It’s not just the OEM’s turning to electric cars….

No matter what we as gearheads think or feel today about electric powered vehicles, the fact is the future is going electric in a big way. This is not moving slowly, but coming at al of us FAST. As I have said in the past, I...like many of you, still love the sound and feel of that gas burning V-8 motor under the hood. The sensory experience is second to none. Having the person in the car next to check out your ride as it rumbles at a stop light is something we all love! Go ahead ...say you don’t and we’ll say your fibbing to yourself. I am waiting to see what hot rod or muscle car pops up with a full electric conversion at a show. It’s not if, but when and where it shows up...and I will take the bet that it will. Electric powered vehicles at Bonneville are not new. There have been some as research from university’s in the past. Team Vesco moving this way is HUGE. Guess it’s time to brush up on my electrical skills...think I will jump in my old gas burning hot rod to pick up a how to book...

Yes the news about car manufacturers switching to electric powered vehicles is not new anymore. The only thing new is when another car company announces they are joining the others in building electric cars & trucks at some point down the road. The BIG NEWS is when a long time Land Speed racer decides to go ELECTRIC POWERED for his ride, YES that is BIG NEWS! Rick Vesco...YES that Rick Vesco as in VESCO RACING (since 1933) is moving to electric power. The legendry 444 streamliner is in for a BIG change. It will be converted over to LECTRIC POWER to run at Bonneville. Our friend and master fabricator, Al Verschave, owner of AVS Fabrication in Oceanside CA has gotten the nod to work with Rick and Dave Spangler of Team Vesco and Eddy from REVOLT Systems to make the change. This is not the first car that AVS Fabrication has done like this. They are finishing up a 66 Mustang that will go racing also, with a complete electric drivetrain from REVOLT Systems. 2021 SEMA Show Registration Now Open Registration for the 2021 SEMA Show, scheduled for Nov. 2-5 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, is now open, show organizers announced.

The 2021 SEMA Show already has more than 1,500 companies confirmed to exhibit, including major automakers, small businesses and aftermarket manufacturers, at what will be the first industry-wide in-person gathering for the specialty automotive industry in nearly two years, SEMA officials said. “Given the restrictions our industry has endured the last year, pent-up demand for the SEMA Show is at an all-time high,” said Tom Gattuso, SEMA vice president of events. “More so than other years, the 2021 SEMA Show will be fundamental in helping industry professionals grow existing relationships, create new ones, and push their businesses forward.”

With the entire Las Vegas Convention Center in use, the SEMA Show floor will be designed to improve traffic flow and make navigating the event simple and easy, the organization said. The 2021 SEMA Show floorplan will begin to take shape during the annual Priority Space Selection process June 7-23. Companies that submit booth space applications before May 7 will participate in the weeks-long process to determine their booth location in the Las Vegas Convention Center. Attendees will also be able to sign up for educational seminars featuring industry experts and networking events that bring market niches together. “We’re excited to already be working with the more than 1,500 companies that have committed to exhibit at this year’s SEMA Show, and we expect hundreds more to reserve booth space before May 7,” said Gattuso. “We encourage attendees to register early so they can secure their credentials and receive updates on breaking news from what will be an amazing event.” Registration for the 2021 SEMA Show is offered in three categories – attendee, exhibitor, and media – and everyone must qualify to receive a badge and attend. Chicago Auto Show Gets Approval for In-Person Show Chicago Auto Show officials have received approval from state and city officials to host a special, in-person edition of the show July 15-19 at McCormick Place, organizers announced.

The special edition show will move to the West Building of the McCormick Place complex and expand outdoors. With the show’s move, attendees will now experience more outdoor test -drive opportunities, test tracks and technology demonstrations, which will take place along Indiana Avenue and surrounding city streets, organizers said. Auto show fans will be able to enjoy favorites like the Camp Jeep and Ram Truck indoor test tracks as well as Subaru’s pet adoption event. Ford will also offer experiences featuring the new Bronco, Bronco Sport and all-electric Mustang Mach-E SUV. “We’ve been working with McCormick Place officials for months on an opening plan, and very early on they saw that our show may provide a pathway to re-opening the facility,” said Chicago Auto Show general manager Dave Sloan. “We stand committed to providing a safe environment for all involved and will carefully adhere to the health and safety protocols and guidelines set forth by city and state officials. McCormick Place is an important economic engine for our city and state, and we take very seriously the responsibility that comes with helping to get it running again.”

The show’s 2021 plan begins with an electronic ticketing process. Tickets for the 2021 Chicago Auto Show will be sold exclusively online. Attendees will be able to select their preferred attendance date and time utilizing timed entrance windows designed to carefully control crowd capacity throughout each event day. Show organizers will also intentionally regulate the number of attendees throughout the day to control the number of people on the show floor at any given time. Attendees will also have the opportunity to pre-register for onsite activations including indoor and outdoor test track and ride-and-drive events. This will allow attendees to schedule participation in various show attractions ahead of time, diminishing lines and reducing congestion within exhibits, organizers said. “While we believe February is the right time for the Chicago Auto Show to have its biggest impact on the industry and the area economy, we’re thrilled to be able to experiment with the July dates,” said Sloan. “The timing has allowed us to get creative and try new things and the automakers have really embraced it.” Among their new ideas, Chicago Auto Show organizers are seeking approval on plans to transform Indiana Avenue into an automotive street festival in the evening of most show days featuring local food, entertainment and new cars and trucks. 9

After a year off due to COVID-19, The Pee Dee Street Rodders came back to Myrtle Beach for their 32nd Anniversary Run To The Sun Car Show! Not only did they come back, they brought over 3000 hot rods, muscle cars, rat rods, classics, customs and a whole lot more cool rides with them. The event was held on March 18-20. The event was held once again in town at the old Myrtle Beach Square Mall. This was the main show area all weekend, but there were some other events going on during the weekend for those wanting to take in as much gearhead fun after a year without any. There were beautiful cars and trucks, door prizes given out, cash giveaways, and much more fun at the beach. It was great to enjoy hot rodders and all those cool rides after missing the show in 2019. Started off very cold and windy with some showers during the weekend, not a wash out, everyone had a great time and did not keep out the spectators even bundled up to check out all the cool cars and trucks. The Pee Dee Street Rodders donate proceeds from the show to the Children’s Miracle Network, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Horry County Benevolent Fund and Grand Strand Miracle League.
