The giant trees that had been burnt by bush fires towered high above the smaller trees in the forest. The proud, but timid deer passed through this area were always afraid of the fire, but strangely enough, they were not afraid of the heavy rains that would now and then flood the lower end of the valley. If by chance, the deer picked up the scent of a person or a strange animal coming into the forest, they would immediately hide in the dense undergrowth. giant
