Geminus Head Start and Early Head Start prepares young children and families for future success in school and life, and helps connect families with needed community services. Geminus Head Start continues to show and emphasize the importance of Early learning on brain development of young children beginning at birth and continuing through age 8 or third grade. In response To these findings, Geminus has expanded our program into the Early Head Start arena and now provides child development services for prenatal care and for children birth to age three in both Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana. With the scope of Geminus Head Start services offered to more than 1,500 children and their parents in Northwest Indiana, we have the capacity to make a difference in many lives on a daily basis. Dr. Leonard Jozwiak, Vice-President of Geminus Head Start commented that “We believe that children are our most valuable Resource and that their productive development is foundational to a successful future for our society. It is our obligation, as providers and stewards of Head Start services to purposefully offer quality education and support to every child, every parent, every day, if we intend to make a difference.”Dr. Jozwiak also noted that a significant difference between Head Start/Early Head Start and other pre-school programs is that our emphasis is on the whole child and the empowerment of families. Geminus Corporation in Merrillville has been an approved grantee of this federally funded, no cost to families, program since 1997 and operates 24 Head Start sites, Early Head Start and Home-Based Services as well, in Lake and Porter Counties. Some home-based services in Lake County are provided within a collaborative relationship with Parents as Teachers, Lake County.
