CHEERLEADING ACADEMY WP Cheerleading Academy is a high energy, fun athletic activity that not only fosters strong leadership and communication skills but builds physical strength as well. WP Cheerleaders will learn a variety of physical skills including cheers, chants, stunts, tumbling, jumps and dances. Skills progression training and evaluation ensure that cheerleaders do not attempt skills that are too advanced and difficult for their current ability.

SCIENCE ACADEMY Partnering with Nutty Scientists

Join Nutty Scientists™ in an exciting adventure into the world of SCIENCE! Have fun doing amazing hands-on experiments and let your curiosity run wild! Marie Laugier completed her International Baccalaureate through The International School of Stavanger. She obtained her Bachelors with Honors in Elementary Teaching and French in England. Mrs. Laugier loves teaching and watching children learn. She has taught a range of ages in many schools and a range of extracurricular interests that improve her as a teacher. Her desire of showing children how fun Science can be has led her to Nutty Scientists and cannot wait to start classes at our The Woodlands Prep!

BASKETBALL ACADEMY Basketball has been a large part of Coach Sosa’s life for the past 12 years. Teaching the fundamentals of the game is very rewarding for him. He would like to share his knowledge of the game with the students of The Woodlands Preparatory School. Coach Sosa has designed The Woodlands Prep Basketball Academy with three objectives in mind: 1) To provide a basketball academy with club level instructions for our students. 2) To introduce our student athletes to more in depth instruction and advanced drill sessions. 3) To create a world class basketball program for our school. The Woodlands Prep Basketball Academy will be a fundamental skill driven program designed to introduce new players to the game and still challenge experienced players. Individual skill concepts will focus on: shooting, ball handling, footwork, passing, motion concepts and man-to-man defense.

WPS BASKETBALL INFORMATION •

FOR BOYS AND GIRLS GRADES 3-8

Three sessions (7weeks per session) offered during the school year: • Fall: September 29 – November 5 • Winter: November 10 – January 28 • Spring: February 9 – April 18 Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:00 Cost: Each session is $300. Each player must also wear the approved uniform. Uniform cost is $85.

BALLET ACADEMY This class will take the students from their first introduction to the art through a more advanced study, where the dancers will have the opportunity to perfect their technique and form so it flows naturally from within. They will develop self-motivation, discipline, poise, grace, and an appreciation for the arts, which they will carry throughout their lives. Ana Wonchee is currently obtaining a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies from the Royal Academy of Dance, to be concluded by October 2015. Before that, Ana achieved the advanced level of Cuban Ballet Method and Advanced Foundation level of the Royal Academy of Dance. She has taught for over 20 years to girls and boys of all levels. For students that enroll in this program please consider that the first two weeks will work as a tryout period, to evaluate the level, age appropriateness and ability of the child. After that period, teacher may suggest moving them to a different class.

WPS BALLET ACADEMY INFORMATION •

AGES 7 YEARS AND UP

Preprimary in Dance, Primary in Dance and ages 7 and up, Ballet grades 1– 5: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:15, 4:15-5:15, 5:15-6:15 PM. depending on the grade level and age group. • The opening of classes depends on a minimum of 5 students enrolled, ability and age. Groups will be conformed after the tryout period.

• Preprimary and Primary in Dance uniform: pink short sleeved leotard, pink georgette wrap over skirt, pink socks and pink soft toe ballet shoes with elastic. • Ballet Grades 1, 2 and 3: navy sleeveless or short sleeved scooped neck leotard, navy elasticated belt, pink short socks or tights and pink soft ballet shoes with elastic or ribbons. • Ballet Grades 4 and 5: lavender sleeveless or short sleeved scooped neck leotard, lavender elasticated belt, pink short socks or tights and pink soft ballet shoes with elastic or ribbons. • Uniforms can be bought in Jazz Rags store, but also can be bought elsewhere. • For tryout weeks students are encouraged to bring a leotard with ballet shoes or any appropriate clothes for dancing or athletic purposes. • Hair in all cases must be pulled up in a bun. • FEE: $300 Preprimary in Dance (twice a week). $300 Primary in Dance and Ballet grades 1-5 (twice a week).

KUNG FU ACADEMY Partnering with Hebei Chinese Martial Arts Institute

Master Wuzhong Jia founded Hebei Chinese Martial Arts Institute in Dallas in 2002. He started training at the age of seven and since then he studied Wushu under many renowned Grandmasters. He has participated in International Wushu-KungFu Championships since 2000 and was Grand Champion from 2001-2003. He will dedicate his life to reveal to others the ancient and secret cultural legacy that promises improved health and well-being to people of all nations. To help you get where you want to go, whatever your goal or desire is, we should acknowledge that the journey is always the purpose. Respect, discipline and patience are basic in the teaching and learning of this martial art. This class will help the students develop martial skills, improve their health through exercise and pursuit their spiritual development.

EQUESTRIAN ACADEMY Partnering with HARAS Equestrian Center

Haras Dos Cavaleiros is a global Equestrian brand originated during the mid-90’s in Mexico that expanded to Portugal and the United States. Established in Magnolia, Texas since 2009 in an amazing luxurious horse facility. Haras is one of the very few Equestrian Centers that organize competitions recognized by National and Worldwide Equestrian Associations. This academy will make ancient culture of horsemanship available to students and will teach them to know, understand, and enjoy the global equine culture. Most sports can be played with other individuals as partners, but in horseback riding, the other individual represents a different species, so the rider must have all his/her senses and emotions focused on the moment to build a true partnership. Riding is a physical activity that requires and improves your coordination, concentration and determination, balance, self-confidence, postural and breathing control, endurance and teamwork, among other benefits.

08 ACADEMIES WPS Alejandra Cervantes was born in Mexico City and by 2008 she moved to the Houston area where she began helping families that had a child with special needs, providing individual and integral therapy. By 2010 she was working with experts in the field regarding the horses' abilities to help children, which lead her to study Equine Therapy. Mrs. Cervantes' field of expertise includes not only education, but also working with animals. She is in charge of coordinating the Equitation Program as well as the contents of the text books and the work books as Haras Academic Coordinator. Tiago Ernesto, a native of Portugal, is a graduate of the Portuguese School of Equestrian Arts. A gifted working equitation and dressage trainer and clinician, Tiago is currently head trainer at Haras Dos Cavaleiros in Magnolia, Texas, where he also manages the farm’s Lusitano breeding program. Tiago’s show record includes a number of championships and awards, both in Portugal and the US. Antonio Garcia Roldan, of Cadiz, Spain and by the age of 14, he was a member of Alvaro Domecq's performance team for international exhibitions. A gifted Working Equitation and Dressage rider, Antonio joined the Haras Dos Cavaleiros team as a trainer in 2012. Since joining Haras, Antonio has continued to add to his long list of competition results. For example, Working Equitation Champion with Adagio DC at Pin Oak Charity Horse show in both 2013 and 2014.

2. Practice (riding and equine care): Tuesdays and Thursdays. • Students will choose their class hour on a first come, first served basis. • 1 hour per class, divided in: • One on one sessions of 20 - 25 min from 3:30 to 7:30 pm (8 sessions available per day). • Half-hour sessions in the stable to learn about safety, cleaning and care of the horse and use of tack (saddles, bridles, etc.) 3. Fees: $1,300 (this fee covers from September 29 to December 12. No refunds will apply and a uniform is required.

ART ACADEMY Instill in your children a love for art and storytelling. In this class the students will explore the different ways illustrations tell the story and experiment new techniques, though the use of new and familiar tools and art forms to produce fabulous art. Also they will explore the principles of art while focusing on one country at a time. The courses will end with an Art Reception open to the families. Artist Karina Eisner taught and exhibited her work in England and US. She currently works on pieces brimming with color, creating murals and large acrylic pieces, seeking patterns in nature, and participating in collaborative projects. A full time educator, she facilitates art classes and workshops, including photography, prints, sculpture, collage, paintings and mixed media. Through multisensory, hands on experiences, she encourages students to think creatively and express themselves in new and unique ways with the support of literature, music, and technology.

The sessions for young kids are literacy based -kids will explore a variety of art techniques based on Caldecott award illustrators (please, mention this if you have room in the invite you are designing, Caldecott medal is the highest US honor to book artists). They will create their own individual works.

CREART: 7-9 YEARS; MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY 4:30-6PM. The older kids will be exposed to different art forms around the world, and learn about culture diversity through hands on explorations, from Japanese Sumi paint to African patterns and Art Nouveau design.

Partnering with TGA Premier Junior Golf

With a curriculum that focuses on improving motor skills and physical fitness, the students will learn self-confidence and life values through professional golf instruction, and have fun doing it. This class teaches the fundamentals, etiquette and rules of the game in a comfortable environment to come out and tee it up with TGA.

ROBOTICS Students will design, build, program and control fully-functional models using Lego EV3 Nao Robots are programmable and autonomous humanoid Robot used in many universities, schools and laboratories around the world, and available at The Woodlands Preparatory School. This course is a hands on learning experience with NAO Humanoid Robots. Program your robot to walk, talk, recognize objects, recognize your face, dance, interact with other robots and many other exciting things.

WPS AFTERCARE WPS AFTERCARE Starting first day of school, the Aftercare program is offered daily to students of WP School. The afternoon program is filled with cooperative games, crafts and stories.

1. HOURS OF OPERATION Child care will be provided Monday through Friday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Child care will not be provided on the following dates: Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Spring Break, and April Break. Childcare will be offered on December 18, 19, and 20th from 12:15 – 5:00 for an additional charge.

Payment will be collected by Mrs. Karoline Sitarski, cash or check. The Music Room is designated for this activity, please pick up kids directly there. To sign up, please email Mrs. Sitarski at ksitarski@woodlandsprep.org and she will provide the sign up forms.
