direct sunlight. Personally I have seen more then a few folks fall out at a summer car show. We get wound up having fun, that we fail to take care of ourselves. Don’t let that happen to you! You don’t want to cruise the fairgrounds or show site from the inside of an ambulance.

We’re saying good bye to July with this issue and HELLO to August. As I have said in the past many times… the year is flying by at a rapid rate. This time of year has many great events and cruise-in’s going on all over the USA. Make sure to take advantage of these events as they will be over before we know it. Also with this time of year we have to be very careful with the weather and the heat factor. August is a HOT HOT HOT month across most of America. Heat tends to affect older folks (that means me and a lot of you reading this too), and even younger folks too. No one is immune to the affects of high heat, high humidity and many hours out in the

Do your friends a favor, keep an eye on them. We all say we’ll be ok, but BAM before you know it hits you and hard. Like the doctors and EMS folks will tell you...DRINK LOTS OF WATER during the day. It does make a difference. If you feel a little dizzy or out of sorts, sit down and grab a cold bottle of water and put it on the back of your neck. It will help start to cool you down. Head inside of a cool building if available or get into some shade to help yourself. Don’t be ashamed to ask for help!! Nothing wrong with this and depending if you have heat exhaustion or worse heat stroke coming on, it could SAVE YOUR LIFE. At the end of the day we all have family and friends that want us to come home, so don’t let them down and ASK FOR HELP! Cooler with water—Check, hat with a brim—Check, some sun screen—Check...go have some gearhead fun….

“Bonneville’s Women of Land Speed Racing” Ladies. . . .(and some fellows who have helped, or are inclined to. . . ) The dates are set! I will dual-debut “Bonneville’s Women of Land Speed Racing” on the salt and ask all of you to consider joining me for one, or both big bash book signing. 1st: Tuesday, August 31st during the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2nd: Saturday, September 11th during the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association’s World of Speed event. At this point in time, I have confirms from about 20 gals for each event, who are wither racing, or coming to the salt just to help inscribe a rather special marker in the historical timeline. Imagine if we could double that! I not only want to see you all there, but I want you to see each other, meet each other, learn about each other and connect with each other — without being enfolded into other duties, responsibilities, or conflicts. When I started this book project, I was certain I could track down about 150 gals in helmets and record books over 70 years. The book went to press with 307 names, but I am still collecting data and names of those left out for whatever reason. The number now exceeds 320 but with much certifying and verifying to do be done. Only those names that can “pass the detail” muster” are included. The point is: when we are all dead 50 years, this book, and the one to come after, will remain a solid reference tool and historical pointer. I am doing this with help from Betty Burkland, Anne Lindsley and Gail Phillips. We are all being welcomed by both event organizations and will have special credentials and perhaps t -shirts… Will we see you there? NCM Celebration Of The 75th Anniversary. In Collaboration with the National Corvette Museum (NCM). Great venue for a BIG event like the REDNECK RUMBLE. Plenty of shade, grass, blacktop for cruising around and a great expo building for indoor displays and vendors. This year Spring edition did not disappoint with the variety of cool rides at the event. Everything from hot rods, cool customs, traditional cars and trucks, hot rod trucks and all those awesome RAT RODS filling every corner of the fairgrounds. The REDNECK RUMBLE has shiny paint, dull paint, patina, wide whites, no white walls, rides down low or nose up in gasser form and a WHOLE LOT OF RUST! The great thing about this event is everyone enjoys all the different style of vehicles that cruise in thru the gates all weekend long. Give promoter Tom “Scooter Williams of Both Barrels Promotions credit for the idea and just working so hard to make each show better than the year before. Beside a cool car show, and in a huge swap meet, a Friday Night cruise at the local drive-in, great food vendors and vendors of all just about anything you can think of.
