Rachel O’Reilly Rachel is the 18-year-old daughter of Kevin and Amy O’Reilly, of Park man Township. Samantha was one of the Lead Crew Members selected to represent Kenston High School and Bomber Bash as they re ceived the Medical Mutual Pillar Award for outstanding community service. She is also a member of the Geauga County Hunger Task Force, helping raise food donations and money for local Geauga County food Samanthabanks.keeps incredibly busy, but let’s not forget her love of 4-H. She thrives in Greener Fields 4-H Club, where she started as a Cloverbud and is now serving her second term as club president. She also has served as the club’s Samanthatreasurer.isamember of Junior Leaders, a three-year member of Junior Fair Board, and her family and herself are Farm Bureau members. She has participated in The Great Geauga County Fair’s Junior Livestock Auc tion for eight years, raising and showing poul try, hogs and market goats. In her quest to raise the best possible 4-H project animals, she has been honored to have raised the Grand and Reserve Champion Turkey, Grand Champion Hen Turkey, Reserve Champion Chicken Pen and Grand Champion Market She has been awarded the Outstanding 4-H Member Award and loves to help and teach the younger children as they partic ipate in 4-H. Other hobbies include fishing, kayaking, hunting, recently shooting clays and just being a teenager. She plans to attend college next year in pursuit of a career in physical therapy.

Jessica Lesner is the 17-year-old daugh ter of Thomas and Lisa Lesner, of Au burn Township. She is a senior at Kenston High School, where she has participated in the Envirothon, Russian and Spanish clubs. She currently is a full-time Kent State Geauga student, earning both dual credits of college and high school classes.Outside of school, Jessica participates in many extracurriculars, such as helping to or ganize the Kenston Bomber Bash, a charity that works with the Northern Ohio Chapter of a Kid Again to give children with life-threat ening illnesses and their families a time out from illness, and enjoying that time at many different fun events. Along with being a member of the Ken ston girls’ soccer team for three years, where she has coached with various youth camps in the summer, Jessica volunteers regular ly with the Valley Art Center for Art by the Falls.She participates outside of the commu

Erin Keener is the 16-year-old daugh ter of Doug and Kim Keener, and is a ju nior at Madison High School. She values her academics and has held a 4.0 GPA or higher throughout highSheschool.stays active in her school, participat ing in concert and marching and pep band as a squad and section leader. She also takes part on the school’s varsity tennis team and is a member of National Honors Society. Erin is a five-year member of Buckeye Bunnies and has taken on the responsibility as historian, vice president and, most recent ly, secretary. She won three “Best of Shows” in last year’s open and junior fair, and also is a member of the Junior Fair Board. Outside of the fair, Erin enjoys attending rabbit shows to better her herd. She has been a Girl Scout since kindergarten, has achieved her Silver Award and is finishing her Gold Award. She has worked at the Chagrin Valley Roller Rink for four years, also spending her time teaching roller skating lessons to chil dren.Within 4-H, Jessica is an eight-year mem ber of the Pygmy Connection, and her family are Farm Bureau members. She has held po sitions of recreation officer, birthday officer and currently is the photography and so cial media officer. During this time, she has shown pygmy goats, swine, market turkey and market chicken. In 2016, Jessica received the Junior Gold Award for Swine and was the 2019 Pygmy Princess.

Erin Keener

For the past six years, Samantha has vol unteered as an instructor for the two-week Auburn/Bainbridge Safety Town program. She is also a five-year camp counselor for the Heiman Girls Basketball Camp. Samantha is a Lead Crew Member of the Kenston Bomber Bash Program, a leadership program at Kenston that organizes, fundrais es and executes the community and school events that support the NE Ohio Chapter of A-Kid-Again. This charity provides enriching adventures for medically-fragile children and their families in the local communities.

Mack Douglas Mack is the 16-year-old son of Mike and Molly Doug lass, and is a senior at Chardon High School. He is attending Au burn Career Center for Allied Health Tech and is certified in first aid and CPR. He plays baseball for Chardon Rec and CYOMackbasketball.isasix-year member of Granny’s Kids 4-H Club, where he has held the office of secretary. He shows turkeys, chickens and goats. He was the Maple Festival Prince in 2013.Mack works for Push and Pull Contract ing. Jacob Grinstead Jacob is the son of Dave and Amy Grin stead. He is 18 years old and a 2022 grad uate of West Geauga High School, where he participated in the marching band and soccer. He was a squad leader for three years and a member of the band council. He was a team captain of his soccer team for two years and this year he was awarded the Scholar Athlete Award and the Phi Beta Kappa Award. He was the chairman of the blood drive at school and he was a member of Student Council and Interact. Jacob has been awarded the William F. Allen Award and The West Geauga Band Di rector’s Award for his band participation, and The Harvard Book Award for his academics. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.Jacob has been a member of Breed ers-n-Feeders 4-H Club for 13 years and has held the office of treasurer. He has also been awarded the 4-H Gold Medal for rab bits. He shows rabbits and swine at fair and he has won Grand Champion Rabbit Meat Pen three times and Reserve Champion Meat Pen once. Jacob also is a member of Junior Fair Board and is a 4-H camp counselor. Through his participation in the Rabbit Department, he was the recipient of the Pitorak Family Memorial Outstanding Member award. Jacob will be attending Slippery Rock University, where he was accepted into the honors college. He will be majoring in exer cise science and will be pursuing a career in physical therapy. He is also a member of the Slippery Rock Marching Band. In Jacob’s spare time, he works at CVS.

Rachel has been a member of Flockmas ters 4-H Club since 2009, where she has served as president, vice president, secre tary and historian. She also is a member of Breeders & Feeders 4-H Club and Junior Leaders, currently serving as president in both groups. She has participated on the Por tage County Livestock Judging Team and par ticipated in The Ohio State Livestock Judging contest. She is a 4-H camp counselor and a family member of Farm Bureau. Rachel has been awarded the Gold Med al for beef and been named Outstanding 4-H Member. Her family hosted a 4-H LABO ex change student from Japan for four weeks. She also is a Junior Fair Board member and current president, and has participated at fair with clothing projects, market beef, lambs, chickens and fancy chickens. She has been awarded at the state level for her sewing proj ect and has participated there with market lambs and poultry.

Page B5August 2022 Geauga County Maple Leaf & Middlefield Post to the Ohio Cattleman’s Association BEST Show Circuit, where she is the junior repre sentative on the OCA BEST Show planning committee and an OCA Stockmanship Top 5 finalist.Rachel is active in her church, belonging to the St. Helen’s Life Teen Youth Group, a volunteer at the Cleveland Osman Center for the Poor and Homeless, and a Lifeteen Harvest worker, participating in a week-long community service activity.

Teddy Welsh Teddy is the 16-year-old son of Ed and Sara Welsh, of Gates Mills, and attends University School, where he is a junior. He is a oneyear member of Geauga Livestock 4-H Club, where he shows market lambs, and a sev en-year member of Buckeye Bunnies, where he has held the offices of president, vice pres ident and recreation officer. During his time in 4-H, Teddy has been awarded the Outstanding 4-H Member award in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Teddy is active in several rabbit asso ciations, including the American Rabbit Breeders Association, the Ohio State Rab bit Breeders Association and the American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Club, where he is a nationally-ranked herdsmen, breeder and Teddy is an accomplished horsemen and is a junior member of Eglinton and Caledon Hounds, where he has qualified to represent Canada in the Junior North American Field Hunter Championships. He also is a junior handler with the Masters of Foxhounds Association and has placed high at some of the most prestigious hound shows in the country.

The Geauga County Junior Fair Board is made up of representatives from seven different youth organizations from across the county including: 4-H, Farm Bureau, GHPA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Grange. Together, they plan and organize the Junior Fair portion of The Great Geauga County Fair.The purpose of Junior Fair Board is to promote the interests of Geauga County youth through educational exhibits and ac tivities at The Great Geauga County Fair. Whenever possible, activities of the junior exhibitors are coordinated for the benefit of the total Meetingsyouth.are usually held the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. on the Geauga County Fairgrounds in the Fair Board Meeting Room. Members of the 2022 Junior Fairboard are: Samantha Bergansky, Addison Bezdek, Garrett Bosse, Madeline Christie, Chance Corey, Jacob Grinstead, Ava Intellisano, Erin Keener, Danielle Lane, Kaitlyn Lane, Emilia Larkins, Rachel O’Reilly, Cooper Pikor, Kend all Pikor, Tatumn Poff, Taylor Poff, Gavin Sco cos, Elizabeth Smith, Avery Taylor, Brooke Taylor, Katie Thur, Grace Toth and James Toth.To become a representative of the Junior Fair Board, a youth must be at least 14 years of age or a freshman in high school. Youth must first complete an application. Potential members then go through an interview pro cess. Finally, the selected youth are notified and then begin a rewarding fair experience.

Jenna Somrack ed for her first year in 4-H! Jenna is a fourth-grader at St. Helen School. She’ll be bringing a pen of market chickens to The Great Geauga County Fair. of chickens. All of my past buyers have been very pleased with the quality chickens I have raised and this year will be no different. My chickens are fed the best possible feed and will be delicious. Hope you can come out and support 4-H by bidding on mine or another 4-Her’s chick en pen. This year’s small animal and poultry auction is on Friday, Sept 1, at 2:30 p.m. Hope to see you there! I am 17 years old and attend Char don High School as an incoming junior. I have been in 4-H for five years and have raised market chickens and market tur keys; I show fancy chickens as well. I am President of Granny’s Kids. So excited to see you at Fair. Happy 200th will be showing her market hog and tur key for her last year at the fair. She will be attending Youngstown State for psy chology. this year is market turkey. She is pic tured with her bird, Phoenix. Happy turkeys make for Happy Thanksgiving!

This is my seventh year in 4H and fifth year doing Beef Cattle. I love cattle so much that it became a passion of mine; I dream and I’m working hard to become a future cattle farmer. You will be able to find me at Geauga County Jr. Fair. All 4H kids will be marketing their animals at the two-day auction — in-person and online. My steer’s ear tag is #228. Auburn Swine Club members will be cel ebrating their 40th year as a Geauga County 4-H MitchClub. Timmons, from Auburn Township, started the club in 1982. Linda Wilson took over the club and, when she retired, Michelle May became the advisor and is still there today. She has devoted her time as an advi sor for 38 years with the help of many great members, parents and families. Auburn Swine Club is not only a swine club, members also raise poultry and goat projects. This year there are 17 members and 2 Cloverbuds. They also help the community by making “no sew blankets” for the Veterans and collecting food donations for the Geauga Hunger Task Force every year. They also adopt a family from the local school district which is having a difficult time at Christmas by providing gifts and a mone taryIndonation.yearspast, the club was honored at The Great Geauga County Fair by the Geau ga County Department on Aging for spring and fall yard cleanup days helping many local senior citizens. The club also made benches and donated them to the Fair Board to place around the fairgrounds. Many benches have a dedication plaque attached. When the Ohio Department of Agricul ture recommended hand sanitizers at every barn (way before Covid-19), the club assisted the fair maintenance crew to install, fill, take down and clean more than 100 units each year. These members continue “To Make the Best Better.”

Auburn Swine Club will be helping The Great Geauga County Fair celebrate their 200th anniversary. The club will have a booth in the Jr. Fair building to display memorabilia and photos from our 40 years. The fair will be open for its first day on Wednesday, Aug. 31, with a parade around the fairgrounds. We are looking forward to not only the club’s 40th celebration but also the fair’s 200th. Come and see us all at The Great Geauga County Fair from Aug. 31 to Sept. 5, 2022. Hope to see you there!
