You only turn 49 once... “LOO-Ville” When you say it, most every car person, hot rodder and gearhead head knows what you're talking about. The NSRA Street Rod Nationals being held in Louisville Kentucky. This is the weekend many many thousands of gearheads head to the “Derby City” for four plus days of hot rod fun. While not the longest running events in the USA ( there are both indoor and some outdoor shows around longer), it is one that has stayed the test of time. 49 years ago, in about the middle of the country, the first Street Rod Nationals was held in Peoria IL. That gathering of like minded hot rodders who put the event together and who chose to attended the event as participants, at the time, did not know the significance of what this event would do. This event jump started the hot rod movement and a whole industry

dedicated to hot rods and eventually a lot more. Nobody knew for sure who or how many hot rodders would show up...but they did. They DROVE their hot rods from all over the USA to get to this 1st event of its kind. Based on the response and participation, another event was planned and held. And then another and another and another! This weekend #49 is being held in “LOO-Ville”! Over the years, NSRA’s “BIG ONE” has been moved around before settling in for a long time in Louisville. The location and facility works..nuff said. NSRA has also changed with the times too. Change whether you like it or not is need to keep the event going. Look in the mirror, a lot of us are covered in gray. We need new blood! HAPPY #49 NSRA and here’s to #50 too!

VINTAGE AIR INTRODUCES LOW PROFILE LS FRONT RUNNER SYSTEM Vintage Air, the leading manufacturer of complete performance air conditioning systems and billet accessory drive systems for classics, hot rods, muscle cars and trucks, has announced the release of its new Low Profile Front Runner system for LS engines with aftermarket or custom intake manifolds that utilize large diameter throttle bodies. Thanks to the engine’s ease of modification and ability to be stuffed into just about any vehicle ever made, it has become one of the most popular engine platforms among performance enthusiasts. In response to the increasing demand for an LS accessory belt system with “extra clearance” to accommodate aftermarket intake manifolds and large-bore throttle bodies, Vintage Air has designed and introduced its new Low Profile Front Runner system. These new low-profile kits are machined from the same high strength 6061-T6 billet aluminum used on all Vintage Air Front Runner kits. The kit features a redesigned main truss-bracket that provides the additional space required to run an aftermarket intake manifold and larger throttle body. The system also includes a new Edelbrock water pump with replaceable impeller cartridge and threaded heater hose outlets. The system is available in four different finishes – “Bright,” “Bright and Chrome,” “Black” and “Black and Chrome.” The “Bright” finish (Part# 174027) features a machine finished bracket with polished compressor and alternator, chrome pulleys, and polished clutch and tensioner covers. The “Bright and Chrome” finish (Part# 174028) adds a chrome compressor, alternator and clutch and tensioner covers. The “Black” finish option (Part# 174029) features a black anodized bracket with natural finish compressor and alternator, black hardcoat pulleys, and black anodized clutch and tensioner covers while the “Black and Chrome” finish option (Part# 172030) adds chrome compressor and alternator. Speeding Ticket Time! The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is requesting reimbursement after Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway used federal funds to purchase a Dodge Charger Hellcat SRT. The DOJ approved nearly $70,000 of asset forfeiture funds through an equitable sharing program to support the Sheriff’s Office, but according to a letter from the DOJ obtained by the Atlanta Journal Constitution the Charger Hellcat is considered an extravagant expenditure because it is not typically part of a law enforcement fleet. Per the letter, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office is not eligible to request or receive any more asset forfeiture funds until the DOJ Is reimbursed for the Hellcat. A July 31 deadline was given. A spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office told the Gwinnett Daily Post that, when the funds were approved, there was no indication that the new vehicle would be a concern until a local reporter brought the vehicle to attention of the DOJ. She also noted the vehicle will be used in Beat the Heat, a nonprofit where police officers and firefighters race vehicles. For a lot of us gearheads, when we attend a national event, we tend to roll in early before the actual start day of the event. After the hotel check in and scoping out of the area/town, we look for some hot rod fun to have with our rides. So it was at this years GOODGUYS Nashville Nationals.

Car guys and gals rolling into Music City headed over to the open house and kick off party being held again this year at ADVANCED PLATING. Steve Tracy and his team opened their doors and welcomed a whole lot of people. The parking lot our front was packed with all kinds of cool rides from all over the USA!

great hosts with good ol’ Tennessee barbeque and all the fixin’s too being served up. Drinks, dessert, live music all evening and more were also on the menu. If you drove your cool car or truck in, you got a goodie bag filled with some great stuff! To walk off that great serving of food, everyone had an opportunity to check out all area’s of the plating operation. If you have never seen how its done, it is quite cool to be able to do this. On top of seeing how chrome is done right, there were a number of great cars on display inside the shop including GREAT 8 winners from this years RIDLER Award competition. Take a look at some of the cool cars and trucks that came out to this year Nashville Nationals Kickoff Party and then get ready to join in the fun at next’s years event!
