One of the fun deals we do when we arrive in So-Cal for the GNRS, is our version of a “Road Tour” in Southern Californina.
We’re headed out in January 2017 again for the GNRS show. We will be doing a ROAD TOUR again then too. We are looking at and lining up the stops for the tour. If your going to be at the GNRS and want to ride along, let us know. We’re going to have some big gearhead fun again.
In this weeks issue, we have a multi-page feature, with LOTS of pictures of the stops we made on this years “ROAD TOUR” in So -Cal. We hope you like the coverage we have. Holley Performance Products will launch LS FEST WEST in 2017. Holley is adding another LS FEST to the schedule for 2017! The super popular event has only been held in Bowling Green KY so far ,but in 2017 that changes. The NEW event will unfold at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. LS Fest West is not replacing the original Holley LS Fest that started it all in Bowling Green in 2010. Now there are two LS Fests – Vegas in the spring, and the original in the fall.in Bowling Green. LS Fest is a celebration of anything and everything powered by the incredible GM LS engine or current-generation LT engine, according to Holley. "We’ve heard from numerous LS enthusiasts out west how they would love to attend the event if only it were closer," said Bill Tichenor, director of marketing for Holley. "LS Fest West is our answer to these requests and will allow fans of the LS engine to experience the same kind of sensory overload that everyone has enjoyed for the past seven years in our hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky." Everything that made the original LS Fest such a success will be part of LS Fest West in Las Vegas, including autocross, a road course challenge, drag racing, a dyno challenge, drift challenge, Show-n-Shine, and 3S challenge. New for the Vegas event, however, will be an off-road competition. 6
At this years SEMA SHOW, RAT RODS were all over the show. In booths, sprinkled here and there and everywhere on the show floor. Here are a few shots of some of the hundreds of RAT RODS at this years show. Creativity Abounds!

A nice turn out of hot rods and classic cars and trucks were on hand also for the event.
This past Saturday, we got to be part of a really cool event as we attended the RAT TRAP RACING Christmas Open House. Hosted by Ron & Brian Hope and their wives, families and race team members, it was a fun time for all those in attendance.
The race shop and office area is filled with race cars, parts and some really cool memorabilia from over the many many years that the RAT TRAP AA/FA has been around.
Our thanks to Ron, Brian, their wives and the whole RAT TRAP Team for a great time in celebrating the Christmas Season.

Automotive graphic artists, they are the folks that take our ideas or theirs and turn them into something cool. From time to time we like to feature one of the graphic artists who like drawing cars, trucks, etc. T-shirts, flyers, banners, renderings and more come off their drawing table.
Meet Micah Claycamp! Like a lot of artists, Micah is self taught and continues to refine and define his style with each project he takes on. Here is more about Micah in his own words: A little about myself... I'm a husband, father of 4, lizard enthusiast and Christian who loves to draw CARtooned cars.
(Michah’s 1st Truck Sketch) My son's friend had left it by accident. I brought it inside and decided to draw him a picture in it as a surprise. I decided to draw a truck. I sketched it out, then inked it in, then closed the drawing pad. I was excited for the surprise my son's friend would get when he opened it. I decided to post that drawing on Instagram and also facebook. I shared the story then went to bed. A few days later I was contacted by a gradeschool friend (Ken Tisdel) who saw my drawing on facebook. He wanted to commission me to draw 3 drawings for him.
I started Micahdoodles (part-time) after I started getting requests to draw people's vehicles almost 2 years ago. One night after I took my son and his friend home from basketball practice, I noticed a drawing pad in the back seat. 14
It's been a wild ride as my style continues to change and develop. I draw most nights after the family goes to bed from 10pm to midnight catching up on client requests and sharpening my skills. I draw traditionally (with pen and ink and digitally)... You can watch me draw on YouTube - search micahdoodles. My encouragement for those car artists is to get involved in a car artist forum either on IG or Fb. Draw and post often and learn from others. Most of all, have fun at what you do.

In our previous 2 issues, we featured the Grand National Roadster Show, both from an overall show perspective and also the AMBR (America’s Most Beautiful Roadster) competition and winner. When we head west for the GNRS, we include a So-Cal Road Tour to various hot rod shops and other cool gearhead activities going on as part of GNRS weekend. There is a lot to see and do so we filled the tank on our rental unit and headed out on the road…. Stop #1 Downey CA—Bob’s Big Boy Broiler: Wednesday night is cruise night at Bob’s in Downey. It was a little chilly so the lot wasn’t packed, but still plenty of cool cars to check out and get a burger too!
Day 2—Thursday: Starting out early and Stop #1 is at STOKERS HOT ROD FACTORY in Upland CA. Since the last time we visited STOKERS, they moved to a new bigger location in Upland. The new shop is bigger, but plans are in place to put a new addition on also in 2016. 22
Stop #2 on Thursday was in Pomona at the world famous So-Cal Speed Shop. Not only were we checking out the latest, but other folks in town for the GNRS were there too. Always some cool stiuff in the shop and at So-Cal Speed Shop.

Stop #3 on Thursday was at Waldens Speed Shop. Bobby Waldens “Metal Emporium” is kind of “around the corner” from So-Cal’s shop. Bobby is, in our opinion, one of THE BEST metal craftsman in the country and the hot rod biz too.
After a lunch stop, Stop #4 was the Petersen Museum in LA on Wilshire Blvd. It had been a couple of years since we had visited “The Pete” as it has been known, in honor or “Pete” Petersen who created it. The Petersen has gone thru a year long overhaul and re-design. We have to tell you, the changes they made work! The place is laid out great. Check out some of the cool stuff we saw inside!.

Stop #6 and our last stop for the day, was at the Old Crow Speed Shop. Housed in a cool old building, the OCSS hosts the GNRS Kick Off Party. Fresh made taco’s, adult beverages, music and all thos traditional hot rods and customs that show up for the fun. Add in DELMO’s Truck shop as part of the fun under the same roof and it was a perfect way to wrap up the day. 26

Friday Night after a long day at the GNRS show, we headed to Burbank CA and the cruise night at Bob’s BIG BOY. This location is the oldest of the remaining ORIGINAL Big Boy drive-in’s. in the USA
Bit of trivia, The world famous ROAD KING’s Car Club uses this Bob’s, as their meeting location and they have some great memorabilia inside on display too. Lot’s of cool cars parked and cruising thru and great burgers add up to a fun night.
