DOCH

Cover Design: Ruby Burgess-Hoar

Dear EM, I wanted to reiterate a few messages that we have talked about in House. I am extremely proud of how you have handled the radical uncertainty of 2020. I know each of you have your own challenges and you are doing a remarkable job of remaining positive and focusing on what matters and what you can control. This is an extremely important strategy in preserving your mental health. I am proud of your resilience and the empathy and compassion you have for one another and the strength you have shown in the face of adversity. The personal growth I have seen taken place over the past 6 months has been nothing short of incredible. A saying we use in House is “just roll with the punches and take each day at a time, because in the context of a global pandemic, this is all you can do. For those of you who are heading home or are there already, please know you will continued to be supported by your remote learning coach, and me, through morning Zoom sessions and we will continue to explore creative ways to remain connected as a House. For those students who remain with us at Corio, rest assured you will be receiving the same level of care and support that you have been accustom to. Student Wellbeing has and always will be my number one priority regardless of whether you are on or off campus and I will do everything possible to continue to support you over the next few months. It is ok to be frustrated, angry, disappointed and upset. These are normal emotional reactions, but please know you are not alone and staff and your family are here to support you. We will get through this, we will be stronger and the sun will come up tomorrow. Stay safe and connected and focus on what matters and what you can control!

ITH JEMIMA AUGUST 6TH, evening of. Word got around that one of Jemima’s tunes was being aired on TripleJ. It was with great pride and not a little emotion that the students of EM gathered in the Common Room to listen in. No doubt we will all look back and say, ‘I was at School with this legend’.
