Some of this and a little of that… Things in the car show and cruisein world have really throttled back. In my opinion...that’s ok. There are some events going on, depending on weather and location in the USA. Choices are good and this gives you a place to go if you want to. Chillin’ is good too... interest and submissions, we will feature them in an article in an upcoming 2017 issue. Whether you are just starting, getting close to finishing or somewhere in between, show us what you’re working on in your shop. Email the pic’s and some info on the project to us at gearheadgazzette@gmail.com.
Thanks to all of you who submitted an entry for our first ever Cover Photo Contest. We received 45 entries for the contest. I have to say that you did not make it easy to pick the 3 who will grace covers in Jan 2017. The judging team is hard at it.
Now put some Hi-Test in your sleigh, go buy some more presents.
One activity that does happen in winter here in the USA, is garage time on your projects. We want to see and share what you are working on this winter. 4

Rodders Journal has teamed up with some of the biggest and best names in the hot rod business to give away over $10,000 in hard parts and prizes this Christmas! Each day until Dec 24th, they’ll announce a new prize from a different manufacturer. To enter to win that prize, just post a photo of your hot rod or custom to their Facebook wall or Instagram. Include hashtag #roddersjournal and the name of the prize you’re entering to win—it’s that easy! You can enter for one prize, or enter each day for all 14 prizes! Tell your friends to follow RJ online and to “like” your photo. They’ll take those “likes” into consideration when they are choosing the winners (though they won’t be the only factor). After a tense afternoon of racing, Danny Popp is the Goodguys 2016 F.A.S.T. AutoCrosser of the Year. This is Danny’s third AutoCrosser of the Year title in the past four years having won it in 2013, 2015, and now 2016. This year’s Duel in the Desert – presented by BF Goodrich Tires, Tremec, Spectre Performance, and Turnology – was the stage for the nation’s premier AutoCross racers battling it out in a 32-car single elimination tournament.
Third and fourth place spots were filled by Josh Leisinger driving his Summit Racing Corvette and Brian Hobaugh behind the wheel of his Spectre Performance Corvette. The two Corvette drivers worked their way up the ladder by running clean laps and getting faster with each run, whereas their competitors were knocking over cones and picking up penalties. Their consistent lap times also helped them get by veteran racers, Robby Unser and Al Unser Jr. But Hobaugh made a fatal mistake in the final heat: kicking a cone out of its box right after leaving the starting line, which opened the door to Leisinger’s third place with a 64.308.
Danny wasn’t the fastest driver during practice and the elimination rounds – that honor went to Scott Fraser in Bruce Cambern’s original AC Cobra – but driver experience and a wee bit of racing luck earned Danny bragging rights for a year, a Snap-on tool chest, and a $3,000 winner’s check. 10

One of the highlights of the GNRS show for the past 11 years has been the GRAND DADDY DRIVE-IN. It’s an event within the GNRS event. It happens on Saturday and Sunday of the show, with the biggest of the 2 days being Saturday. SoCal hot rodders, and even some from across the USA register and enter their pre-72 cars and trucks into the DRIVE-IN Show. There are even some awards for the participants. The BIG winners are all the show goers at the GNRS show. You have a huge show inside the buildings and appx. 800 more cool rides to check out outside the buildings. This year Saturday was a little overcast, but the place filled up with great hot rods. Unfortunately Sunday had a little drizzle come down off and on, but there were hard core hot rodders there on Sunday too! Check out just a small sample of what we saw.—Jimmy B
