STUDY : Villa Müller - Adolf Loos The house design project started with a study of the Villa Müller of Adolf Loos. The drawings and models show how the complicated split levels are being connected.
Stair is a connection, it can be direct or indirect; it can make you clearer or it can make you lost.
In Villa Müller there are two types of stairs, one is the central stair, serving the house master, mainly connects the main function rooms of the house. Besides is the side stair, used by the servant, connecting the services area of the house. The master’s stair provides a gentle spatial experience while the travelling allows visual enjoyments crossing different rooms. The servant’s stair is rather straight forward and direct, giving the shortest travelling time around the house.

SITE ANALYSIS : Circulation of LADDER STREET The drawing demonstrates the similarity of the site with Villa M端ller, which is the DOUBLE CIRCULATION SYSTEM. Around the site two circulation systems are found : 1.) The Ladder Street, which is the most direct and efficient linkage between levels (Mid-level & Sheung Wan) 2.) Stairs around the site, which provide diverse pathways for pedestrians.

The strategy is to make use of the steps of Ladder street as the elements of controlling the house’s split levels. A series of working models were made to explore the potential of spatial rearrangement.

FUNCTION - TOY CENTRE
The project focus on the growing toy industry in China, study shows the role of China in the toy industry remain in the production stage. In this age of growth in economy and education level, China has the resource and performs a great potential of transforming itself into an more innovation and leading role in the toy industry. And with the improving accessibility and connection, China can also serve as a great coordination to the world.
PLANNING OF THE SITE - AN INNNOVATION OF THE TOY INDUSTRY By inserting the whole production and retails line into the site, the Toy Urban Park aims to stimulate an innovation of toy industry by attracting different parties into the toy design process.
1. Research & Development stage : The R&D Centre perform the greatest international linkage to the airport & to China. 2. Design Stage: The Toy Design Centre is for designers from different places to have exchange. 3.1. Participation of locals - Shopping Mall The notion of assigning the Shopping Mall is based on seen development of Tung Chung, which leads to a foreseeable increase in population. There would be shops for selling the products of the designers for testing market reactions & collect customers’ opinions. Under the shopping mall there are inns for foreign designers & businessmen to stay. 3.2. Participation of locals - Exhibition Centre Pedestrians in the mall will be attracted by the exhibition events in the exhibition centre. The physical location of the centre aims to achieve a communication between the toy designers & locals. 4. Mini-Production Centre : for making mock-up toy products. 5. Inspection Centre

SITE : LOK MA CHAU LOOP, HONG KONG
(BORDER OF HONG KONG & SHENZHEN) STUDY OF LIFESTYLE AND SOCIAL INTERACTION BETWEEN HKSZ The project is to design a watchtower with lodges in the border between Hong Kong of Shenzhen. Due to the rapid infrastructural development and the huge population flow between the two cities, the site is visioned to be the centre of the future HKSZ Twin City. By studying the purposes of people crossing the border among these ten years, the “border crossing” action has already been developed into a normal daily routine for some people like students, employees & employer. The diversity of border crosser driven the idea of cultural exchange happened in the border line - a cultural border.

1. “LET’S GO FILMMING !” - Lodge for Filmming Crews FILMING CREW LIFESTYLE STUDY By looking into the production crew structure and the daily routine of the filming crew, the fast and rapid living style is observes. With the very short resting time in their own lodge, the concept is thus to provide a minimum living lodge with efficient acess to their working places.

Seasonal population change is found in Daimeisha because of the large flow of tourist population. The concept is to have a flexible Housing System accomodating the seasonal population change.

SITE : DAMEISHA; SHENZHEN; CHINA The site Dameisha is located in the sloopy site near Shenzhen seacoast, while near the se there are a lot of tourist spots. On the back of the site, a number of villa developments are found, but most of them are in vacant.

SITE STRATEGY Macao's Lago Nam Wan C, D area is a valuable coastal reclamation land of Macau. It connects the South Bay, West Bay and the New Port area, forming a triangular shape. Among the nearby areas there are the government gate, Fire Department, Macau WatchTower ,waterfront leisure zone, the old city and the Typa Bridge. Transfer of the traffic convergence zone, with heavy traffic. This master planning is pointing to a LOW-CARBON and SUITAINBLE direction. 1. A Fresh Area Area To keep the fresh air in the area, there are only cycle ,pedestrian lanes on the ground. Existing car lanes will be relocated to the underground. 2. Low-carbon Residential Area The low-carbon residential units will be situated in the centre of the site. Green living environment is promoted, the residential housing ,solar panels ,waste water & stormwater recycling system will be adopted. 3 Suitanable Business Zone Low-density commercial office buildings are situated in this area. 4. Land in front of the Municipal Building The existing Municipal Building is at the southern edge of the site. A park is situated in front of the Municipal Building, which allows different public activities. Due to the location of the Municipal Building, people standing on the land could enjoy the view of Lago Nam Wan. Public Seatings will be designed on this land. 5. BIPV solar panel The canopy with BIPV solar panel covers the main pedestrian walkway from the light tram station to the Lago Sai Wan Square. In addition, the electricity generated by the BIPV solar panels could be supplied to the region. 6. Children Park The Children Park will provide environmentally friendly recreational facilities. 7 West Lake corridor The existing old banyan trees are the major features of the Old Town area. The jogging track along the lake allows people to enjoy the old scenery around the lake.

A mobile school, travelling over the world,giving totally different insight to students from different backgrounds, initiating close interaction with the locals is our proposed tool for developing design student’s social awareness. Students are trained to look at a city through communication with citizens that they don’t familiar with, and give response to the comments. At the same time, citizens are invited to discuss and participate in the education system. It is a multidirectional learning process, which is to the architectural students and also the citizens.

GUONGZHOU _ City Revolution _ Inter-weaving of new and old city fabrics The Site selected is an overlapped zone of new and old city fabrics, the new high-rise and old low-rise buildings are situated next to each others, creating not only great visual tension between the two , but also the lifestyle contained. Our school is stratically placed between these two fabrics with high population flow to arouse the interest of public. Students are invited to look at the cities through social , enviromental and economical aspect through analytical method and develop a new invention in this highly transforming cities, presenting their desirable developing strategy from their vision.

Why Automatic Delivery System?
CONCEPT - Pop up cells connected by Vertical Automatic Delivery System Traditional carparks are marked as dark and unwelcomed. To reverse this condition, programme weaving of car parking space is our solution. The site, Central, is one of the busiest district in Hong Kong. Central is having one of the fastest pace of living in the world. Our site, is next to one of the most busy street in Hong Kong, Connaught Road. Also, it is next to City Hall, one of the core cultural icon of Hong Kong. In connected to our site it is the central commercial destrict, connected to a convenient access to different public transportation including MTR, ferry and bus. The complexity of site context is addressing the potential of different city life during different times of a day. At the same time, the convenient public transportation access is addressing the underlying danger of underusage of the car parking lots. The brief is to provide a minimum 1500 car parking lots within the tower, however we criticized on the needs of car parking lots of that area. Based on our study, the huge demand of parking lots will only happen in day time. Our proposal is to extend the programms of existing City Hall while at the same time, provide an efficient automatic parking system to meet the great demand of urban needs. Numbers of cells, allowing swapping between parking and cultural activities with different scale at different time are connected by the vertical automatic delivery system.

From UNUSED to USED
We are proposing an automatic car delivery system as a response to the need of quick access with high density. And we also benefit in having control of the location of occupied car slots, the system can flexibly rearrange the cars so as to provide extra space for any pop-up activities. The top floor restuarant is equipped with a fixed kitchen with flexible seatings, the parking lots can be occupied as seatings when there are more people come to the restuarant. The pop-up studio space is a key component of the self suitainable maintanance of the building. By renting out the unused car lots, income generated could be used as the maintainace cost of the highly mechanical system of the car park tower.

The Furniture Design Workshop
In order to let all the volunteers to understand more about participatory design. A furniture design workshop is collaborated with seven ethinic minority families in Hong Kong.
A pre-school design practice of participatory design
The design of my group is to design a stackable stool with storage. It can be fit into the small bedroom of the family. After a workshop with the children on drawing and modelling. They showed a keen wish of having animal furniture. We collected differnent fabric, carpet, and unused buttons from the children and the volunteer to start the design.

Children reared in darkness the first few years of life may have permenantly impaired vision.
The site visit in Februrary targeted to understand more about the school environment, building material and techniques in Cambodia. All primary schools in Cambodia are built from standard drawings. We flight for designing a new style pre-school building so as to demostrate the impact of school environment to children. “If my parents are not free to take me to the school. I can only study on the kitchen table in my home. I used to read in the dark kitchen. I have never think of what I want for a school. I always study in different bad environment, I cannot imagine how a good school can be.”
Ventilation There is no fans in classroom and no natural ventilation. The temperature difference between outdoor and indoor stimulate the growth of bacteria, especially in hot and wet season.

Let’s get it started!
Let’s build it! The school came out in four days.
Day 1 Workshop Sketches
Before we come to Cambodia, the main structural drawings were sent to the local contractor for building.
Family Visit
After our arrival, we have different workshops with children every morning. The volunteer team spreaded in teams to work at the afternoon, have workshops with teachers and visit local families. The workshop include both brain-storming sketch drawing and craft making. Our design team look into the sketches at night to get ideas from what the children think ok :

Methodist City Space Interior Design (2010) Methodist City Space, Methodist Church Kwun Tong, Hong Kong
When we talk about “Church”, what pop up in our mind are always the grand and spatial church buildings in Europe. However in Hong Kong, a city with very limited space, we never have the space to build a church. Kwun Tong is one of the densest districts in Hong Kong with lot of offices. Our church targeted to establish a new format of church space in this office area. Located in a high rised office building on top of the busy shopping mall APM, Methodist City Space transformed a office space into a relaxing corner in Kwun Tong. It is a flexible space which allows church gatherings, talks and counciling services.

Do you know 1 sqm. actually cost you HKD $100,000 ? “Housing price in Hong Kong is expensive.” Yes, people from all over the world know this. The crazy housing price in Hong Kong also led to a pessimistic thought among the citizens. “What are we working for? We work day and night for 3o years but all our salaries go to the rent.” I collaborated with “Think Big, Act Big” on this housing workshop on rethinking how much space do we actually need and try to explore the potential of housing within the limited space supply in Hong Kong. I criticized on the typical flat units of Hong Kong’s housing system. People have different lifestyles today so their needs of space differentiated. The improvement of information technology also allow us to live in small space with a computer. Of course we want a big house. But this time I am asking “How much do you want to pay for your house?”

The project is to rebuild part of the old warehouse. The existing condition of the warehouse is dark and unfriendly. Also there are a lot of unused space like the open yard.
The Site - A old warehouse built in 1950
Platform and covered canopy is built in the unused open yard with a linkage of lifts. Studies on traffic speed and turning radius were done to ensure the smooth flow of cars within the warehouse. Entire lighting system was replaced. Lux level was recalculated, we aimed to create a light and welcomed environment for the warehouse.

The warehouse is located next to the sea, which can be saw by the passegers of the Tsing Yi metro line.Due to the superb location of the warehouse, facade renovation is also conducted to create an iconic image of the warehouse.

Concept
The project is to design the venue for DUFTSTAR 2012, which is the oscar of perfume in Germany.
The Site
The challenge is to reimage the strong concrete architecture into the mood of romantic, elegant and a bit surreal. Strong lighting and oversized bottles with flowers were used as design theme. The whole project covered from outdoor, interior to furniture design. Bottle

Office design for Avant/Garde Diaries, New York, USA NOVONO The project is to design the office of a New York media magazine Avant/Garde Diaries.
Concept
Exhibitions and screening events are expected to be held in the office. Therefore a clean and flexible studio space is required. Movable Screening box with flexible table and shelf system are to be designed in order to accomodate the users’ need.

The project is to design and build a pop up restaurant in an old building in the city centre of Berlin. The Pret A Diner restaurant travelled around the world and stayed three months in Concept every city. The construction time is one week. The design concept of Pret A Diner Berlin was inspired by the architectural feature of the building. There are lots cage-liked window frames in the building, with the very limited lighting supply of the building the site looks like a prision.

An architect’s Destiny 建築師的命運 (now - who knows) The story of the centipede is from the book <<Sophie’s World>>
Once upon a time there was a centipede with one hundred legs. He is the best dancer of the forest. All animals were amazed by the dance of this centipede. He can utilize every single leg to perform the dance. In there forest, there is an animal who dislike his dance: The tortoise. The tortoise keeps thinking, he must think of a way to stop the centipede dancing; But it will not be easy to stop the centipede dancing, as all the animals in the forest loves his dance. Finally, the tortoise decided to write a letter to the centipede. "Dear Mr. centipede, I am writing to you because I were deeply touched by your dance and it would be great if you can share with me your dancing technique.
從前有一隻百腿蜈蚣，是森林裡面最擅長跳舞的動物。 所有的動物都因為蜈蚣能用盡一百隻腿跳出精妙的舞而大大感動，唯獨全森林裡有一隻動物不喜歡蜈蚣的 舞： 烏龜。 烏龜前思後想，定要想出方法令蜈蚣不再跳舞； 但全森林的動物都非常喜愛蜈蚣的舞,，單憑三言兩語 最後，烏龜寫了一封信給蜈蚣。
不能令蜈蚣停止跳舞。

It suddenly flashed in my mind that one time I were having lunch with a veteran architect who had been in the field for forty years. He shared that brave design can be only done when you are young. It is the time when you have no burden. Because after you come to a certain day, when you pick up your pen and going to draw a line, This line can t. Building authority won t approve. This line can t. The hoarding doesn t fit." "This line can t. There is no space for drainage pipes." "This line can t. The planning department has objection."
突然閃過之前跟一位做了建築師四十多年的老前輩吃飯時，他跟我解釋有勇氣的設計就是要在年經最沒有 負擔的時候做， 因為到了某一天，當你拿起筆準備做設計時…… 就在畫第一條線的一刹那…… 「這條線不行,建築署不會批」 「這條線不行,不夠位起圍街板」 「這條線不行,無位走渠」 「這條線不行,規劃署不會批」 我連一條線都畫不了。

回到蜈蚣的故事，因為蜈蚣一開始是無意識地勇敢跳舞。當出現邏輯和理據的挑戰時他失去了對自己的一份 信念。
People said there is a destiny for architect. Maybe I am still too innocent to understand the destiny of an architect.
