“ Ya Gotta know where to Go….The FUN Starts Here….”

“having nothing but gearhead fun” The GNRS is what brings us all together this time of year. It

Head West Young Man, California is the place you ought to be...

brings a LOT of hot rodders to Southern California! Hot rodders come from all over the globe to be part of the GNRS. It has that kind of drawing power. It’s not just the roadsters vying for the AMBR trophy that brings us to So-Cal, it’s the whole event all weekend long. As our good friend Larry dubbed it…”It’s like a “Car Carnival”! So much going on all weekend long.

As you open this up this issue, we have headed out to the West Coast. We’re headed to the next stop on our 2019 Winter Road Tour. It’s Grand National Roadster Show time again...and we can’t wait. One of the best parts about this trip is traveling with great friends and spending a long (6 day) weekend with them having nothing but gearhead fun. The other part that is great, is being with like minded friends that we have made over the years, going out to the GNRS and other events in California. As we have said, like many others, the cars are just pieces of steel and the people are what make them special.

If you’re on Facebook or Instagram or check us out over the weekend starting Thursday as we will be posting lots of pics from the show all weekend long.

Live It Fully Everyday

Jimmy B.

“the fun starts here”….

The Grand National Roadster Show, the world’s longest running indoor car show, announced today it will name Chip Foose as Builder of the Decade at its 2019 event, taking place January 25-27, 2019 at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. This honor will include a display of 10 of the most iconic Foose-designed vehicles ever built. Chip Foose has earned widespread acclaim for his career in hot rod design, both for his work with noted hot rod builder Boyd Coddington and for his own workshop, Foose Design, which he founded in 1998. His hit TV series “Overhaulin’” ran for nine seasons, bringing hot rodding and car customization to a wide audience. Foose-built and Foose-designed vehicles have won many accolades over the years, including eight America’s Most Beautiful Roadster titles–1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2014. “We couldn’t be happier to honor Chip Foose as our Builder of the Decade,” said John Buck, the show’s producer. “There are few people who have had as much influence or popularity in the hot rod and custom car industry as Chip Foose. He’s certainly deserving of this award.” Among the Foose vehicles on display will be the 2000 America’s Most Beautiful Roadster-winning 1932 Ford Roadster “0032,” the 2006 America’s Most Beautiful Roadster-winning 1936 Ford Roadster “Impression,” the 1935 Chevrolet Master Two-Door Sedan “Grandmaster” owned by Chevrolet dealership owner Wes Rydell, the 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air “Cool Air,” the WWII fighter plane-inspired 1932 Ford Roadster “P-32,” the original Foose Design coupe “Hemisfear,” Foose’s personal customized 1956 Ford F-100 pickup truck, the 1939 Cadillac coupe “Madam X” based on original 1939 General Motors design sketches, the 1933 Ford Coupe “Ron Brown Coupe” and the 1932 Ford-based Muroc Roadster built for supercharger pioneer Jerry Magnuson “Magnatude.” Chip Foose will be at the Grand National Roadster Show for the entirety of the three day event (January 25-27, 2019) while he will be honored in a special ceremony during the awards presentation on Sunday, January 27, 2019. 8

Tecumseh, Michigan: IDIDIT, LLC, a company celebrating more than 30 years manufacturing aftermarket steering solutions, has purchased Schroeder Steering as it positions itself for another record-breaking sales year in 2019. Schroeder Steering is a California-based manufacturer of quick release steering hubs and steering boxes. The early 2018 acquisition included all inventory, machines, castings, molds, prints, specifications, and original tooling owned by Schroeder – along with 75 years of manufacturing knowledge to be implemented at IDIDIT, LLC’s Tecumseh, Michigan facility. IDIDIT was also given immediate full and exclusive authorization to continue the production of the quick release and steering box products by Gary Schroeder, founder of Schroeder Steering. New SFI-certified IDIDIT Performance Quick Release Steering Hubs are already in production and available through IDIDIT. The company is now beginning production of the new IDIDIT Performance Steering Box – based on the proven engineering of Schroeder’s original design. They are expected to be available for purchase in Q2 of 2019. Customers who have already purchased the Schroeder Steering box can contact IDIDIT for technical questions and assistance. “Since we have the inventory and tooling in-house, we are able to tear down, inspect and repair any original Schroeder steering box.” Trever Cornwell of IDIDIT said. If a customer owns a Schroeder steering box that has been involved in a collision, or is suspected of having damage, they can send the steering box to IDIDIT for inspection. For an inspection fee of $100, the IDIDIT team will tear it down and check for damage. If a repair is needed an estimate will be provided. If the customer authorizes the repair, the inspection fee will be applied to those repair costs. If no repairs are necessary, the fee will cover costs of reassembly and shipping back to the customer. For more information on the IDIDIT Performance Quick Release Steering Hubs, IDIDIT Performance Steering Boxes, or the repair of the Schroeder Steering Box, please contact the IDIDIT Sales Staff at 517-424-0577, or to view information on all IDIDIT products to meet your steering needs visit the IDIDIT website at www.ididit.com.

Pleasanton….such a happy, friendly sounding name for a town. Hot rodders and gearheads from across the USA and outside the USA also know it as simply…”P” Town.

Pleasanton California is home base for the GOODGUYS (www.good-guys.com) organization and also a number of events they host there. There is only one WEST COAST Nationals though, the CROWN JEWEL of all the GOOGUYS events. It’s the 2nd oldest, longest running event on their yearly schedule. This 3 day event brings hot rodders from across the USA and elsewhere to “P-Town”. The West Coast Nationals are held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, which in our humble opinion is one of the nicest places to hold an event like this . Plenty of shade, paved roadways on the fairgrounds, easy in and out from multiple points and great weather too!

28

The West Coast Nationals kicked off early, as it has for many years, with HOT ROD WEEK taking place Mon—Thr prior to the actual event. Set up by the GOODGUYS Staff, HOT ROD WEEK features a different driving event each day, stopping at some of the coolest “car guy/gal” places in Northern California.

Thursday night at the host hotel saw the kickoff event take place right in the parking lot and hotel too. Time to chill, enjoy your favorite beverage and check out all those cool rides parked everywhere!

The event has all the things that gearheads want at an event. Swap meet, car corral, cruising the fairgrounds, 29

Add in the Tether Car Display/ Demonstrations, the Bay Area Engine Modelers showing off those small scale motors running, pedal car display, and you have plenty to see and do all weekend long. The Danville Dukes hold their Shadetree Social on Friday afternoon and having been before, it’s not something you want to miss! Plenty of GOODGUY awards as they are know for and at Pleasanton, and Goodguys crowns one entry, America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod. For 2018 America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod was awarded to Robert Anderson’s 1936 Pontiac known as “Pindian”. Built at Legends Hot Rod Shop in Martin TN, this cool hot rod bested all of the sweet rides vying for the title. Put this event on your TO DO list...you wont be disappointed at al! FOR SALE: One Well Used and Speed Proven Wind Tunnel. Who doesn’t need a bit more shaving on the old laminar flow? Not you? Well, how about that hot rod racer down the lane who might have a genuine use for it? No? Think of what great gift this would make to your local university and you’d have a stellar write-off! Originally built by a guy out of sheer curiosity about how aero stuff works and had the spare change to do it really right. Life has downshifted and the spot he had the tunnel installed is no longer available. This tunnel has improved the speeds and records of several dozen land speed cars including George Poteet’s Speed Demon that lays down wicked quick 400+MPH runs on the Bonneville Salt Flats. It is a first-class system with operational credibility and plenty of cheerful grateful testimonials. But wait, there’s more! The owner/builder/operator will put the thing back into full operational form so how can you resist a turn-key deal? Do your diligence and you will quickly realize there is more than a million invested. That’s a whole lotta McKinley's ($500), Cleveland's ($1,000), Madison's ($5,000), and Chase's ($10,000) beside the Franklin’s and Grants. The tunnel is an open circuit, Eiffel style. It was professionally designed and calibrated. Test results show repeatable numbers with less than 1% deviation between runs. The wind tunnel began construction in 2010. It took approx. 4800 man-hours to complete over a two+ year period not including building construction or the pit under the test section of the tunnel. The tunnel is 100' long and 20'+ high at the inlet end. The test section is shaped and approx. 9'-4" high in the center and 13'-6" wide, and 50' long. The three fans are built by Howden and are 150 HP each, 460V, and are 6' in diameter. The fans are controlled by a Mitsubishi Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) with remote controller in the control room. The fans pull air through the test section then the air recirculates in the room. Wind speed in the tunnel varies from about 10mph to 80mph depending on the desired speed and the shape and size of the test object. Test object should not exceed 25 sq. ft. in frontal area for most accurate test results. This is the size of a full size car. The VFD has incremental speed control for accurate airflow around the test object. Under the floor of the test section is a pit which houses the balance. The pit is accessible by a staircase opposite the control room. The balance is a large space frame and is mounted to Honeywell load cells which are designed to hold up to a 10,000 lb. vehicle. There are seven load cells which measure lift, drag, and side forces. All forces are calculated and recorded in an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet displays coefficients for all six forces and moments. It also calculates all forces in Drag HP, Drag LBs, Total Lift, Lift Front and Rear LBs, and Side LBs, all at a customer selected mph. There is also a bicycle balance for testing cyclists and equipment. This balance was used to test 2000 elite cyclists. Airflow is measured by 3 pitot tubes in the inlet and 2 static ports in the aft portion of the test section which feed to a pressure transducer panel. Air turbulence is eliminated by a 3" thick aluminum honeycomb panel in the fore part of the test section. Plastic netting was added for better control. Vehicles enter the tunnel through a hinged door in the aft of the tunnel next to the fans. The current room dimensions are 49' wide, 140' long, and 35' high. A lower ceiling will be acceptable. Included in the sale: Complete wind tunnel structure from the inlet to the fan diffusers. Mitsubishi VFD. Balance with load cells and complete wiring to the control room. Bicycle balance platform with Computrainer installed. Ski Jumper beam. A large variety of car mounting stands. Complete computer system with Windows OS. Data Acquisition System including 13 pressure channels with pressure taps to the pit. Aerolab smoke generator wand. The buyer will be responsible for the building and the balance pit, all of which will be dimensionally specified in the sale. At an additional cost, I can assemble everything on the new site for a "turn key" operation including training of new operator. The complete wind tunnel will be broken down and palletized to ship. Reconstruction will take approx. 2-3 months when the building is ready. The electrical wiring of the fans and control room will have to be done professionally on site.. Approximate cost to construct in 2010, not including the building or pit: $400,000 package cost for design plans, computer hardware, software, Data Acquisitions System, bicycle balance, smoke wand. 115,000 fans with inlet bells. 30,000 VFD . 80,000 materials. 210,000 building preparation including the pit and electrical. 230,000 labor. Price: $600K For more info
