Special Events William Mercer Young Achiever Award This is an encouragement award for a young pharmacist, who has made a particular contribution to their department or Hospital Pharmacy in Victoria. The award was created in honour of William Mercer—an outstanding individual and dedicated Hospital Pharmacist. A long-serving Federal SHPA Councillor, he was Director of Pharmacy at the Alfred Hospital from 1948 until 1985, after commencing work at the Royal Melbourne Hospital upon graduation in 1942. Bill Mercer was well known for his tireless efforts to encourage young pharmacists to pursue a career in Hospital Pharmacy. The award will be presented immediately prior to the Hypothetical Debate “Pharmacy in 2020” at 15:30
Association of Hospital Pharmacists Special General Meeting Association of Hospital Pharmacists (AHP) will hold a Special General Meeting at the Summit. This meeting will take place at 13:15—13:30 in Room 2
SHPA Victorian Annual Branch Meeting SHPA (Vic) will hold the 2008 Annual Branch Meeting in Room 1 at 17:15 . All members are encouraged to attend this meeting, which will be followed by the Summit Drinks in the foyer.
Keynote Address Walter Mikac
Walter Mikac is a pharmacist, an inspirational person and a motivational speaker. He is co-founder of The Alannah & Madeline Foundation, formed in honour of his two daughters and their mother who died at the Port Arthur tragedy. He speaks with passion, experience and conviction about overcoming adversity, maximising every moment and striving for life-balance. Walter's message is valuable on both the personal and professional basis and includes a consideration of making better decisions to increase productivity. It’s a profound and timeless message certain to motivate.

Prof Bill Charman
Prof Bill Charman is Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FPPS), Monash University and Director, Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Melbourne, Australia. He received the GlaxoWellcome International Achievement award in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1999, the Australasian Pharmaceutical Sciences Association Medal in 2005, the Controlled Release Society International Career Achievement in Oral Drug Delivery Award in 2006, and a FIP Pharmaceutical Sciences World Congress Research Achievement Award in 2007. He was a team member of the Drug Discovery Project of the Year selected by the Medicines for Malaria Venture (Geneva, Switzerland) in 2002, 2007 and 2008.
