Men and Women who have given their lives for our country. When someone goes into military service for our country, they in effect sign a blank check, with their life on the line for our country. They do this knowing full well at any time, their life may be taken.

Memorial Day weekend is upon us...where did the first 5 months of 2022 go! For many people, Memorial Day signals the unofficial start of summer, even though summer really starts on June 21st.

Memorial Day HONORS all those who have paid the ultimate price, so that we remain a FREE NATION every day. We can never say thank you enough to them, or their families.

To many of us, the Memorial Day holiday means bar-b-ques, family gatherings and an extra day off for many of us. Gearheads may even try to take in a cruise in or car event with their cool ride or just to spectate.

While you are enjoying whatever you are doing on Monday May 30th, please take at least a few moments and say a prayer for all of those brave souls who have protected us and paid that terrible price.

Folks...Memorial Day is much more than all the BBQ’s and other things that go on during the weekend. It’s THE day of remembrance and honor for some very special people in our country’s history.

I know I am very thankful for them...everyday...and I SALUTE THESE HERO’s...ALWAYS!

CHEVY CORVETTE Z06 to PACE 2022 INDY 500! The new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will serve as the official pace car of the 2022 Indianapolis 500, the highlight of the Indy Car series. However, it won't just be the regular Z06 but a special 70th Anniversary Edition that was announced in January and marks this year's 70th anniversary of the arrival of America's sports car. This year's Indy 500 is scheduled for May 29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and tasked with pacing duties is none other than former Indy Car driver Sarah Fisher. She's also served as the series' safety car driver in previous years. Fisher will be one of the first outside of General Motors to have driven the new Z06, and we can't imagine she'll be disappointed by the experience. We'll remind you that the new Z06 is powered by a flat-plane crank V-8 related to the engine found in the C8.R endurance racer. It displaces 5.5 liters and generates its peak power via revs instead of forced induction, with the tachometer able to fly to a lofty 8,600 rpm. The 670-hp peak power arrives at 8,400 rpm, while peak torque of 460 lb-ft arrives at 6,300 rpm. The sole transmission is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic that sends power to the rear wheels only. Performance numbers haven't been published but a 0-60 mph time in 2.6 seconds is expected. Customer deliveries are scheduled to start later this year. Pricing hasn't been announced but is expected to start around $90,000 for the coupe. A convertible is also available. No other brand and vehicle have handled pace car duties at the Indy 500 more often than Chevy and the Corvette, respectively. This will be the 19th time a Corvette has served as the pace car, and the 33rd time for a Chevy. A Corvette first paced the Indy 500 in 1978, but Chevy has been providing pace cars since 1948, when a Fleetmaster Six convertible did the honors. Chevy, which is also a current power unit supplier to IndyCar (together with Honda), has a history with the Indy 500 that goes back much further. Brand co-founder Louis Chevrolet, along with brothers Arthur and Gaston, competed in early races. Gaston won the 1920 race. 10

Former NHRA Announcer Dave McClelland Dies at 85 Dave McClelland was a fixture on NHRA TV broadcasts for more than a quarter of a century. If you grew up watching NHRA drag racing on TV, you saw and heard Dave. Dave McClelland, the legendary velvet-voiced NHRA broadcaster for three decades, who died Sunday May 22nd of natural causes, was 85. It wasn’t just McClelland’s honey-smooth voice and classic delivery that made the often-honored announcer so much a part of the NHRA’s 70-plus-year drag-racing story. It was his commitment to his craft, his genuine love for the sport’s people as much as for its quick and fast race cars, and his approachability and enthusiasm. To borrow a line from the late Indianapolis Star motorsports writer George Moore (who said it about USAC plane-crash victim Frankie Del Roy), McClelland was a one-off: “They built only one. And when Dave passed away, they closed up the shop.” Since 1959, when he made his raceannouncing debut, he would make calling the races a second job, after his 9-to-5 day at the radio station he worked at. He would get on the mike at the racetracks “just about anywhere that I was asked. “ McClelland said that “most were no-pay jobs, maybe expenses. It was mostly an opportunity to be involved. Little did I realize at the time that I was laying the groundwork for what eventually became a career.” He formed a car club (the Ark-La-Tex Timing Association), managed a racetrack, still kept his radio and TV jobs (including everything from weatherman to program director), and finally with the NHRA in the promotion and public-relations department. By 1973, he was the on-camera, play-by-play host of the NHRA Drag Racing series on television. Because the shows—for nearly two decades—were post produced, I was able to still perform my role as one of the track announcers. My run for the TV shows lasted some 27 years, and the race announcing about 45,” McClelland said. McClelland met NHRA founder Wally Parks in 1961 and got the chance to announce the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis for the first time—and to start a nearly 50-year friendship that lasted until Park’s passing in 2007. He called that introduction to Parks “one of the major life-changing moments for me and my family. We have now resided in the same house in Glendale (Calif.) since ’71, raised three kids, and have given thanks every day for Wally and the opportunities he gave all of us. It was a relationship, throughout the entire time, that I will cherish forever.” 11

Chevy Won’t Be Attending 2022 SEMA Show In Las Vegas First FORD...Now Chevy! It’s Official Chevy will not attend this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas in an official capacity.

In a statement, GM confirmed it would not be present at the 2022 SEMA Show with any of its four brands. This includes Chevrolet, which typically enjoys a large presence at the SEMA Show thanks to performance offerings like the Chevy Corvette and Camaro, as well as off-road-ready vehicles like the Chevy Silverado and Tahoe. The Bowtie Brand also often presents new products from its Chevrolet Accessories and Chevrolet Performance portfolios at SEMA, but these sub-brands will not be present at the show this year either. “GM has made the decision not to participate in the 2022 SEMA Show,” a spokesperson confirmed to GM Authority in an emailed statement. “The SEMA show has always inspired us, and accessories and performance parts remain an important part of our business.” While Chevy will not be present at the 2022 SEMA Show in an official capacity, there will of course still be plenty of vehicles from the brand there. Aftermarket suppliers, tuning companies and private owners will still bring their modified Chevys to SEMA this year, but there will be no official vehicle debuts from GM itself. Chevy made a bit of a splash at last year’s SEMA Show when it debuted the Chevy Off-Road Concept (renamed from the Beast for legal reasons) – a purpose-built off-roader with a supercharged 6.2L LT4 engine under the hood. It also debuted its headline-making ZZ632 Big Block crate engine and backed a Hoonigan project to drop the massive V8 into a 1988 Camaro Z/28. While GM did not say why it will be sitting out this year’s SEMA Show, it’s possible the automaker simply has no new Chevrolet Accessories or Chevrolet Performance products to show off right now. This seems likely given GM’s current focus on getting its new electric vehicles to market, like the GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac Lyriq and Chevy Silverado EV, for example. The 2022 SEMA Show will be held from November 1st through to November 4th at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

You'll have plenty of time to mingle with old friends and make some new ones and early enough for temperatures to still be pleasant. Just when you're beginning to get a little bored, we mount up and head off on a scenic fall cruise to end at an incredible lunch location. The leaves should still be spectacular and we're hopeful for great weather. We will have a route planned with several photographers staged along the way to capture you and your ride as you pass by. To be clear, this is NOT a timed event nor intended to be a road rally. The suggested route will provide the photo ops but you can travel to the end location however you choose. We will provide you with map cards to keep it simple and prevent anyone from laboring to keep up. Once at our final destination, you will have some more time to socialize and fill your thirst and appetite at what promises to be a hot spot in the area.
