“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” “They banded together to form an association” In “Lost Wages” Nevada, this week, what has become an annual event, is celebrating it’s 50th birthday.
SPEED EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING ASSOC. It was named that because the guys that created SEMA ( Roy Richter, Willie Garner, Bob Hedman, Robert E. Wyman, John Bartlett, Phil Weiand, Jr., Al Segal, Dean Moon, and Vic Edelbrock, Jr.) not only manufactured speed parts, but were racers too. They banded together to form an association, that would move the industry forward. These guys were visionaries for what was needed for the hot rod hobby to survive. Today SEMA has over 6300 participating companies registered and is a very loud voice for all of us. Today its more than just selling parts, it’s that and dealing with governmental regulations too!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEMA! Many gearheads hear SEMA and think of Vegas and all the cool cars on display. Reality is, the cars and the flash are just a small part of what SEMA is really all about. SEMA was actually formed in 1963. The first actually SEMA show was held in 1967 in the lower level of Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. The first show was actually an small show with a limit4ed number of exhibitors, only because there weren’t as many companies in the aftermarket as there are today.
Check our feature article on the cars of SEMA for 2017 and HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEMA!
Today SEMA stands for Specialty Equipment Market Assoc. Originally SEMA stood for SPEED EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING ASSOC.

Every year, at GOODGUYS Rod & Custom Assoc. shows across the USA, hot rodders enter their cool rides in the various judging area’s that are set up at the events.
powerhouse and redline tires, this is one big, bad, Heavy-Chevy. It’s name is Onyx. Flawless is the only word to describe the black paint that covers the acres of sheet metal. These are big cars and this is one of the straightest ever done. All of the trim was custom fit to exacting standards, the gaps were tightened, and the bumpers were modified and tucked. A subtle chin spoiler hangs out up front.
Four of the most popular awards that come out of the judging all year, are the Truck of the Year Late, Truck of the Year Early, Muscle Machine of the Year and Muscle Car of the Year. Winning one of these awards, says a lot about the vehicle, the builder and or owner of the winners.
Being a Roadster Shop build, their custom chassis underneath Onyx is a work of art in itself. Fast Track up front, four-link out back with a Strange-filled 9-inch rear and Penske coilovers – the underpinnings give it a leg up on the competition and stiffer stability at any speed. Massive 14” Brembo brakes show between the spokes of the three-piece Forgeline RS6 wheels with their optional Flush-Loc center-lock conversion and custom knock-offs. No other tire choice would fit better than the redlines they wear.
Over the next four issues, we will feature the 4 “Of The Year” award winners from Goodguys So, without further ado…we present to you the 2016 “Muscle Machine of the Year” Award winner.—Jimmy B
The red stripes match the Relicate suede and leather interior that features a custom dash, AutoMeter gauges, a Grant steering wheel and a Hurst shifter. Jeremy Carlson from Extreme Performance handled the trimming chores.

Tom Demrovsky’s ’67 Chevelle, built in-house at Roadster Shop headquarters in Mundelein, Illinois has been named Goodguys 2016 Griot’s Garage Muscle Machine of the Year. Selected earlier this season as a top 5 finalist for Street Machine of the Year, it eclipsed all 7 contestants for the coveted Muscle Machine crown when voting took place this week. It’s perfect yet mean while being a refined super car.

General Motors brought a truckload of cool stuff including these 2 rides. The Camaro AutoX is a 4cyl TURBO project and the Chevelle Slammer just screams cool!
