This week’s issue tells me we are 1/2 way thru 2018. Issue 26 is in front of you now. As we close out June and head into July, America’s birthday is upon us. July 4th...our Independence day. With our independence as a nation, comes many people from many back rounds and countries. No I am not going all political on you, hang with me now. Our nation is a diverse one. The diversity makes us better and stronger as a people and a nation in my opinion. That diversity plays out with our car hobby, love of cars, trucks, motorcycles and way of “car life” too. Hot Rods, street rods, muscle cars, originals, restored, trucks, Chevy, Ford, Chrysler, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, pro street, clones, fat fendered, no fenders, hi-boy, lo-boy, billet, cast, steelies…..it goes on and on for our hobby! This is the diversity I am talking about. All these wonderful types and styles of the cars and trucks we love go together so very well. Now everyone has there own certain likes and that’s what they are driving or building to drive one day...and that’s ok. The other part of this deal is appreciating what someone else likes, and respecting what they do and how they do it too.

All the choices available to us is what makes our hobby and way of life so great. Think how dull and boring a car show would be with nothing but 1 kind of car in one color and style. Early on this was Henry Fords motto...you can have any color you want as long it’s black. What did early hot rodders do, modify the model T and later models and even put some other color on the car. Ol’ Henry finally came around with different styles and added color to the order sheet too! It’s wonderful in my eyes, that we all get along so well at all our events across the USA. We accept each other for who we are and what we drive and what we do. This is what the founding fathers envisioned and wanted the USA to be. We in the car community live it everyday. This independence we have, came and continues to come at a price. It is not free. Many men and women have served to earn our freedom and serve today to keep our freedom and way of life for us. Many of these brave military members have given their life in the pursuit of our freedom. When you are enjoying the BBQ or fireworks on the 4th, remember these folks too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!

While it was cold still in most parts of the USA in early March, it was nice and warm near the Arizona / California border, in Lake Havasu AZ. Truth be known, the city of Lake Havasu was HOT, as in all kinds of HOT RODS and cool cars came to town to take part in the HAVASU DEUCES 2018 Show.

The Havasu Deuce Show is actually a 3day event that features 1932 Fords and includes cars from 1957 or earlier as well. The show was held on the grass ball fields of Rotary Park ( VERY NICE PARK!) The host club, The Havasu Deuces, put up a 40' x 120' open tent for participant s and spectators to sit in and relax during the show. The lake, the park, and the beautiful ball fields make it an ideal setting for a car show. In addition to the Havasu Deuce Show on Saturday, the main event if you will, there was a street event and garage tours also, across the 3 days 40

The Havasu Deuces Show is more than a show, it’s a “happening”. People that attended it say “it’s the best ever”. The car show takes place on the grass ballfields at Rotary park. The venue doesn’t get any better. The beautiful grass, the lake view, and a field full of 1932 Fords. How can you beat that???? The long weekend started on Thursday evening, as tons of 32s and street rods parked on McCulloch Blvd. The street was closed to through traffic so people could walk the boulevard and check out the rods at their leisure. Friday was an amazing day also. Havasu is known for its garages and shops. The Havasu Deuces decided that it would be a great experience for entrants to tour some of these shops. A lot of people commented that this was their favorite part of the event. The tour was full of collector cars and rods, some in process, and each with a story to tell. Saturday was the day on the grass. The Main Event! It was amazing to see all those 32s lined up, almost like a military operation. You could just look around and see how everybody was relaxed and having a good time. There was no pressure or emphasis on winning trophies. Instead, the Havasu Deuces gave away a hand carved, wooden 32 roadster to one lucky entrant by a random drawing. It’s not many places or shows that you can see this many 32s lined up. At the end of the day and the end of a fun filled 3 days as they left the show, it was sad to see it come to an end Smiles retuned pretty quick though as the 2019 show isn’t that far off the way 43
