Bas Of T remiers of the last year under 12, division 2 basketball grand final, WEMBLEY! Do they have what it takes to win another?

The only way Wembley will be able to win a second grand final would be to be fully focused, come to training just to train, train hard and do extra work whenever they get the chance. The Wembley under 14’s basketball team work great as a team. Each player knows their strengths, and their weaknesses, that’s what makes them such a fantas,c team. Wembley also has a couple of tall people. Overall, Wembley is a great team to watch on the court.

Basketballer Of The Season George Perry is a superstar, he can rebound, he can shoot, he can drive, and he is only 11! This boy is absolutely amazing. He keeps the teams spirit up, and is a great team player. Overall Wembley have plenty poten,al they just need to believe in themselves and their skills and abili,es.

2010 Cricket Grand Final

I

n 2010 the Spotswood Cricket Club managed to beat all odds and strive their way through to the grand-final. Although they lost, it was a great achievement to get that far.

In the semi-final, Hamish Hobson lifted their spirits when he caught out the best batsman going round. The ball was flying 100 kilometres per hour and somehow he caught it. Kye and Ben also made a fantastic 50 run partnership to seal the deal.

When the grand-final came along Spotswood was unprepared. They just didn’t want it as much as Altona. In the end it was obvious that Spotswood was going to lose. It was only a 12 run margin but Spotswood couldn’t defend their score.

Spotswood was still happy with themselves and their teammates for what they had achieved.

enry Blackmore is a hard working, keen footballer. He has fantas)c skills and is pre y light on his feet. Henry is a great rover and he is prepared to take on anyone or anything.

How do you think Yarraville went this year? “I don’t think we went to well this season, we just didn’t play to the best of our abili)es.” Do the Eagles have what it takes to finish in the top 4 next season? “No, because they are all going to high school and they would probably rather focus on that.” Which footballer inspires you the most and why? “Gary Able , he is a good footballer all round. He is a lot like me, I’m choosing to go to a different football club, it’s a very hard decision but hopefully I make the right choice.” Who is your favourite team and why? “The Gold Coast Suns, because they’re a new team with a lot of young superstars.” What do you think are Yarraville’s strengths and weaknesses? “One of our strengths is running with the ball. A weakness is applying pressure in our backline.” What will it take for Yarraville to win a grand final? “We will need to work on our fitness, pressure and numbers around the ball.” Overall what do you think of Yarraville? “They have a lot of poten)al; they just need to work on their skills and abili)es.” There you have it, Henry’s opinion on the Yarraville Seddon Eagles. Yarraville might struggle a bit without their small midfielder, but to Henry, good luck at your new team.

Slip, Slide, Grip and Ride

They speak for themselves.

Lately there has been a lot of controversy choosing who the top 10 players of the year are. I’ve done my research, looking at everyone’s opinions and this is what I came up with. 10. Jobe Watson (Essendon) The Bombers captain had been having an excellent season until he tweaked his hamstring in Round 8 against Brisbane. Watson has removed the clangers from his game and has become quite lethal with his right boot, actually kicking 13 goals for Essendon this year. He averages 28 touches a game and provides real leadership for his side. 9. Nat Fyfe (Fremantle) 8. Dean Cox (West Coast) The big Eagle has been the best ruckman in 2011 and this comes after a few injury-troubled years. Cox has the most hit-outs in the AFL this season with almost 400 which shows the advantage he gives his on ballers. As well, 'Big Cox' has the fourth most contested marks in the AFL this season with 27 grabs, and a lot of those have come in his defensive 50 helping out his backline. 7. Lance Franklin (Hawthorn) 6. James Kelly (Geelong) 'Pops' Kelly has stepped up to a new level in Gary Ablett's absence and has arguably been Geelong's best player in 2011. The Cats have a fairly even spread of talent this season (which means there's only one in my top 10) and while Kelly's return of an average of 24 disposals per game isn't amazing, it's his tough work which makes him a star. It may surprise many that Kelly has the fourthmost tackles in the AFL this season. One thing, though, is he probably needs to work on his disposal efficiency.

2. Chris Judd (Carlton) The Blues skipper is having a wonderful season and many fans believe 4. Gary Ablett Jnr (Gold Coast) Ablett may he's probably leading the Brownlow Medal have moved from last year's preliminary race. His individual performance in the Round finalists to this year's likely wooden 6 win in Sydney was outstanding. He's recreatspooners, but he's still producing outed his game at Carlton in the past few years standing footy and averaging over 30 and the fact he has the fifth most contested possessions in the AFL in 2011 and is in the top touches a game. The Suns skipper has worked hard at clearances and has won tacklers is evidence of that. Judd also has the 158 contested possessions, the eighth best sixth most disposals in the AFL this season. The only negative aspect of his season has been his in the AFL this season. Ablett also has proaccuracy in front of goal.

5. Marc Murphy (Carlton)

vided 55 inside 50s which is phenomenal in a weak side. His leadership has been questioned at times, but he's one who leads by example.

3. Dale Thomas (Collingwood) St Kilda coach Ross Lyon made a big statement when he said Thomas was the best player in the AFL. To be fair, he said it the week before the Saints were due to meet the Magpies, so it may not have been totally his honest opinion. However, Thomas has had a sensational season, producing fantastic attacking footy with crucial goals, alongside excellent defensive play which is so crucial in the modern day game. He's got magic, but he works hard too, which makes him a genuine superstar.

1. Scott Pendlebury (Collingwood) Collingwood's smooth-moving midfielder has had the best season so far in 2011, which makes him this years number 1 footballer. Pendlebury has the 12th most disposals in the AFL this season, but he's also in the top 20 tacklers too, showing he's an all-round star. The composed 23year-old also has provided 53 inside 50s which shows his attacking danger, particularly when his effective disposal percentage is almost at the 80 per cent figure. And to add to that Pendlebury has the class to stand up when needed and we shouldn't forget the goal that was against Geelong in the top-of-the-table clash. And there it is, the top 10 AFL superstars of the year. Scott Pendlebury the number 1 superstar. Finishing a close second was Chris Judd, then 3rd, Dale Thomas. Each and every one of these players are all great for different reasons, some are on the list because of their possessions, some are on there for their skills and abilities, but these 10 are definitely the best footballer’s going around.
