“That was the 1st Street Rod Nationals.” 50 of most anything is an awesome accomplishment...

Well guess what, they had a pretty good turnout from hot rodders all over the country, in a field in Peoria IL.

Celebrating 50 of anything is always good and generally fun. Doing 50 of anything is a true accomplishment.

That was the 1st Street Rod Nationals. At that same time because of the success of that event, the NSRA was born or formed or whatever you want to call it.

This weekend up in Louisville KY, The National Street Rod Association (NSRA) is throwing one big birthday party for the Street Rod Nationals.

Over the 50 years, the NSRA has grown, evolved, changed, been praised, got beat up, and above all else , stuck around and provided may events for hot rodders and gearheads to have fun with their cool cars and trucks.

Everyone is invited to come to the party and it’s even better if you bring your cool ride, as long as its 30 years old or older. Don’t have one that meets that rule, come out to the party anyway and you will still have a great time.

If you are at the Big Bash in LOOVille this weekend, when you see one of the NSRA officials in their NSRA shirts, stick your hand out and wish them a HAPPY 50th.

It is hard to believe that over 50 years ago, staff members of Rod & Custom Magazine (wish they would bring it back!) and some other hard core hot rodders came up with the idea to hold a national show in the middle of the USA, well almost the middle, and see what would happen.

National Corvette Museum to Celebrate 25th Anniversary The National Corvette Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation, opened in 1994 and boasts over 28,000 members with over 230,000 visitors annually. In celebration of the Museum’s 25th Anniversary, the sixth National Corvette Caravan will be held leading to festivities at the Museum August 28 -31. One of the top five automotive museums in the country, the Museum expects over 10,000 Corvette owners to convene in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the festivities. Starting from various cities throughout America, it has been dubbed the world’s largest moving automotive event. A rare occasion, the Caravan only takes place every five years to align with the Museum’s milestone anniversaries. “It’s a spectacle, especially for those unsuspecting motorists who get to experience a leg of the Caravan pass them by,” said Katie Ellison, Director of Marketing and Communications. Upon arrival in Bowling Green, participants will enjoy three days of exciting Corvette lifestyle, including a kickoff firework show and concert by Jefferson Starship on Thursday, August 29 with a Journey tribute band opening the show at 5pm CT. The public is invited to participate in the concert and fireworks, with general admission tickets priced at $25, available on the Museum’s website. The concert is included with Anniversary event registration. Other activities include touring laps at the NCM Motorsports Park, seminars lead by GM / Corvette designers and engineers, Michelin, Mobil and others, themed dinners like a ‘Party Like It’s 1994’ mixer, demonstrations and walk-around talks with the 1953 and V-12 Falconer Corvettes and 2019 Corvette Hall of Fame induction ceremony. “We want visitors to experience the unique offerings in our area, so many attractions are hosting their own special activities,” said Ellison. Check the museums website for all the activities. While many caravans and Corvette clubs are planning their own off-site activities, there will plenty to keep guests busy at the Museum. General Motors has confirmed the presence of a 2,500 square foot interactive mobile showroom to display the 2020 mid-engine Corvette Stingray and all the car’s exterior and interior options. In addition to seeing at least two examples of the highly anticipated eighth generation Corvette, the display will showcase all 12 paint color options, wheel finishes, colored brake calipers, Michelin tire options, nine interior schemes, three seat designs, six seat belt colors and more. Guests must be registered for the event to visit the special C8 display. GM Certified Corvette Technicians Paul Koerner and Brittany George will be on-site, offering walk up assistance and seminars, vendors, including Xpel, the official paint protection and window tint provider of the event, will offer installation services. The Corvette Store will welcome more than a dozen Store Partners, offering an array of wares, apparel, car care products, art, aftermarket parts and more. Thanks to several of the Bowling Green hotels, carnival-style activities will be available, including mini golf, for registered guests to participate in. While pre-registration closed on July 11, on-site registration will be available starting Tuesday, August 27. Registration is $35 for Lifetime Museum Members, $45 for Members and $70 for NonMembers for the three-day event. Speedtech Performance Subframe And Spindle For Camaro And Nova When it comes to a muscle car’s personality, most enthusiasts focus on looks and horsepower. That’s not a bad thing. But, not many realize there is another upgrade that can really improve your hot rod, and that’s handling. For you drag-race guys, lightening your car is also a huge concern. Speedtech Performance has been supplying muscle car parts to hot rodders for years. The company has recently expanded its offerings to include drag-race-specific front subframes for ’67 through ’69 Camaro and ’68 through ’72 Nova. This new tubular frontend can be bolted to the firewall for ease of installation and includes large diameter chromoly upper and lower control arms. The subframe is compatible with factory or Speedtech aluminum spindles and comes complete with billet steering arms and adjustable bumpsteer. Front- and mid-engine plates are included to help lock a high-horsepower engine in place. Most headers can fit in the subframe assembly, making it easy to transfer an existing package over to the Speedtech setup. The front shocks are designed for drag racing with adjustable compression and rebound. This delivers better control at launch. A lightweight rack-and-pinion steering setup is also included in the complete package. The caster and stagger are adjustable through the lower control arm position for better staging and high-speed stability.
