“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” Have you priced a 3 day trip for 2 to Disneyworld lately?
Doing a quick re-cap, 2 issues ago I talked about the cost of car shows and the many things gearheads deal with these days, when they attend one. Whether a one day show or more likely a multi-day event, there are cost to having fun.
charity work through the year and it adds up. One of the bigger costs is insurance for the event itself. Hard to rent a location without it in todays society who likes to SUE someone right away. Rental of the venue may factor in too.
Take a multi-day event and multiple those costs. Venue rental, insurance costs, paying local police and EMT coverage costs $$...BIG $$$. They have workers behind the scene who get paid also. There ae many other costs that factor into this too.
We as show participants and even as spectators, grumble and complain about the cost of going to some events. For the show producers and promoters, they too have a huge cost factor to deal with for their events. Participants think that the show producers are carrying bags full of money to the bank for an event. The event promoters or group running the show, ARE IN IT TO MAKE $$. They don’t do it to lose money so we can all have a good time. They have to make a profit to able to put on more shows.
The bottom line to all this is, our hobby, sport, passion or whatever you call it, cost s us $$ to have fun. Even if we only pump gas into the tank costs money. Having fun as a gearhead costs money. Have you priced a 3 day trip for 2 to Disneyworld lately? Based on a quick check as I write this, Disneyworld is $113.00 a day for an adult, plus hotel. You cant see it all in 1 day. Magic Kingdom, and EPCOT are 2 day minimum so that would be $452 for 2 adults., plus 2 nights hotel. Yea...some discount packages are out there to cut cost, but going to a 3 day car event, while not cheap, is still a good deal.
Local 1 day shows have expenses that they have to cover. Generally 98% of the help to put on the show is done by volunteers. Still there are awards to buy, as many people want a trophy. Dash plaques are given out, miscellaneous office supplies, flyer printing, door prizes and other items to make the show happen have costs attached to them, Add in making some type of profit for the cause the show is for or for the club do use in
Life’s short...go have some fun..

Top Five Most Expensive States for Auto Insurance Florida—Florida is a no-fault state. There is mandatory $10,000 PIP Personal Injury Protection coverage accounting for one-fourth of the insurance premiums there. Hurricanes and tropical storms necessitate increased comprehensive coverage and with the most recent hurricane these rates are expected to continue to climb. Florida is second in the nation for uninsured drivers on the road at 24 percent, and there is more car insurance fraud than any other state with con men attempting to take advantage of no-fault laws. The city of Miami tops the charts for Florida with premiums for a salesperson with a speeding ticket, a not-at-fault collision and business use insurance at $4,050. West Palm Beach, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale are right behind. Louisiana—Natural disasters, overly generous claim settlements, some of the worst maintained roads in the country and the ability to directly sue insurance companies contribute to Louisiana’s high rates. Even Geico premiums are double that in other states. Add distracted driving and 7 percent more collisions, the insurance companies have raised rates from 4 to 16 percent per year for the past two years. Louisiana's highest premium city is New Orleans with premiums for a salesperson with a speeding ticket, a not-at-fault collision and business use insurance at $3,350. Michigan—Depending on the survey, Michigan has among the highest insurance in the country. The state has the most comprehensive no-fault insurance system, PIP has unlimited lifetime medical benefits, mandatory property protection insurance, and 21 percent of drivers are uninsured. Even a driver with a great record will pay thousands of dollars a year in many Detroit area suburbs. Michigan tops the list, with the highest insurance premiums in Detroit, for a salesperson with a speeding ticket, a not-at-fault collision and business use insurance at $4,388. New Jersey—high accident rates, PIP up to $250,000, medical fraud and population density are all factors contributing to the Garden State ranking in the top five most expensive states. Unfortunately, PIP fraud has shot up which raises the cost of insurance for everyone in this state. Newark comes in at $3,474 for a salesperson with a speeding ticket, a not-at-fault collision and business use insurance. New York—The Empire State is a no-fault state. No-fault doesn't mean that no one is found at fault for an accident, but rather that someone who is injured in an accident would first look to his or her own insurance coverage to pay for expenses. If PIP limits are exceeded, then the at-fault driver's liability coverage can kick in. One of the main contributions to New York's higher rates is the traffic density. With Brooklyn having a population density of 35,369 people per square mile the number of vehicles on the road is large in comparison to other cities. New York City premiums come in at a high of $3,174 for a salesperson with a speeding ticket, a not-at-fault collision and business use insurance. 6
People are very familiar with PRI’s older and bigger brother, the SEMA show in Las Vegas, yet fewer are familiar with the industry’s hardcore performance based show. Held over three days, The PRI show has traditionally been from Thursday through Saturday to reach the maximum number of attendees, the show is billed as the “Epicenter of New Racing Technology.” The biggest question we always get is; “How is the PRI Show different than the SEMA Show?” That’s a great question! The focus is solely on performance and racing. No under car lighting, bedazzled engine parts, or bling-bling gadgets. It’s all about the speed and muscle! The event organizers are predicting over 1,100 exhibiting companies with over 3,300 booth which will be displaying more new racing products than anywhere else on the planet this year. The companies attending are from more than 70 countries and all 50 states. The Indianapolis-based show is open to buyer and media members to scour the new products and new technology that will be finding their way to the race tracks next year. While we have nothing against fuzzy dice and chrome hubcaps, Hot Rods were based on performance in the beginning and still play a large roll in our hobby. No one saw one belly tanker at the SEMA trade show earlier this month. The chances of spotting a streamliner or belly tanker at the PRI show is far greater, and we would be disappointed if there were not five or more of each. Attendees to the show are pre-qualified. Admission is complimentary, but all attendees must all prove they own, manage or are employed by a racing business. Buyers for tens of thousands of racing retail stores, warehouse distribution centers, professional race engine builders, race car production companies, are making 2018 inventory decisions in each exhibit. They represent the all-important distribution pipeline for racing products. In the US alone, there are more than 400,000 racers, the vast majority of whom are at the grassroots level, purchasing products from their local race store or race engine builder.
Every type of racing discipline featured under one roof: drag racing, sprint cars, stock cars, road racing, modifieds, dirt late models, karting, off-road racing, tractor pulling, open wheel, muscle car, performance marine, and more. There are more than 100 manufacturers on “Machinery Row” displaying cutting-edge machining equipment and providing hands-on demonstrations. The PRI “Race Industry Week” will feature more than 45 conferences, seminars, and social gatherings. at the Indiana convention center. There will be some exclusive events, including a PRI Happy Hour, Grand Opening Breakfast, Student Breakfast/Career Day, International Motorsports Trade Seminar, Advanced Engineering Technology Conference 7

Story & Photo’s by Jimmy B
time we went the B’Ham show, we thought that very thing…small show.
While the Southeast part of the USA generally does not get super cold or as cold at the northern states do, winter does provide a cooling off and a chill in the air. In the early part of February each year, down in the “Heart of Dixie” as it’s also known, Birmingham Alabama experiences a late winter thaw and a warm up. We liken this weather effect is because of the Birmingham World of Wheels show being held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center in downtown Birmingham. All those cool cars really heat up B’Ham for the 2nd weekend in February.
After you walk thru BOTH levels of the show, you do realize that this is a good sized show. Lot’s of floor space and it’s filled with so many great entries...cars, trucks, hot rods, motorcycles and a lot more.
We consider this show a fooler or sleeper. We say that as if you have never been to this ISCA show, when you walk in your first impression is that this is a small show. ISCA has different levels and sizes of shows across the USA. The first
The quality level of the participants entries at this show is very high. We point this out because we have been to other ISCA shows, and the promoters “fill up a hall” but the quality of the entries is 23
lacking what we were expecting and have come to count on from an ISCA show. Besides al the cool rides, there was plenty of family fun throughout the show for every members of the family. If you’re looking to thaw out next February, plan now to head to B’Ham and the World of Wheels show on the second weekend of the month. You’ll know you’re in the right spot when you feel the thaw taking place outside.
