“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….” make sure you have a trouble free season of gearhead fun.
Welcome to Spring 2019 my friends…
The other section that is getting populated is the CRUISE-IN page on our website. Based on what we have listed and still working on listing, it will be a good year for cruise fun all over America.
We made it...survived winter again! I know there are parts of America that are still covered with snow from a year of more snow than you want, unless you ski or snow mobile or like making snow angels. I don’t ski, sled or make snow angels...bring on the sun and some warmth. With the warmer weather coming (yea we know you gearheads in Florida, Arizona, California never got cold) to most of the USA, along with it come LOTS more to do with your cool ride. We have been compiling car shows, gearhead events and cruisein’s all winter long. We are keeping our website (www.gearheadgazzzette.com) updated every 4-5 week with a 6 month look out as to what is coming up. It is, if we say so ourselves, one of the most comprehensive listings of car shows and gearhead events anywhere. Do we have them all...no. The only reason we don’t, is because you haven't sent your event or your favorite event to us to list for you. Do you want to see the events in your area of the USA? Simply head to our website and click on the CAR SHOW button...that easy!
Get out and support these events. We know you cant go to every event or cruise-in, but go where you can. The local events in your area are mostly fund raisers and help out a charity or someone needed a hand. Before you go cruising for the season, make sure to check your ride out. Taking some time to crawl under it and over it, will make sure you have a trouble free season of gearhead fun. You only need to worry about which event am I going to next versus will me car or truck make it to the next event. One other suggestion...go somewhere you haven't been before. With all the gearhead fun there is, try something new. Make some new friends and experience something new. Who knows...it may become your new favorite event Live It Fully Everyday

UTAH VOTES $5 MILLION TO RESTORE BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS Pop the champagne! Rattle your salt shaker! It’s time to celebrate! The Utah State Legislature approved a $5 million appropriation to restore the Bonneville Salt Flats as part of the state budget. In the past few weeks, Utah legislators received upwards of 1,000 emails from the motorsports community which helped focus much needed attention on the critical funding request. The money will help support a program to restore the iconic land formation in northwestern Utah. “This marks the first public dollars appropriated to restore the depleted salt surface since the land speed racing community began its quest more than 30 year ago,” said Save the Salt Foundation Vice Chairman Tom Burkland. “This is a job well done. Land speed racers the world over say, ‘Thank You Utah!’” Lawmakers authorized the Utah Department of Natural Resources to create a “Restore Bonneville” program to increase the volume of salt being pumped onto the Bonneville Salt Flats by Intrepid Potash, Inc. Racing community representatives have worked with lawmakers, regulators and Intrepid Potash, Inc. to craft the 10-year project. Salt brine pumping levels will dramatically rise as a result of infrastructure upgrades. The racing venue should gradually expand from its current length of about 8 miles with the goal of reaching its original 13-mile length. State funds become available on July 1, 2019. Utah lawmakers made the appropriation contingent on securing a commitment for monies from outside sources. The bulk of the estimated additional $45 million needed over 10 years will come from the federal government, with contributions as well from the motorsports community. Attention will now turn to the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to appropriate funds and make commitments so that Restore Bonneville becomes a reality. The Bonneville Salt Flats is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Save the Salt Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore the Bonneville Salt Flats working with the Utah Alliance, a Utah-based organization with the same mission. The Save the Salt Coalition is an umbrella group comprised of automotive and motorsports companies and organizations with a vested interest in this national treasure. Hall & Oates Guitarist Curates ‘Cars of the Rock Stars’ Rock & roll hall of famer and long-time automotive enthusiast John Oates of the legendary duo Hall & Oates curated a special exhibit at the 2019 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in Amelia Island, Florida. Cars of the Rock Stars featured Oates' custom 1960 Emory Outlaw Porsche 356 Cabriolet alongside famous cars owned by notable musicians with some of the guitars they played. Other cars in the exhibit include Janis Joplin's Porsche 356 Cabriolet, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons’ Cadzilla Cadillac, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson’s Bentley, and Elvis Presley’s Corvette. These hand-selected cars were part of the 225 pre-1974 vehicles chosen for display at the 2019 Concours d'Elegance, held March 9-10at the Amelia Island Ritz-Carlton Hotel. "Throughout my life I have always had two major passions," Oates said, “driving cars and playing guitars. Both the machine and the instrument are paragons of inspired and purposeful design. Both tell their unique story historically and culturally. Both have their roots in the late 19th century, evolving and continuing to fascinate and excite through the 20th and now into the 21st centuries.” Oates also had several guitars from his personal collection on display. To benefit the Concours' charitable foundation, he auctioned a special Fender Player Stratocaster painted with a custom image of his Porsche 356.
Esteemed classic Porsche customizer Rod Emory—who built John Oates' Emory Outlaw 356—spearheaded the guitar project through his work using Rust-Oleum metal-prep and finishing products on Oates' car. Rust-Oleum's new electroluminescent LumiLor product is a lightemitting coating developed with Darkside Scientific. Worldwide airbrush-supply leader David Monning of Coast Airbrush teamed up with renowned artist Ryan "Ryno" Templeton to apply the image of Oates' 1960 Porsche 356 Emory Special on the Stratocaster. When a switch is flipped, the paint comes to life on the guitar. 9

Celebrating 10 years of anything these days is an accomplishment. Celebrating 10 years of an event like the MUSCLE CAR and CORVETTTE NATIONALS is quite the accomplishment. When we say accomplishment, we mean it in a great way, Setting out and starting an event like this is a challenge from the start. Building a following is even harder, even if the subject is 2 very popular types of cars...Vette’s and Muscle Cars. 2018 was the 10th Anniversary for the MUSCLE CAR and CORVETTE NATIONALS. Once again the show filled the Donald P Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont IL, right outside of Chicago. While the Midwest is known for liking their muscle cars a lot, the cars in the show came from all over the USA to show off what makes them special. No different for the “plastic fantasic’s”...aka Corvette. Not only was there plenty of cool cars to check out, the show was filled with vendors and special displays to help you get that much needed part to get your project back on track. Part of the ongoing tradition for this show, is having rotating displays yearly. For 26
2018, 1968 was up for celebration and the spotlight. There was a special Chevy II / Nova display. This was a celebration of the rebodied 1968 Chevy Nova. 1968 saw a number of new drivetrains and performance car options. Also on display were a number of COPO cars, with L78and L79-optioned cars to represent what was available in 1968..
If you are in the Chicago area, NICKEY CHEVROLET is always talked about when muscle cars are mentioned. This year there was an all Nickey Gasser Invitational display with at least 10 gassers 27
that have been built over the last 10 years for Nickey Performance. When you say CORVETTE, Zora comes up all the time. On display all weekend was a high horsepower collection of Zora’s best in the Corvette Legends display. Some of the best L88’s and Corvette racers around were in the show Other invitational displays are part of the show each year. This year saw the Mopar Rapid Transit System Caravan Cars, an Oldsmobile W-31 collection. Other cool 1968 displays included the first-year Hurst/Olds plus Hurst Hemi Darts and Barracudas, plus those cool Chevy II’s. Add in the special Buick GSX display and well you get the picture….it was a GRAND 10th ANNIVERSARY get together. MCACN will hold #11 in November of this year, so make your plans now to be part of the fun!

MAR 2019: MAR 30: CHATTANOOGA TN: CHATTANOOGA CRUISE-IN: We're proud to announce a NEW VENUE for the Chattanooga Cruise In. As cool as it was to park on the streets of downtown Chattanooga, the traffic issues caused problems each year. The limited space also meant that we had to turn people away after we filled to capacity.
That will no longer be an issue, as we are moving the Chattanooga Cruise In to Camp Jordan, and it will take place on Saturday, March 30th, 2019. The event is still FREE to the public, and we will have lots more room for cruise in participants, spectator parking, vendors and we'll even have on-site truck and trailer parking. Camp Jordan has giant paved parking lots, as well as grassy areas for overflow parking. Also on site is an Arena, which will house many of our vendors and the popular "blemished tire sale". The event time is 8am to 4pm EST, and we're expecting upward to 2,000 cars to be on hand a day of family-friendly fun! As always, we'll have event T-shirts on hand (we're ordering more than ever), and Coker Tire will have our sales crew on hand for tire, wheel and accessory purchases. This is the same great event, with more room to grow, so mark your calendars and join us for one of the largest car events in the Southeast! Stay tuned for more information and more exciting news from the Chattanooga Cruise In!
