I’m Lena and this is my little brother Bo. We’re sitting in a ditch, waiting. We’re going to play car chicken.
We hear a car coming. We stand on the road and pretend to be looking for something.
When the car gets so close we can’t stand it, we fly away. It’s dangerous. We could get run over.
Back home they tell us: you mustn’t do such a dangerous thing. Find something else to do.
“Like what?” we say.
“Wash your beaks, for instance. It’s time to eat.”
I’m Lena and this is my little brother Bo.
Sometimes we play car chicken. Sometimes we sing in the top of the tree.
Bo is allowed to pick the worms out of his pie — I wasn’t when I was small.
