If it’s the end of February, that means it time to head north to “DEE-Troit.”

In 1964 the Don Ridler Memorial became a part of the Autorama and has grown into an award that car builders strive for. Only 1 can win it and if you do, both as a car owner and builder, you are in a very exclusive group of people.

The last weekend in February is DETROIT AUTORAMA time in the Motor City. As I write this, all the weather folks are calling for anywhere from 3 to 8 inches of wet snow on Wednesday and Thursday in Detroit. Wednesday and Thursday are set up days in Cobo Hall, for all the gearheads bringing cars, trucks and motorcycles in to show. YUCK!!! For a lot of us that have shown cars indoors over the years in the northern climante, this does happen from time to time. All part of it.

The RIDLER Award is just 1 part of this how. Add in Autorama Extreme or as its also know “The Basement”, over 700 cars, trucks and motorcycles on display and a whole lot more, and you can see why snow or no snow the crowds come out to see the show! When you hit 43 years, everyone says you are creeping into middle age range in life. Some would say it’s prime time in life too. One of the biggest West Coast car shows turned 43 in 2019. NSRA held it’s 43rd Annual Western Street Rod Nationals in Bakersfield, CA.. NSRA bumped up eligibility for entries to 1988 and older in 2019. This is a good thing as it expands participants eligibility for the event, bringing in more cool rides. According to the Bakersfield Car Club Council, it’ was a big event for little ‘ol Bakersfield. “Street rods, Hot rods, Vintage vehicles, Rat rods, Trucks, Customs, Muscle Cars and Street Machines both foreign and 16

domestic were on hand at the Kern County Fairgrounds, as the National Street Rod AssociationÂŽ presented its 43rd Annual Western Street Rod Nationals. 2019 was the 32nd time the NSRA Western Street Rod Nationals has been held in Bakersfield and an all time high number of participants and spectators showed up for all the fun .

Almost all of the Kern County Fairgrounds were utilized for the event as well as many of the buildings, which will housed a large number of manufacturer and dealer displays and other attractions.

Included in this event were muscle cars, 17

factory produced high horsepower machines from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s along with the classics cars of the 50’s. This is truly unique mix of old and new together again at the Kern County Fairgrounds and a national gathering of fine vintage automobiles of every description. The NSRA Western Street Rod Nationals is the area’s largest automotive participation event and spectators from around the area attended the event. The NSRA Western Street Rod Nationals is an excellent event for spectators to attend and those who took time to attend were treated to the sights and sounds of some of the most beautiful, best constructed vintage vehicles ever assembled in one place. One of the special attractions for the spectators is that they could walk right up to the vehicles and check each one out close up as they were not roped-off or otherwise confined. All were in the open and could be examined top to bottom, front to back, inside and out. While the exquisite paint and other features of the cars were not be touched, spectators were free to look to their heart’s content.
