“Hot rodding owes a lot to our veterans…” We don’t know them all, but we owe them all…. Next Thursday, November 11th, our nation celebrates VETERANS DAY. Veterans Day is the time we recognize ALL Veterans who have served our great country. We recognize the Veterans who have served in all the conflicts our country has experienced. We recognize the Veterans who are still alive, as well as those that have passed away. Most importantly we remember and recognize those people who paid the ultimate price, by giving their life while fighting for our country. These are the true HERO’s of our country.

They also got many idea’s from the equipment they worked on and parts they used and took care of, and then adapted them to their hot rods. Military surplus became a way of building hot rods to run on the dry lakes, at Bonneville and on the drag strip too. Think “bomber seats”...from military airplanes, and may other parts too. The GI BILL (remember that!) helped many a returning soldier and sailor go to college and start their own hot rod type business. They started what we enjoy today.

Please accept a heartfelt thank you from me to all of you who have served or are serving our great country today, in one of the various branches of the military. Because of you, we remain a free nation.

All of our Veterans wrote a blank check to our country, and put their lives on the line. For that we say THANK YOU...every day and in many ways.

Hot rodding owes a lot to our veterans, especially the ones who served and fought in WWII.

Chevy Has a New 10-Liter Crate Motor That Makes 1004 HP A naturally aspirated engine with that much power and 876 lb-ft of torque on pump gas proves that we're in the midst of a golden age. When Mopar announced a 1000-hp crate engine called the Hellephant, it was hard to hide our disappointment. Sure, a four-digit horsepower number out of the box sounds great, but it was hard not to think the company had called just a bit short of the Goldilocks figure. The good news is that Chevrolet agrees, which is why the company is announcing a new, one-thousand-and-four horsepower engine. That's right, the newest big block crate motor from GM makes 1004 hp and 876 lb-ft of torque on pump gas. The ZZ632/1000 does so without a turbo- or supercharger, relying instead on displacement alone. It's got plenty of that; the 632 cubic-inch engine is massive, with a 10-liter capacity that shames even monsters like the Bugatti Chiron and Dodge Viper. That's more than any road car would ever need. But this thing is built for racing. The massive iron-block engine can take a beating, with Chevy noting that a prototype has weathered over 200 simulated drag races on a dyno without failure. We can't even imagine what kind of power it could make with forced induction, but you'd struggle to find a blower that'd fit. If you can get by with just 1004 hp, the ZZ632/1000 goes on sale in early 2022. Pricing hasn't been announced, but the 621-hp ZZ572/620 with which it shares an engine block mold goes for $16,304.82. Expect this to land north of that figure. 10

2021 SEMA Show to Feature Collection of Chip Foose-Designed Vehicles The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) has announced that the Chip Foose collection will be on display at the 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, which will be the largest gathering of Foose-built vehicles ever assembled, the organization said. The Chip Foose Experience exhibit, located in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, will feature 20 of Foose’s builds, as well as 60 of his design sketches. Highlights include the 1956 Ford F-100 “FD-100” built for Foose’s Overhaulin’ television series and the “0032,” which won the Grand National Roadster Show’s “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster” award in 2000. It will also feature several Ridler Award-winning builds, including “Impression,” “Imposter,” “Grandmaster” and “Stallion.” Throughout the week of the SEMA Show, Chip Foose himself will be in the Chip Foose Experience area hand-drawing a new wheel design. OPTIMA Batteries Brings Ultimate Street Car Invitational to 2021 SEMA Show OPTIMA BATTERIES will have an expanded presence at the 2021 SEMA Show with two different booths, live racing and a press conference hosted by Mike Rowe highlighting the public debut of SpeedKore’s “Hellacious” mid-engine Dodge Charger, the company announced. OPTIMA brand ambassadors James Clay and Chris Polvoorde will also be in attendance with their respective vehicles – Clay with the BimmerWorld Bergsteiger E36 Hill Climb Car that raced in the 2021 Pikes Peak Hill Climb and Polvoorde with his Ford Ranger Pro Lite race truck. In an outdoor space located in the Bronze Lot outside of the Las Vegas Convention Center, OPTIMA Batteries will showcase celebrity and brand ambassador vehicles and host a portion of its OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) race, the PEAK Performance Challenge. More than 80 classic and modern sports cars competing in the OUSCI will be on display outside. Seeing it all come full circle is what makes this event so special to us.” The SpeedKore 1968 Dodge Charger “Hellacious,” the road-going version of the vehicle featured in “Fast 9,” will make its public debut at a press conference hosted by Mike Rowe and featuring stunt driver Tanner Foust and SpeedKore’s Tom Porter on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. PST in OPTIMA’s outdoor location. “Hellacious” features a custom carbon fiber widebody and a mid-mounted 6.2-liter Hellcat Hemi V8 mounted to a gated-manual Graziano transaxle from a Lamborghini Gallardo. Attendees will have the opportunity to see and hear the vehicle in action throughout the show. In partnership with EVOLVE Motion Simulators, showgoers will also have the chance to virtually race on a full-motion driving simulator while attempting to beat the lap times set by professional drivers Tanner Foust and James Clay. Inspired by the ever popular Cars N Coffee, we decided it would be fun to put a different spin (pun intended) on it. So, here it goes... Visualize a morning car meet with free coffee and donuts and all classes of cars, trucks and bikes are invited to attend. You'll have plenty of time to mingle with old friends and make some new ones and early enough for temperatures to still be pleasant. Just when you're beginning to get a little bored, we mount up and head off on a scenic fall cruise to end at an incredible lunch location. The leaves should still be spectacular and we're hopeful for great weather. We will have a route planned with several photographers staged along the way to capture you and your ride as you pass by. To be clear, this is NOT a timed event nor intended to be a road rally. The suggested route will provide the photo ops but you can travel to the end location however you choose. We will provide you with map cards to keep it simple and prevent anyone from laboring to keep up. Once at our final destination, you will have some more time to socialize and fill your thirst and appetite at what promises to be a hot spot in the area. For every diehard drag racing fan, NITRO Junkie and gearheads, the words of “Top Fuel and Funny Cars to the staging lanes”, means the BIG SHOW is about to go down. After the 2020 event was canceled due to the COVID situation across the USA, the 2021 HOLLEY National Hot Rod Reunion was the place to be over Fathers Day weekend. Beech Bend Raceway opened it’s gates to racers, drag racing fans, hot rodders and yes...those NITRO JUNKIES like us. The Hot Rod Reunion, in our opinion, is one of the best events all year long. Spun off years ago from it’s big brother the California Hot Rod Reunion, this event is one of those that transports us back to a 85 time of great fun and great memories.

While the Hot Rod Reunion is about all those wonderful drag cars and racing, the event is a whole lot more too. The pits are filled with all classes of drag race cars and the rest of the Beech Bend facility is filled with over 1500 pre1972 hot rods, customs, muscle cars and more. Judging for those that want to see how well their car or truck stands up to other vehicles, was held in the drive thru judging area. Awards are handed out for the Best of the Best. Vendors line the circle track area, so you can buy just about any kind of part you might need. Also in the circle track area are many of Drag Racing’s Hero’s and Legends. They are showing off their historic race cars, many in the exact condition when they last raced at a track, and talking to all the fans too. How great is that...getting to talk to the folks who made drag racing what it is today. These guys and gals paved the way for the rest of us and what we have

today to enjoy. The Beech Bend raceway stands are unique in that they are covered to keep 86

spectators out of the sun. Add in on the spectator side of the track, the seating is stadium style seating and you see why they get filled up when the racing is going on, especially when the NITRO cars are in the staging lanes. The racing runs the gamut from stock classes thru the fuel classes. Yes there are favorites for everyone. The rail birds are especially out in force when the AA/ GS cars are on the track with the front wheels reaching for the sky when the light goes green. When the NDRL 7.0 class is on track, those guys on alcohol put on a heckuva show too. Closing out the weekend is the fan favorite CACKLEFEST. What’s not to like about all the nitro cars from the glory days of drag racing push starting and burning off a load of 93% Nitro in the tank. Make your plans now for Fathers Day weekend 2022 to be at Beech Bend Raceway and the National Hot Rod Reunion….you wont be disappointed. 89
