“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”
“take a kid to a car show!” This time of year the indoor car show scene starts to crank up….
the gearhead fever. My dad took me to the Indoor Rod & Custom show many many years ago at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago. I can remember to this day the impression it made on me to see all those shiny cool looking cars that glistened under the spot lights. As I have touched on in the past right here. We need to get more young men and women involved and excited about our hobby...our passion. We are an OLD hobby by participant age. As I have said before, just look around the next event you go to, look at the amount of gray hair and beards at the event. Now don't get me wrong, every hobby and organization needs some wisdom and knowledge to pass on. Those gray haired gearheads have a lot to offer and pass on about our hobby. The problem is there are no a lot of young people to pass the knowledge on to. Take the time to show a kid what kind of fun we have…. Live It Fully Everyday
As the cool fall temps start to turn even cooler and cold in some places, the outside car show events wind down for the year in the majority of the USA. Some area’s of the country see events run thru the winter months as the temps are still warm enough to hold these events. Indoor car shows have been taking place for a very long time! Shows like the Grand National Roadster Show and the Detroit Autorama are 2 of the oldest in the USA. The interest in gearheads showing off their cool rides and spectator participation remains at a high level which say s we gearheads enjoy going to these shows. Indoor shows fill our gearhead need in the cold months when we cant take our cars & trucks out of the garage and enjoy them. When you go to one of the indoor shows close to you or in your town, do your self a favor and all of us too by taking a kid with you. Light that fire in someone young like it was done for you. I know that’s how I got

RPM Act Reintroduced in the U.S. Senate SEMA President & CEO Chris Kersting today praised U.S. Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) along with 24 original cosponsors for reintroducing S. 2602, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2019 (RPM Act). This bipartisan bill aims to protect Americans’ right to convert street vehicles into dedicated racecars and the motorsports parts industry’s right to sell products that enable racers to compete. The RPM Act confirms that transforming motor vehicles into racecars used exclusively for competition does not violate the Clean Air Act. In 2015, the EPA took the position that converted street vehicles that compete on the track must remain emissions-compliant, even though they are not driven on public streets or highways. The EPA also maintains that the equipment used to transform a street vehicle into a racecar is prohibited. “SEMA looks forward to working with Congress to enact the RPM Act and make permanent the Clean Air Act’s original intention that race vehicle conversions are legal,” said Kersting. “We thank Senators Burr and Manchin for reintroducing a bill that will protect businesses that produce, install and sell the parts that enable racers to compete." The RPM Act cleared several major legislative hurdles in the previous Congress, including passage by the U.S. House Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee. The bill also received hearings in both the House and Senate, which underscored the importance of motorsports as a great American pastime and economic stimulus in communities across the country. Lawmakers were able to find a pathway to consensus on the language of the bill last session, positioning it to become law in the 2019-2020 Congress. “American racing runs on traditions,” said Senator Burr. “For more than 50 years, motorsports enthusiasts have purchased cars and modified them to race, off of public roads. However, this tradition was threatened when the Obama EPA attempted to make these modifications illegal. This legislation upholds Congress’ intent of the Clean Air Act and protects motorsports, for professionals and amateurs alike, for years to come. I’m proud to work with my colleagues on this bipartisan legislation, and I look forward to seeing it move through the Senate.” Motorsports competition involves tens of thousands of participants and vehicle owners each year, both amateur and professional. Retail sales of racing products make up a nearly $2 billion market annually. A majority of the estimated 1,300 racetracks operating across the U.S., including oval, road, dirt and off-road tracks, feature converted race vehicles that the EPA now considers to be illegal. “A big part of the fun of motorsports is the tradition of modifying regular cars into racecars,” said Senator Manchin. “This legislation upholds amendments to the Clean Air Act that exempt modified vehicles and racecars from certain environmental regulations, protecting motorsports for years to come. I am proud to be a part of this bipartisan bill and look forward to the boost it will give to motorsports.” To write a letter to your U.S. Senators, visit www.sema.org/rpm. 6
Pep Boys to Sponsor Toys for Tots PEP Boys has announced it is now a national sponsor of Toys for Tots, the program run by U.S. Marines which gives gifts to less fortunate children. Starting Nov. 4, Toys for Tots donation bins will be in service waiting areas of Pep Boys locations throughout the country where customers can donate new, unwrapped toys. Pep Boys corporate offices and distribution centers will also have bins so the company’s 22,000 employees can also participate. “Pep Boys has long been a part of our local communities and a supporter of our nation’s military. As a national service network, a partnership with the Marine Toys for Tots Program was a perfect fit to contribute to the community and bring joy to children during the holiday season,” said Brian Kaner, CEO-Service. “We know our employees, customers, and neighbors will give generously to this much-loved tradition, and we’re looking forward to helping to make the holidays happy for children in need.” As a corporate sponsor, Pep Boys has committed a $25,000 donation and, over the next two months, employees will work with dedicated U.S. Marines and Toys for Tots volunteers in their areas to collect and distribute toys. Pep Boys teams will be holding local donation drives and events, including car shows and cruise-ins where admission will include a Toys for Tots donation.
