…”The print industry is a tough one…” I still like holding a newspaper or magazine to read it…..

hate hearing this happen. Seeing this announcement on various social media sites really caught us and many others by surprise... “I regret to inform you that after 16 years, Rod & Kulture is stopping the presses” .

In this all digital age, I for one still like reading a newspaper that is on paper and not a computer screen. In the morning a cup of coffee and the paper gets the day started right for me.

Rod & Kulture had a great vibe with cool cars and trucks in it each issue. Hate to see this one die off.

Same thing with a magazine (car magazines are the best...right?) for me. Getting a new issue for one of my subscriptions in the ol’ mailbox always brightens the day up nicely.

Further on in the announcement of the end of R & K was this…”The print industry is a tough one. If you have a favorite magazine, show them support by subscribing, buying merch, and ordering direct from the publisher.”

I say this as I prepare this weeks issue of a digital magazine. Ironic right??

Take that last statement to heart! Think about how many magazine and publications have disappeared over the past 5 years or so. Whether we like to hear it, it comes down to $$ to keep it going.

For us it’s a cost factor. A “hard copy” version of the Gearhead Gazzette would be great to have each week for all of you. It takes about 100K of you to subscribe and pay a per issue price or a whole ot more advertisers helping out. We would love to do it, but it isn't in the cards right now.

If you have a favorite or 2 publications, or even your local newspaper, re-new your subscription when the notice comes...you will be glad you did!

This very problem is causing some of our favorite automotive publications to struggle and in some cases have to make a tough decision to go out of production altogether...and we

Bullitt Mustang movie car heads to Mecum Florida auction in 2020 Yes, the actual 1968 Ford Mustang fastback driven by Steve McQueen If you ever wanted to own one of the greatest pieces of automotive Hollywood history, now’s your chance, especially if you’re a fan of Steve McQueen’s "Bullitt." For the first time in history, the original Highland Green 1968 Ford Mustang fastback driven by McQueen himself will cross Mecum’s auction in Kissimmee, Fla., in January 2020. Yes, we’re talking about the actual car used in the movie and not some replica or mockup. For years, the whereabouts of the original Bullitt Mustang were unknown. It had disappeared from the public eye. Rumor had it the car was even destroyed at some point. But it resurfaced in January 2018 after decades, coming out of the woodwork and making a grand appearance during the 2018 Detroit Auto Show alongside the launch of the latest Bullitt tribute model based on the current Mustang. It has since made various appearances through the media following its reintroduction at Cobo Center, showing up at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and even appearing on an episode of "Jay Leno’s Garage." The original Bullitt Mustang movie car is one of two cars used for filming. The primary car changed hands after serving duty while making the film, eventually ending up in the collection of Bob Kiernan. It was under Kiernan’s ownership that Steve McQueen himself attempted to purchase the car multiple times but failed. Though despite hanging onto the car, Kiernan did his part in maintaining the car’s all-original, unrestored condition. The other, a secondary stunt double, resurfaced somewhere in Mexico not too long ago, but with a rebuilt engine and unoriginal bodywork. Kiernan died a few years ago, but his son, Sean, continued preserving the car in its unrestored state to maintain its authenticity. He also managed to keep its original 390 cubic-inch V-8 running, using as many original parts as possible. Mecum’s auction in Kissimmee will feature the car Jan. 2-12 next year. Although there’s no estimate floating around as to how much it could sell for, Mecum believes that it might just take the title as the most expensive muscle car to cross its block. 8

Mopar shows off 707-horsepower 'Hellvedere' at event before Dream Cruise A selection of eye candy was parked Friday outside the Vinsetta Garage as cruisers in their hot rods rolled down Woodward Avenue a day before the Woodward Dream Cruise. The scene was expected. Vinsetta, with its classic garage atmosphere and key location in Berkley, is a popular spot, especially the weekend of the annual Dream Cruise. The parked rides, however, were of a more unexpected variety. Concepts, including a 2016 Dodge "Shakedown" Challenger and a 2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn "Low Down"; and a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere II re-imagined as a 707-horsepower "Hellvedere" were on display to show off Mopar's offerings. Also, there was a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon "Nacho," which was a "rolling catalog" of Mopar accessories, featuring everything from air-friendly 2-inchround tube doors to 8,000 lumen brush guard-mounted LED lights (powerful enough to light up a football field and a half, according to team member Manny Kapoor). The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles parts brand is riding high, Mark Bosanac, head of Mopar service, parts and customer care in North America, told a group of journalists waiting to take some of the special offerings out for a spin. "We've got some of the hottest products in the marketplace right now," Bosanac said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Why do we do this? ... I think itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s because people want to continue to personalize themselves," Bosanac said, noting the popularity of tattoos and social apps and that that extends to vehicles as well. "People are personalizing and almost branding themselves." And when given the opportunity, Mopar's team adds some of its own branding.

The Shakedown, at 485 horsepower, was a blast to drive on Woodward, but the light turquoise Hellvedere, which as a Belvedere was part of FCA's Historical Vehicle Collection, might have been even more fun. It's got both a 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine and "classic" handling, thanks in part to a steering wheel a fraction of the girth of the modern variety and some other old-school attributes. "While capable of eye-catching acceleration, the Hellvedere can easily tackle daily driver duties following the installation of power steering and four-wheel disc brake systems," according to Mopar. The Hellvedere's look and its "deep, throaty" exhaust note clearly caught the attention of a few onlookers out to see the sights Friday on Woodward. 9
