by Jimmy B
Nashville Tennessee is known as Music City USA around the world. Great music comes out of the recording studio’s the city is long known for. Every spring for the past 11 years, there are sweet sounds coming from LP Field (Home of the NFL Tennessee Titans), along the Cumberland River. The sounds of horsepower from over 2000 hot rods, customs, cool trucks and muscle car play a sweet tune along the river bank all weekend long.
New for the 11th edition of this great event by GOODGUYS, was the addition of the HOT ROD OF THE YEAR competition. Having been held at the 18
GOODGUYS Indianapolis area events over the past years, no one knew what to expect. Let’s just say that the HROTY event had MORE en tries that ever before! This fun filled hot rod style weekend actually began on Wednesday afternoon/ evening for early bird arrivals. Greening Automotive Company had their doors to the shop open for all gearheads in town early, to come by and check out the latest builds.
Off party. Steve Tracy and his team opened their shop to over 400 hot rodders who stopped in to see the ADVANCED PLATING operations in action. Oh yea.. The BBQ meal and all the fixin’s were great also! Live music, new car debuts and more were just some of the highlights for those that came out for the party. All weekend long, LP Field was a sea of color, chrome and horsepower! From the specialty parking area's, the swap meet, all those vendors set up...whew a lot to see and do! The Cacklefest each day by Ron & Brian Hope’s RAT TRAP AA/FA and Jeff Sanborns BRUISER Altered, woke anyone napping up right away and even had some eyes watering!
Thursday saw a lot of “GOODGUYS & GOODGALS” arriving and checking in at LP for the weekend. Later in the afternoon and evening, it was time to head over to ADVANCED PLATING, which is a short drive from LP FIELD for the Thursday Kick 19
Add in the Goodguys Autocross action and if anyone didn't have fun, it’s because they didn't come to the big show in town! Goodguys is going back to Nashville for the 12th Nashville Nationals on the 3rd weekend in May this year. Make your plans to be part of the hot rod fun! 20
Goodguys Top 12 award) set out Friday, May 13th for a 100mile reliability run through the back country of Tennessee, then made 1/8th mile sprints down Nashville’s Music City Raceway before returning back to Nissan Stadium – home of the Goodguys 11th Nashville Nationals. George’s roadster not only completed the circuit in fine fashion, his dragstrip burnout and 1/8th mile run captured the spirit of this award. The car runs strong and looks fantastic, a testament to Ben York’s vision and craftsmanship. The mighty Model A roadster features masterful metal shaping with a reworked cowl, rolled firewall, DuVall windshield and a handmade Pines Winterfront grille behind E & J headlights. The hot rod’s heartbeat is a supercharged flathead Ford Ardun OHV conversion by H&H Flatheads. It’s as potent (375hp) as it is pretty, polished to the nines by Sherm’s Plating in Sacramento. Inside the driver’s compartment is an eraappropriate brown leather interior by Dave Putnam. Handling and stance are spot on with a dropped and drilled front axle and buggy spring rear end while the rod rolls on black steel wheels and Coker Tire Firestone bias ply tires.

Brian George and Ben York of Northern California’s Roseville Rod & Custom have teamed to build several top tier street rods over a span of several years. Their latest venture, a dark blue ‘50s style hi-boy roadster took home Goodguys 2016 Tank’s Inc. Hot Rod of the Year last weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. Two years ago, they set out with a plan to build a hot rod hi-boy for the express purpose of competing for Hot Rod of the Year. “We built this car specifically with this award in mind. We wanted a car that honored ‘50s and ‘60s hot rodding as well as a car that paid tribute to the dry lakes roadsters of that era,” George said after winning on Sunday. Taking the Hot Rod of the Year crown back to Northern California was no easy task. A loaded field of over 42 entries (the largest field ever for this specific

APR 2017: APR 7-8: AUSTIN TX: 16TH ANNUAL LONE STAR ROUND UP: When it's Round Up time in Texas – hot rods and custom cars gather here from every corner of the country to create something special. Since its beginning in 2002, the Lonestar Round Up has grown from a humble one-day outdoor car show hosted at an old football stadium
to a sprawling weekend-long celebration of hot rods and custom cars for the people who build them, drive them, and just can't get enough of the music, art, history and creativity inspired by and created around them. The very best in live music, a giant swap meet, vendors, and tons of traditional hot rods and custom cars from across the country take over the spacious grounds of the Travis County Expo Center on Friday and Saturday, not to mention the BBQs, open house parties, and cruise nights spread out all around Austin that the Round Up has become famous for. Its a unique home-grown experience, and one we hope you will join us for and share with others. Thanks for your ongoing support of the Lonestar Round Up, and we

MIDDLE TENNESSEE GEARHEADS—PLEASE TAKE NOTE DON’T LOSE A GREAT CRUISE-IN to Stupidity! If you attend the CARS & COFFEE Saturday Morning Cruise-in’s, Please help out! We need your HELP! We are going to try something new so please get the word out. As many of you have seen we are having a huge safety issue with people gathering along Cool Springs Blvd and in the median watching drive outs. The Police have tried in the past to stop this but the crowds have become nasty at times about leaving or moving and it is basically overwhelming to control with the limited amount of Police resources available. We would like to try something new to help prevent someone getting hurt which would shut our event down. We created a multi-point exit map to help get everyone go in the direction they need to get while avoiding the troublesome McDonalds Cool Springs Blvd area. When exiting the theater please DO NOT USE the exits marked with a red X and try to avoid exiting past the McDonalds on Cool Springs Blvd. We would like everyone to exit on the far end of the lot using the 3 exit points depending on the direction you need to go. We are hoping this will lessen the folks congregating at one exit and hopefully not at all. This may not be a perfect solution but we have to try something to help the police and to keep everyone safe. Please help your friends become aware
