“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

Hot rodding owes a lot to our veterans, We don’t know them all,

Those veterans not only protected our way of life, but the worlds also. As newscaster Tom Brokaw says, “they are the greatest generation” . They also got many idea’s from the equipment they worked on and parts they used and took care of, and adapted them to their hot rods. Military surplus became a way of building hot rods to run on the dry lakes, at Bonneville and on the drag strip too. Think “bomber seats”...from military airplanes, and may other parts too.

but we owe them all….

This coming Sunday November 11th, our nation celebrates VETERANS DAY. Veterans Day is the time we recognize ALL Veterans who have served in all the conflicts our country has experienced. We recognize the Veterans who are still alive as well as those that have passed away. Most importantly we remember and recognize those people who paid the ultimate price, by giving their life while fighting for our country. These are the true HERO’s of our country.

The GI BILL (remember that!) helped many a returning soldier and sailor go to college and start their own hot rod type business. They started what we enjoy today. All of our Veterans wrote a blank check to our country, and put their lives on the line. For that we say thanks...every day and in many ways.

Please accept a heartfelt thank you from me to all of you who served or are serving our great country, in one of the various branches of the military. Because of you, we remain a free nation.

I am proud to say that I served our country in the US NAVY…..

Hot rodding owes a lot to our veterans, especially the ones who served and fought in WWII.

Jimmy B.

“the fun starts here”….

Born Again! The Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro Concept Back in 1969, Chevrolet offered an allaluminum, 500 horsepower 427ci V8 called the ZL1. The ride was created for the Camaro under Central Office Production Order 9560, known as COPO Camaros. Nearly 50 years after the COPO Camaros, Chevrolet has remade this drag racing beast with some modern advancements. Here is your first look at the new Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro Concept. This striking machine is powered by two electric motors and a GM-first 800volt battery, which equates to 700 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. If that isn’t impressive enough, the quarter-mile times in the nine-second range certainly will. The rides dual electric motors bolt to the transmission and driveshaft that connects to the same axle as a stock Camaro. This means its a conversion possible for any avid DIY’er, providing an ample upgrade in power in the process. Chevrolet didn’t mention range, but you don’t need much in a drag race. Check out this stunning new concept in the images here and head over to Chevrolet to learn more about the concept immediately. Stay tuned for more exceptional new rides coming soon. 6

Photo’s: Craig Wise Story: Jimmy B

One of the longest running shows in the So-Cal region is the Early Times Car Club Annual Picnic. This year saw the 54th edition of this long running So-Cal favorite.

Named after the popular Kentucky whiskey, The Early Times car club was, in some sense, exactly like the liquor – potent and popular. A counterpoint to the more established L.A. Roadsters, it drew younger hot rodders such as Jake Jacobs, who worked with Ed “Big Daddy” Roth and would later found the legendary So-Cal Speed Shop.

22

Like its founders, many of Early Times’ current members started as teenagers, who couldn’t afford anything but old cars, and souped them up on the cheap by themselves, often with impressive results. Fast forward to today, the club is now a mix of retirees, real estate developers, businessmen and car-shop owners, all of the club’s members share a love of vintage hot rods and the club that was formed to celebrate them. None of the Early Times founders is still alive, but the present roster carries on many of the club’s oldest traditions. Now based in Long Beach, its meetings are still on Tuesday nights, where the most important business is deciding what car shows to attend on the weekends. For 2018, Early Times carried on the tradition started by the original founder. They’ held their annual Early Times Picnic at the Compton Rod and Gun Club – just as they’ve done every year since 1965. “Other clubs come and go,” say their members, here since 1971. “Early Times sticks around.” 23
