“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”
This car show is better than that car show...
With all these choices we have in the gearhead world, sometimes some feelings get hurt. How you ask? Well when there 2 events on the same day, in close proximity to each other, they both want to have a successful show. A lot of times the measurement of success for a car show is the number of entries they have. Obviously more entries means more $$ brought in for the club or cause or whatever. When you have 2 shows on the same day or weekend, rivalry builds. Rivalry is good, but when a few folks resort to making nasty comments about another event, it causes bad feeling and sometimes that high school argument I mentioned earlier. How about instead of measuring how many entries a show has, we measure how much fun the participants had? Isn’t that what this is about...having fun with cool cars? I believe it is. If your event does a great job at the fun factor, your next show will be an even bigger success
We hear and watch this banter go back and forth. Happens more then you think it does. Sometimes it even degrades into a “high school” like argument ..you remember what I am talking about. If you go back, back to when many of us had full color in our hair and not gray or gray streaks, there weren’t a lot of weekly car shows going on. This made it very easy, as you went to the one that was taking place on a given day or weekend. As time has gone by, very fast I must mention or is it just me, more and more car shows have popped up on the weekends. Depending on the time of year and region of the USA, quite literally there are dozens of shows or events taking place on the same day, within a few hours of each other. Is this good or bad? Are car show or cruise-in choices really bad? From where I sit...the answer is a resounding NO! Having choices is great! Actually the more the better.

Mid-Engine Corvette to be named “Zora”? GM Trademarks ‘Zora’ Globally As Potential Mid-Engine Corvette Name The mid-engine Corvette is coming. Spy shots, sighting and rumors galore have made that it rather clear that the next Corvette will have the engine in the middle of the vehicle, rather than in the front. But outside of technical questions such as the upcoming supercar’s performance, specifications or pricing attributes, possibly the biggest question is what it will be called. Current theories have included everything from “Corvette” to Corvette C8, mid-engine Corvette, and Zora. While first three names are self-explanatory, the Zora name would be in honor of the first Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, who campaigned making a midengine Corvette for the overwhelming majority of his career at General Motors. And that brings us to today. GM has filed trademarks for the Zora name in intellectual property offices in nine countries (in the case of the European Union, unions) around the world, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, as well as the United Kingdom and the EU. Zora Arkus-Duntov, the Corvette’s first chief engineer who helped lay the groundwork for the two-door Chevy to become a great American sports car, always wanted a midengined Corvette to compete with its European contemporaries. It started in 1964 when Arkus-Duntov built XP-819, a mid-engined vision of what the Corvette could be. But it’s a car he never saw to fruition. There’ve been multiple prototypes since then, and this is the closest we’ve come to such a Corvette entering production. If GM doesn’t use the Zora name in some fashion with the mid-engined Corvette, it would feel like a missed opportunity to honor the father of the Corvette who wanted to see a midengined version compete with European supercars. The Chevy Corvette Zora does have a beautiful ring to it. 6
Pontiac Transportation Museum Slated To Open Spring 2019 It’s easy to credit Detroit as the city behind the American auto industry, but let’s not forget another city just down the road. Another Mecca of automotive sorts is Pontiac, Michigan. While Detroit does hold the moniker, of “The Motor City,” Pontiac played an integral role in transitioning the United States from equestrian transportation to real horsepower. Wait… you know what we mean! To make sure no one forgets the great accomplishments of companies rooted in Pontiac history, The Pontiac Transportation Museum has been created. According to the museums website, it was created to, “Celebrate the heritage and remarkable achievements of these many enterprises, the Pontiac Transportation Museum is being created to showcase examples of the cars, trucks, and other vehicles designed or built here – vehicles that truly changed the nation and the world.” And change the world they did! Even now, with the construction of the Pontiac Museum and the beautiful collection it will house, countless people will be able to enjoy and be inspired by all it has to offer. Not only will the 55,000 square-foot museum house vehicle display galleries, a theatre, library, and restoration spaces, it will also maintain various programs aimed at educating young people, and urging them to follow their own dreams. Located at 250 W. Pike Street in Pontiac, Michigan, the Museum is slated to open it’s doors to the public in the Spring of 2019. If you’d like to find more information or submit a donation, you can visit the museum’s website at pontiactransportationmuseum.org 7

Story & Photo’s by Jimmy B
Just like the title of this feature story says, “it was nothin’ but hot rod music” all weekend long at the 13th Annual Goodguys Nashville Nationals. Held again this year at the home of the Tennessee Titans, Nissan Stadium, the blacktop and grass were covered with over 2000 hot rods, customs, muscle cars, trick trucks and a whole lot more cool rides.
The Nashville Nationals continues to grow in participation, as it is easy to get to from a lot of the good ole’ USA. The ease of getting around Nashville is another reason this events continues to grow each year. Thursday afternoon/evening started the weekend fun with the Kick-Off party hosted at ADVANCED PLATING. The parking lot and grass were covered with cool cars and trucks as many gearheads started 30
their hot rod weekend early. Steve Tracy and his team opened their doors for everyone to checkout how they make all those part shine like they do. Add in some Great 8 cars from this years RIDLER Competition and some other cool builds on display inside, along with some great Tennessee B-B-Q, made for a great way to starting having weekend fun.
Back again this year was the TANKS Hot Rod Of The Year competition. Since the HROTY moved to Nashville, the interest and entries have grown as pre-48 hot rods vie the title of HOT ROD OF THE YEAR. So many cool hot rods going on the drive and doing some drag racing...just can’t beat that!

The AUTOCROSS area is always packed with fans watching the autocrossers take laps around the course. New this year was the MUSIC CITY MAYHEM, a 16 car shoot out, made up of the 16 fastest cars or trucks in any of the classes.
With the event reduced to 2 days, due to Mothers Day, the Specialty Parking areas (Goodguys Builder's Choice by Bobby Alloway—Camaro Corral—Deuce Doin’s—Homebuilt Heaven—Mighty Muscle—Tri 5 Chevy Corral—Trick Truck Corral - Ya Gotta Drive Em' - Young Guys/ Gals) were packed with great cars and trucks. We’re glad we didn't have to judge any of these cause that was one rough decision(s) to have to make.
32
Many gearheads headed over to the Swap Meet area and Car Corral to check out the deals there all weekend long. We saw more than one person carrying a part or new treasure back to their car to take home. Night time for folks in town for the event is always fun too. A lot of participants head down to the honky tonks on “Lower Broad” and 2nd Ave. Night time in Nashville is always fun! If you have never been to the Nashville Nationals or missed this years event, make your plans to be at the 14th Annual Nashville Nationals. We know you’ll have a great time and we bet you enjoy that Hot Rod Music...turn the volume up cause they’re playin’ our song!

Here are some of he great entries that competed for the TANKS Hot Rod Of The Year . Congratulations to the Martin Special for winning the 2018 HROTY competition !
