I AM CALLING FOUL! Each week when I write this section of the Gearhead Gazzette, I try to write about upbeat and fun stuff going on in our hobby / lifestyle. My belief is there is a so much good out there, let’s share it so everybody knows about it and can maybe take advantage of it. Having said that, I am going in a different direction this week. This is something that really bothers me and I believe most of you too, or it should. Over more than a little bit of time, months and the last few years, there is a level of “meanness” that I have seen and witnessed creeping into our hobby. Our cars, trucks, motorcycles are our pride and joy. Whether you have one or maybe two, none the less they are yours! Whether you built all of it, some of it, bought it or traded for it, it’s yours. Our vehicles tend to be an extension of us...who we are...what we like. While at the events I attend, I listen to what people are saying when they are looking at a vehicle on display. Whether it’s an indoor or outdoor show, people stop, look and comment on the vehicles. I do it too. Taking in and admiring what a person has done is great. It’s even belter when you tell the person that

owns the vehicle. We all appreciate positive comments. The part of all this that bothers me, is the folks that look at a car and call it a “piece of crap” or worse. It happens and some of you may even have done this. I AM CALLING FOUL! While you wouldn't build or own a vehicle built a certain way by someone else, calling it or describing it as a “piece of crap” or worse is out of bounds! If it’s not something you like...move on! All hot rods and cool cars and trucks are not the same. We are all different and that’s ok. The same thing is happening on social media and probably in a bigger way too. People will comment on a picture of a car in a derogatory manner, and post it publicly. FOUL!! Again if its not your cup of tea...MOVE ON. Feelings get hurt and rightfully so. In my opinion its time to turn it around gearheads. Be nice to each other. Life is too short to waste our day being mean to someone. Have fun and enjoy each other...we’re all we have on this rock...

If you have an overwhelming desire to shut the Dodge Demon people up for good, New Jersey -based GM tuner Specialty Vehicle Engineering has the answer to your troubles with a famed name from Chevy’s tuner past. The company is now selling bored, stroked, and supercharged 1,000 horsepower Corvette Grand Sports at Chevrolet dealerships. Because why not more-than-double the stock horsepower? The company which was formerly called Street Legal Performance (you might remember its Pontiac G8 FIrehawk from a few years back), is offering the 2019 YENKO/SC® Stage II 1000 HP Corvette as a limited edition run of only 25. In true American form, Specialty Vehicle Engineering says that there’s “no substitute for cubic inches or supercharging,” which is why the 1000 HP Corvette features a 6.8-liter bored and stroked V8 based on the Grand Sport’s factory 6.2-liter LT-1 engine. But that’s not all, with the claimed “#1 GM Specialty Vehicle Manufacturer in the USA” saying the 1,000 HP car, like its 825 HP “stage I” sibling, gets a block that has been blueprinted, as well as a forged crankshaft, forged H-beam rods, forged aluminum pistons, and an upgraded fuel system. But in addition to those, the Stage II 1000HP engine—which makes an SAE certified 1,000 horsepower and 850 lb-ft according to vice president David Hamburger—gets CNC ported high-flow LT4 heads, stronger main and head fasteners, a 20 percent larger displacement supercharger (2,900 cc, to be exact—which the company says yields 25 percent more boost), a 10 rib belt drive, a 10 percent larger throttle body, an upgraded exhaust system, and a different fuel system. Automatic versions get beefier internals (with a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty), while manual models get a different clutch than stock. There are also some aesthetic changes, including optional exterior graphics, as well as sYc and Yanko badges all over the interior.

The Stage II 1000 HP Yenko/SC Supercharged Corvette costs $68,995 in addition to the stock Corvette Grand Sport, while the automatic will run you $77,995 plus the factory car. The packages can be ordered through authorized GM dealers, and each come with a three year, 36,000 mile “engine and supercharger assembly limited warranty.” Which means you should feel free to let that huge supercharger sing and that 10 percent larger throttle body suck in huge volumes of air. 6

Legal Drag Racing Comes to Detroit for a Day in August Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge organizers promise the event will be even bigger when it opens on Aug. 11. The event held at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan will feature more thrill ride experiences in the 707-horsepower Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat models, additional celebrity showdown races, and its largest purse ever at $40,000. Roadkill Nights features two drag racing classes: Big Tire and Small Tire. The $40,000 purse will include $10,000 awarded to the celebrity showdown race winner’s charity of choice. Both drag racing classes will have the same payout structure with $15,000 as the total purse per class: Winner – $5,000, Runner Up – $1,500, Semi Finalists – $750 (two payouts), Quarter Finalists – $500 (four payouts), Fastest Dodge-powered vehicle – $5,000. “Last year, more than 40,000 enthusiasts celebrated performance car culture at ‘Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge’ in an epic kick off to a week of cruising events,” said Steve Beahm, head of passenger car brands for FCA North America. “With drag racing, thrill rides and music, Roadkill Nights gets people on to a track run by professionals, so they can really show how their hot rods perform in a more controlled environment.” Doubling the Dodge Thrill Ride experiences, the 707horsepower Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat models will be in two locations within the M1 Concourse this year. Drifting will be back shredding tires on the M1 Concourse skid pad. The other location will again be on the north loop of the M1 track. The drag racing will include a celebrity showdown with Motor Trend’s Roadkill co-hosts David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan. Chris Jacobs of Velocity’s BarrettJackson Live will emcee the activities, while Brian Lohnes of Motor Trend’s Put Up or Shut Up will emcee the drag races. Additional industry celebrity attendees include Richard Rawlings of Discovery’s Fast n’ Loud Steve Magnante of Velocity’s Barrett-Jackson Live, Cristy Lee of BarrettJackson Live and All Girls Garage, and Bill Goldberg and Matt D’Andria from the automotive podcast CarCast with Adam Carolla. There also will be more celebrities participating in showdown races and the addition of freestyle motocross exhibitions. Leah Pritchett in her Dodge/Mopar Top Fuel Dragster and Matt Hagan in his Dodge Charger Funny Car will once again light ‘em up on Woodard Avenue, according to organizers. The event also will include virtual head-to-head racing in Dodge Challenger SRT Demon simulators; show ‘n’ shine; dyno testing; Roadkill stunts; flamethrower and wheelstander exhibitions; family friendly kidszone activities; and an array of food truck offerings. Gates are open for Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with Dodge Thrill Rides taking place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and drag racing from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. 7

If you live in the Northeast / East Coast part of the USA, unless you just haven’t been paying attention, one of the biggest car show/events of the past 6 years is put on by the Deadman's Curve Hot Rod Club. The DMC Wild Weekend in Mahwah NJ has just about every kind of car activity as part of the weekend fun. The Deadman's Curve Hot Rod Club has been around for 40 years now. A group of hard core hot rodders who like to have “car fun”

For the 2018 and the first time, they put together a one day event. They chose the Historic Warwick Drive In in Warwick New York, as the event location. With not a lot of drive in movie locations left around anymore, this looked like the perfect place! Plenty of room to park a lot of cool rides from across the region. The day turned out spectacular and just got better from there. You could not ask for a better day, even with the threat of rain all week, the die hard gearheads made the day great, with a great showing with hot rods, Kool Kustoms, Trucks, Ratrods, Stockers and more turning out with 300 cool rides filling the lanes in the drive-in Also on hand was Willie Johnson and his No Money No Funny Car and Christian Huebner in his outrageous" Grocery Getter" Station Wagon for al the participants and spectators to enjoy. Plenty of other entertainment was on hand with DJ Jim, a few bands, the swap meet, pinstripers, door prizes and much more. There was also a free shuttle bus to Pennings Farm ..Beer Garden, Pub & Grill to make the day that much more fun for everyone. The DMC Boys and Girls, they knocked it out of the drive in on this premier event at the drive- in. Get ready, they are going to do it again next year and you know it will be that much more fun!
