K.A.L.E.I.D GEMMA WICKHAM H00130267 FASHION YEAR THREE COMMERCIAL PORTFOLIO E19CP
But that night, we stared in wonder
wide eyed but scared to wonder..........
You didn’t wake me from my kaleidoscope dream.
K.A.L.E.I.D.
K.A.L.E.I.D is a collection inspired initially from the dream like state and fantasy that looking in to a kaleidoscope creates. The ornate nature of the elaborate patterns created inspires many elements of the design process of this collection and affects the silhouette and colours of the clothing. This collection incorporates the work of artist Olafur Eliasson who creates kaleidoscopic sculptures from glass. As well as this, the collection combines these inspirations with the very similar idea of stained glass and religious windows featured in churches. This collection aims to create urban luxe clothing combined with elaborate print and geometric shapes. The colour palette, very much inspired by Olafur Eliasson is reflected through icey pale tones with a subtle hint of neon. As well as the colour palette and geometric shapes this collection aims to create clothing that can be interchangeable with each outfit through the carefully chosen colour palette and print. One of the prints inspired by the Holland and Sherry Herringbone print is another aspect of the colour palette which is added to complement the rest of the collection. Layering different shapes and textures around the body is also something that is explored through this work. The KA.L.E.I.D collection is intended for the dreamer, but also an individualist, someone who wants to be noticed. The other worldly sense you experience through looking in to a kaleidoscope is very much the essence of this collection.
