Not just a parts hauler…..ROUSH Nitemare ROUSH’s extreme street performance truck is set to launch, but don’t call it a bad dream. It’s named the Nitemare. The upfitted F-150 truck features a ROUSH TVS R2650 Supercharger and aesthetic upgrades. One available option allows customers to add a soft tonneau cover by Extang. The 2019 ROUSH Nitemare produces 650 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque from the combination of the ROUSH TVS R2650 Supercharger system and Ford’s 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8. This pairing offers an increase of 255 horsepower and 210 lb-ft pounds of torque over stock. ROUSH also includes a bold-sounding performance exhaust system with side exits to complete the custom look. The 2019 Nitemare also offers the option to upgrade to an ROUSH’s advanced Active Exhaust system. The Active Exhaust system uses electronicallyactuated exhaust valves to give drivers the option between touring, sport, wide-open and custom modes on the go via a mobile app or console-mounted switch. The Active Exhaust mobile application allows owners to completely customize their truck’s sound based on rpm, vehicle speed, and accelerator position. Aesthetic features of the 2019 Nitemare include a signature front grille with accent lighting, a custom front bumper cover, and new sport lowering kit. The ROUSH graphics package with an optional accent color is inspired by ROUSH’s rich motorsports history and offers a custom sporty look. Black 22-inch ROUSH wheels wrapped in Continental CrossContact LX20 285/45R22 tires ensure both grip and style. Upgrades to the interior include an optional leather package, molded floor liners by WeatherTech, and a serialized console badge. 8

Time flies when you’re having fun! 70 years disappeared in the blink of an eye. Back in 1949, in Oakland California, a gentleman by the name of Al Slonaker was preparing for his first automobile show at the Oakland Exposition, an Oakland California area hot rod club convinced him to exhibit ten of their cars at the show. The next year, 1950, Slonaker decided to focus on just the hot rods but concerned over press, and it was instead called the "Roadster Show.”

America’s Most Beautiful Roadster #1, the Bill Niekamp Roadster On display from the Petersen Museum Collection for the 70th GNRS

In 1967, the show moved to the Oakland Coliseum. From 1998 until 2003, it was held at a variety of other San Francisco Bay Area venues, including the 50th at the famed COW PALACE. Starting in 2004, the show moved and since then it has been held in Pomona California at the Fairplex. Kudo’s to the ROD SHOWS team led by John Buck for growing the show and making it better in so many ways. The very first America’s Most Beautiful Roadster trophy went to the Bill Niekamp blue roadster. While some may see it as simple compared to todays entries, make no mistake it was top notch in 1950, and 22

still so very cool even today. Fast forward to 2019 and the 70th Grand National Roadster Show, and what a show it was! This year had a much more diverse field of 14 entries going for the BIG trophy. All worthy candidates to be crowned America’s Most Beautiful Roadster for 2019. The AMBR cars and competition are held in Building 4 at the Fairplex. The building was packed from the time the gates opened until the final trophy was awarded. People walking around were trying to pick a winner. People in the industry as they say, were also pontificating on who the big winner would be on Sunday. Favorites and many peoples pick to win was the 3 Penny Roadster and also the Moal-Howerton special. Very close in the discussions was the cool mint green Phaeton and the beautiful candy apple red/burgundy 33 roadster. All very worthy.

judging is different from other car show judging because of what takes place on Wednesday. After it was all said and done, the last award of the day on Sunday at the GNRS is the AMBR award. Excitement was high and when the winner was read, the 3 Penny Roadster owned by George Poteet and built by Pinkee’s Rod Shop were the winner to America’s Most Beautiful Roadster for 2019.

The AMBR judging team had a very tough job to pick the best roadster for the AMBR. Much of the judging was done on Wednesday set up day. That is the judging team looks the entries over in detail. This is done BEOFRE the car gets into the display. They look at how the car sits, sounds, works, everything must work, run, move forward and backward, turn...just as a car should. The AMBR
