We are in the first week of June and car show time across America. Along with both of these events, comes HEAT and depending where you are and live, HUMIDITY too. As I touched on in a recent issue, watching someone go down, getting sick, from the heat is no fun.

Report: mid-engine C8 Corvette to get flat-crank 600- and 800-hp V-8s, 1,000-hp AWD hybrid version, but no manual New details surrounding Chevrolet's worst-kept secret, the next-generation mid-engine Corvette, should be more than enough to perk up enthusiasts' ears. The rather detailed information comes from a Car and Driver report, which pegs three engines for the sports car turned supercar. At launch, the C8 Corvette will receive an upgraded version of the current 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 found in the current Corvette Stingray. However, horsepower will allegedly increase from 460 to 500 to make up for some added weight. Moving right along, we arrive at the juicier details. Chevrolet will reportedly stick a 5.5liter DOHC flat-plane crank V-8 engine under the hood, and it will produce at least 600 hp. Expect a redline much higher than in past Corvettes. Soon thereafter, C/D reported, the same 5.5-liter V-8 engine will receive two turbos to send horsepower to about 800. We previously were treated to CAD images showing a twin-turbo V-8 engine for the midengine Corvette. Now, it seems quite likely we were staring at the 5.5-liter V-8 referenced in the latest report.

Not enough? No problem for Chevrolet and General Motors engineers. Sitting atop the engine hierarchy will be a 1,000 hp all-wheel-drive hybrid setup, according to C/D. The basis of the powertrain will remain the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, but a 200-hp electric motor will power the front wheels, while the internal-combustion engine will send power to the rear. That's where the 1,000 hp figure comes into play. Despite all of the spectacular engineering work, the report claims Chevrolet will keep the mid-engine Corvette an everyman's sports car with supercar levels of performance. Thus, the C8 Corvette will likely be largely made of aluminum with various components made from magnesium and carbon fiber. Fiberglass will make up most of the body panels and

total weight should come in around 3,500 pounds. That all sounds like great news, but it appears there is bad news for the #giveashift crowd. According to C&D's intelligence, no manual transmission is planned. Instead, a new Tremec 8-speed dual-clutch will be the only transmission. Before wrapping up the load of enlightening details, C&D also noted that we will likely see more of the car in the spring of 2019.

Pair of Rare Supercars to Raise Money for United Way The last 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon rolled off the line last week at the FCA US Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada. The limited-production Demon and the last 2017 Dodge Viper hand-built American supercar will be auctioned as a pair at the June 20-23 Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction with all hammer proceeds from the sale going to the United Way. After leaving the Brampton plant, the last 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will travel to an upfit center for its final stages of assembly, which includes adding a hand-painted exclusive Viper Red exterior color, 18-inch aluminum wheels, 18-inch Demon drag radial tires, Demon vehicle badging and a one-of-a-kind VIN instrument panel badging. Production of the Challenger SRT Demon was limited to one model year and 3,300 units. The winning bidder at the Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction, held at the Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, Connecticut, takes home a combined 1,485 horsepower with the 840horsepower Demon and 645-horsepower Viper. Production of the V-10-powered Dodge Viper concluded at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit in August. The last production 2017 Dodge Viper is styled in homage to the first-generation Dodge Viper RT/10 with its Viper Red exterior and black interior. The car (VIN ending in 731948) includes exterior carbon fiber accents, black Alcantara leather seats and an exclusive VIN instrument panel badge and authentication kit. Dodge//SRT and Barrett-Jackson have collaborated before with a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, VIN0001, that raised $1.65 million in 2014.

Nashville TN, aka Music City, is full of musicians, singers and other folks in the music biz. When you are a musician in Music City (Nashville TN) and your peers from all genres of music call you and refer to you as one of the hardest working musicians in town, that speaks volumes about that person. That kind of respect does not just happen, but rather is earned over time.

Meet Dan Auerbach….yea that Dan Auerbach. Songwriter, guitar player, singer, musician, record label owner, music studio owner, one half of The Black Keys, founder of The Arc’s, successful solo artist and producer of records by artists like Lana Del Ray, Ray LaMontagne, and Cage The Elephant. Then there is the other side of Dave. While known as a talented musician with a passionate work ethic, Dan’s passion for vintage motorcycle’s is less well known. Dan Auerbach’s collection 44

consists of those Harley-Davidsons that have not been fully restored, yet retain much of the character of the prior owners, including the modifications that reflect their personalities. Ten of these motorcycles will be on display in the exhibit The Dan Auerbach Collection: Vintage HarleyDavidsons from 1937-1950, opening Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, TN.

“We are honored and thrilled to host Dan’s vintage Harley collection” said Jeff Lane, Lane Motor Museum Director. “This is the first time that Dan’s collection is being shown to the public and he has such unique pieces so full of character that casual observers and collectors alike will enjoy it.” From the revolutionary 1937 EL "Knucklehead", Dan's first Harley, to his favorite, a 1940 EL nicknamed "Red Devil", these bikes fuse his appreciation for folk art with the sound and ride that only a vintage Harley can deliver. As the son of an antique dealer, Auerbach caught the bug early for a vintage aesthetic that has carried into his adult life. Filled with patina and personality, each of the bikes in this collection reflect his love and appreciation for a time long past. All of the bikes are in working order and are ridden often by Auerbach. 45
