Please note our age suggestions are a guideline only. No two children are the same, so it’s very hard to prescribe any book for a particular age—the same way that we all love different stories. Many of our books are enjoyed by children and adults of all ages. In general, the ages we have chosen are at the younger end, so a book marked 3+ could also be great for four and five year olds. Our website gives you more information, reviews and page samples to help you choose. Choosing books is an adventure, and we wish you the joy of picking the perfect book!

The aim of Gecko Press is to encourage children to love to read. We publish curiously good books from around the world, books that are ‘crunchy’. Gecko Press, founded in 2005, is a New Zealand-based independent publisher. We translate and publish children’s books by some of the world’s best writers and illustrators. We choose books with a strong ‘heart factor’ that are excellent in story, illustration, and design. Gecko Press publishes around 15 titles each year. Of these, two or three are original to Gecko Press. Our list currently stands at over 100 titles from countries including France, Taiwan, Sweden, Japan, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands—and, of course, New Zealand. Gecko Press books are always well-made. Our paper and bindings are carefully chosen, as we want our books to have a long life. We publish in formats from boardbooks to novels, mostly for ages zero to 13 (sometimes zero to infinity). Most titles are available as e-books. If you would like to be part of our Gecko Press community and find out about books, competitions, and events, please sign up as a Friend of Gecko Press at www.geckopress.com. You can also like us on Facebook, find us on YouTube, and follow us on Twitter— and do also please tell your friends, and give children good books!
