THE AUDREY SKIRBALL KENIS THEATER AT THE GEFFEN PLAYHOUSE

FROM THE PRODUCING DIRECTOR

WELCOME TO THE GEFFEN PLAYHOUSE WE ARE SO PLEASED TO WELCOME BACK DANIEL BEATY. After an extraordinary run at Crossroads Theater, Daniel brings to us his newest work, Through The Night. Like Emergency, a piece we felt passionately compelled to produce, this piece is a moving exploration of the deeply personal bonds between African-American men, their fathers and their sons. With each character Daniel creates and portrays he is able to engage on both a deeply personal and intimate level while attacking issues that remain global. At the helm of Through The Night is Charles Randolph-Wright. The success of their continuing collaboration is clear in the painstaking precision that this performance demands. With Charles’ insight and direction, Daniel is able to create individual characters with amazing clarity. Much like Daniel’s changes from one character to the next, the environment of this play demands considerable fluidity. Scenic, Lighting and Projection Designer Alexander Nichols, Costume Designer Reggie Ray and Sound Designer Lindsay Jones have delivered an overall asthetic that allows for ever-changing locales and specificity. We have consistently sought ongoing relationships with writers, actors, designers and directors. Our hope is that artists come to think of this as home, and as the hosts, we seek to make this an environment where work can grow and flourish. Daniel Beatty is one of our finest examples of a member of the Geffen family, I personally consider him as an adopted son, and it is with great pleasure that I welcome him home. See you at the theater,
