“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

What changed? Something did! Where have all the race fans gone???

Ticket prices are up. Food and beverage prices are WAY UP. Hotels and parking are way up too. Take a family of four and you are shelling out multiple hundreds of dollars for 1 day at the race track. That watching on TV is looking better right about now!

Like many of you, I tuned into the recent NASCAR Race at the “BRICKYARD”. Was it just me or did you see ALL THE EMPTY SEATS in the stands!!!??

The other thing that has changed is the race format and the championship format. Now we have segments of a race versus 500 miles straight thru at top speed. To be the NASCAR CHAMPION use to be based on points, now you have to qualify to make the playoffs. Does the best team and driver really win the championship?? I would say no.

I was shocked to see the empty seats at this race. For years when NASCAR first went to INDY to race, which was a BIG DEAL and created much controversy, (how dare they race “STOCK CARS” at Indy) the stands were filled to capacity with standing room only tickets being sold. Front stretch, the corners and the back stretch, they were a sea of humanity.

Somebody in the upper levels of NASCAR designed something like a video game. Guess what...most of the people who can afford to go to races and would like to, don’t want to watch a video game in person. Add in that all the cars look the same except for the wrap on the car and it’s called boring all the way around.

Fast forward to 2019 and NO ONE was sitting on the back stretch and the rest of the place had seats available.

What changed? Something did! Television coverage is the same. Different races get different coverage and Indy got a lot of “TV time” because it is Indy.

Someone should start a nostalgia GRAND NATIONAL Race deal...you would have enough seas for the fans who would come out!

One thing that definitely changed is the cost of going to a race...hang on to your wallets race fans!

Live It Fully Everyday 5

Jimmy B.

SEMA Ignited 2019 Invites Public To Car Show Afterparty In Vegas For more than half a century, one of the traditional highlights of the SEMA Show has never really been part of the actual show. We’re talking about the real-time SEMA roll-out experience, where Las Vegas car fans line the streets to witness the most stunning cars, trucks, and race vehicles ripping out of the Las Vegas Convention Center all while breathing in sweet race gas fumes. The finale of the SEMA Show never had any official designation until a few years ago when SEMA management packaged it up into an automotive afterparty and so, SEMA Ignited was born. SEMA Ignited 2019 may be the sixth-annual running of the outdoor car event, but having been every year, we can confirm the level of entertainment rises every year. Sure SEMA knows how to organize show halls, provide education, set up and tear down of an aftermarket performance show, but what do they know about an afterparty? Apparently a lot since attendance numbers, caliber of vehicles, show features, and vendors continue to go nextlevel for quantity and quality. “There is something for everyone at SEMA Ignited, and all auto enthusiasts and consumers are invited to attend,” said Chris Kersting, SEMA President and CEO. “SEMA Ignited is a great opportunity for [fans] to connect with the unique builds and products from the SEMA Show.” Kersting couldn’t be more correct, because every year it’s becoming increasingly difficult to get into the SEMA Show. The show is for trade and media only, so SEMA is taking many steps to ensure the sold-out 4-day event isn’t crowded with tourists versus industry professionals. SEMA Ignited is one of the best-bang-for-the-buck shows anyone will ever see in Vegas for less than the price of an Aria hotel cocktail. The base ticket price is only $20, but the VIP pass with a free T-shirt and prime seating is $75. After day-four of working the SEMA Show, we know show-goers are ready to crawl into a casket voluntarily but remind our fellow pros that SEMA Ignited is free for SEMA badge holders. Be sure to hit up the Las Vegas Convention Center – Platinum Lot on November 8, 2019, to watch it all go down. For what to expect from this SEMA Show 2019 after-party, have a look at the SEMA Ignited site. 8

C8 Mid– Engine 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible to Debut October 2 GM announced Monday (Sept 9) that it will debut the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette convertible on Oct. 2, finally giving the world its first official look at the drop-top variant of the game-changing C8. Chevy teased the convertible when the coupe was revealed back in July, but it wasn't until early September that a timeline was given for the convertible's introduction. With a teaser video posted on Facebook Monday, GM finally gave us a firm date. The reveal will take place at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Merritt Island, Florida. While the biggest news for the C8-generation Corvette is the placement of its 495horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8 behind the driver's seat, it appears that GM has more tricks up its sleeve for the convertible variant of the iconic American sports car. Based on the teaser photos that have come out, we know the new Corvette sports a sleek flying-buttress design behind the roll-over structure and on the lid that covers the top stowage area. What's hiding under there? If rumors are to be believed, it's a power-retractable hardtop, which would be another first for the Corvette nameplate. The design appears to eliminate the clear cover over the engine on the coupe. Chevrolet said that the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette coupe will start at $59,995 (including destination), and while pricing for the convertible has not yet been announced, we're willing to bet that it will start around $65,000. The outgoing Corvette convertible's premium over the coupe is $4,500, and we expect that to hold relatively steady for the C8. It also remains to be seen what sort of weight penalty the convertible will carry. The additional structure for the C7 convertible resulted in a roughly 60-pound penalty. Depending on the materials used in the C8's top, the weight difference could be more or less than that. All of us probably won't get all of these answers on Oct. 2, but we're hoping GM will provide at least a few new insights when the C8 convertible officially bows. 9

Radiator Hoses If you ever tried to just cut a bit of radiator hose off, you will find it’s difficult to do and get a nice straight cut. Here’s what I do. Find a piece of PVC tube that fits snug into the hose. This gives it support during the cut. Place it on a bandsaw and cut thru. You can also use a hacksaw if you pay attention to cutting it straight. Now you’re ready to install and clamp it.

Dick Raczuk is a long time Hot Rodder as well as having created and owned KERKER Mufflers and now owns KOUL TOOLS. 34
