I hear you already...give me my thumpin’ Big Block in my hot rod! I will never take it out! But really ...who will be the first to build an all electric hot rod or muscle car? It’s going to happen. Read that again… it will be built… and why not. Yes some of the OEM’s are selling all electric cars now. Step up and drive one home today. The all electric pick up truck is in the works and will be debuting before you know it. Chevrolet has an E-COPO drag race Camaro that they have run at the dragstrip.. And with very impressive numbers for speed and et too. Harley-Davidson now has the LIVEWIRE all electric motorcycle available. It makes 105 horsepower, and 116 Nm of torque, everywhere in the rev range. H-D claims it does the sprint to 60 mph in three seconds, 60-80 mph in 1.9 seconds,

With all the electric cars out there now, some are getting wrecked, so those motors (drive units) are out there. Get a wrecked TESLA and you have some serious HP in their electric motors. Why not go electric? Most folks don’t drive their cool cars a long distance so battery life wouldn't be an issue. Plenty of torque to set you back in the seat. The cars sit for more than a while between uses so charge time is not an issue. Back to the sound...whoosh vs thumpin’. Maybe a great sound system with a “BIG BLOCK TUNE on it... Behold! The New Mid– Engine Corvette Steering Wheel The new 2020 C8 Corvette won’t be revealed until July 18th. But to hold all of us over, Chevrolet is showing off the steering wheel of the eighth-generation vehicle. The photo, which Chevy teased everyone with on Friday July 12th, is just the steering wheel. Look closely though and there are hints and insights that even this single photo provides. For one, this new generation is unlike any of its predecessors. The leathered-wrapped steering wheel has the Corvette crossed flags logo as the centerpiece with two spokes. Controls are integrated into the wheel. The steering wheel has a squared-off shape with a rather large opening, which suggests that designers wanted to provide a proper view to a large digital cluster. (We’ll find out July 18th.) Corvette will make its debut at 7:30 p.m. PT July 18 in Orange County, California. The debut will also be live-streamed. The stream will include Corvette video footage, a hosted pre-show and the reveal presentation, the company has said. This Corvette is hotly anticipated because it’s, well, a Corvette. But it’s also because this one will have a mid-mounted engine — which has been rumored and speculated about for decades. Following the reveal, this new-generation Corvette will go on a U.S. roadshow, visiting some 125 dealerships (check with your local dealer to see if they are one of them). The tour will include vehicle specialists and numerous interactive displays, and customizable parts such as seats, wheels and accessories will be on display. The livestream event will open online at 10:30 p.m. EDT at media.chevrolet.com/nextgenCorvette. 8

GOODGUYS CROWNS The Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year and the PPG Street Machine of the Year Goodguys Rod & Custom Association crowned the 2 BIG winners at the 22nd Annual PPG Nationals in Columbus OH last weekend. Phil & Deb Becker won the 2019 Classic Instruments Street Rod of the Year with their FASTLANE Rod Shop built 1932 Ford Vicky. Jimmy Shaw won the 2019 PPG Street Machine of the Year with his 1971 Ford Maverick built by GREENING Auto Company.

Glory Days at Byron Dragway will replace the wildly popular Meltdown Drags which celebrated it’s ninth running in 2018. “We cannot thank our friends at Meltdown Drags Association enough for everything they’ve done for vintage drag racers and race fans,” said Byron Dragway General Manager, Randy Simpson. “Glory Days at Byron Dragway picks up where Meltdown Drags left off and continues the tradition of authentic, world class vintage drag racing.” Glory Days will embody many of the same qualities that made Meltdown Drags great but also be more inclusive by expanding beyond 1966 and older vehicles. JULY 2019: JULY 18-20: SOUIX FALLS SD: 48th BLACK HILLS CORVETTE CLASSIC: An annual event put on by the Sioux Falls Corvette Club to celebrate America’s favorite sports car. Each year over 400 Corvettes embark on the pilgrimage to join the party that is the Black Hills Corvette Classic. Starting on the eastern side of the state in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, we’ll get the party started and then caravan 400 miles west to Spearfish, South Dakota. 2019 marks the 48th year of the Classic! The event has grown from a small get-together of friends that started in 1971, to one of the premier international Corvette events. Visit Mount Rushmore, explore the Badlands, and enjoy the vistas. It’s true what they say: we come for the car, but stay for the people! The show annually draws 250-300 vehicles and 2,500-3,500 people. Judged and People's Choice trophies are awarded as well as the Armed Forces Trophy, awarded to the best car entered by an active or reserve duty military person. JULY 2019: JULY 19-21: SYRACUSE NY: 20TH ANNUAL SYRACUSE NATIONALS: Event is held at the N.Y. State Fairgrounds. The Syracuse Nationals draws nearly 95,000 people, over 650 campers and approximately 8,200 classic cars from 34 states and six Canadian provinces to the New York State Fairgrounds. The event raises money for charity, increasing the total amount of charitable donations to more than $1.4 million over the past 19 years. Throughout the week leading up to the Syracuse Nationals and during the event, volunteers from the Central New York Car Club Association work to make the event run smoothly. Right Coast Inc/The Syracuse Nationals donated $20,000 to the club which allocates those funds to their local charities of choice, including the Syracuse Lions Club, Rotary Club and the Knights of Columbus. The Syracuse Nationals, which started as an idea in the summer of 1999, has grown each year since its record-setting debut in July 2000, when more than 4,300 vehicles filled the facility. The Nationals is now one of the largest automobile shows in

the country, the largest in the Northeast, featuring street rods and custom, classic, muscle and antique cars. Sometimes changes work and then again sometimes change doesn’t. You really don’t know until you try. That’s exactly what the famed LA Roadster Club did a few years back. After 50 plus years of producing their legendary show, they made the decision to try and new way or holding the show. Putting on the show & swap meet , especially one of this size, takes a lot of people power dedicating lots of time for the event. So they made the decision to get some help with a show producer taking over running the event.

After a couple years of putting on the show with help, it became evident that things had changed and not necessarily for the better Attendance at the show actually dropped after the 1st year of the changes. Not what the LA Roadster members envisioned at all. The decision was made to return back to the original format with the LA Roadster Club running the event from start to finish. Word got out that the show was returning to it’s roots in 2019! Actually it spread worldwide. Hot rodders from around the globe reacted very positively to say the least. Hot Rodders planned their road trips for Fathers Day 2019 to Pomona. 54

Hot rodders and roadster came out by the thousands to fill the LA County Fariplex in Pomona with a rainbow of roadsters. While the beloved roadster is what this show / event is all about, more then a few hundred plus pre-72 cars and trucks came out too for the weekend. The blacktop was full of chrome, color and rubber. Let’s not forget that the other part of this event is the legendary LA Roadster swap meet. It takes place both days also. There are people who set up and bring out parts only for this swap meet. That’s way its so popular. Some gearheads come out only for the swap meet. If you walked every aisle and check out most of the swap spots it will take you 2 days plus. Impossible to find parts are always at this swap meet. Reading the many comments on various social media sites, we would have to say that this years LA Roadster Show & Swap Meet was a huge success. Who says you cant go back...the LA Roadster just proved a lot of people wrong…”THEY’RE BACK!”
