BELLES & BULLS OF THE BLUEGRASS
SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 2024 / 12:00 PM EDT
Bluegrass Stockyards Regional Marketplace / Lexington, KY 25th Annual Simmental/SimAngus Bull and Female Sale
We would like to invite you to join us at the 2024 Belles and Bulls of the Bluegrass Sale, our 25th anniversary spring sale. We are proud of our longevity and the fact that this is the longest continuously running Simmental bull sale east of the Mississippi. In addition to that, this is Wayward Hill Farm and Dr. Henry and Lou Ann Allen’s 50th year in the Simmental business! Be sure to check out a VERY SPECIAL Lot “50” in this sale, which is quite a way to celebrate this milestone! We are committed to making this a diverse production sale offering of cattle that are built to increase your profit margins.
This year we say goodbye, good luck, and thank you to our good friends, Rondal and Judy Dawson of Misty Meadows Farm, as they have decided to slow down a bit and not sell in this sale going forward. They have been a strong partner for us in the sale for many years, and we will miss having them selling along side us, but we know they will be there in support of the sale with us!
Feeder cattle are seeing record prices to reward all of us for our hard work, and the bulls in this offering are a set where you can find the calving ease, increased pounds at weaning and carcass merit to help you be at the top of the market! Heterosis is the cheapest tool we have, and these bulls will provide it to you. The females selling are highly maternal and we believe they offer the traits needed as the nation rebuilds its cow herd. The genomics are complete on every lot in the sale, every animal selling is homozygous polled, every bull qualifies for Kentucky CAIP funding, and as we have said, they are all bred, born and developed in the fescue-based environment where many of them will run. They are hardy and will thrive anywhere. There is something here for everyone.
We hope you can come and appreciate this fantastic set of cattle in person, and sit in the seats and bid on them—they are worth the trip from anywhere! As always, we will be broadcasting the sale live online on DVAuction.com and all videos will be available there. See page 4 for our guarantee and some additional information about what we believe sets us apart. Please reach out to any of our consignors or consultants for assistance: Ryan Haefner, Dalton Lundy, Brent Tolle, Thomas Lundy, Lydell Meier, Todd Alford, or Chad Joines. We feel that we have assembled a top-notch marketing team and that you have a lot of options to evaluate these cattle.
We will be continuing to communicate via Facebook. Follow us at facebook.com/bellesbullsofthebluegrass for real time updates, sale order, etc. and www.bellesandbullsofthebluegrass.com. We hope to see you soon in Lexington. Please give anyone involved in the sale a call if you have questions or want to find a time to come see the cattle before their arrival in Lexington.
Thank you and enjoy this fantastic set of cattle that combine phenotype with genotype and common sense on April 6th!

What a great way to lead off the 2024 Belles and Bulls of the Bluegrass Sale! K65 is the epitome of what we at WHF and SSS try to produce - quality cattle that are phenotypically and genotypically appealing. K65 surfaced to the top pretty quickly. As an individual on hoof he has been a standout since the beginning. Then the data started to come in. Lightest in his contemporaries for BW, second highest for WW and third highest for YW. He is coming together as a true spread bull. Factor in his EPDs and he becomes the total package. Maternal sister sells as Lot 23. A cow family that does not miss. Sired by the very hot sire Point Proven adds to the excitement of the future of K65. Qualifies for CAIP.
WAYWARD
Scale smashing power bull with some added look is the best way to describe K382. This Point Proven son is one of the highest performing bulls we are selling. He has the highest adjusted YW of our fall born bulls. He should breed very true to the growth numbers he is showing in his EPD profile. This is one that gets us extra excited for all the things he puts together on hoof and on paper. Tenfold daughters produce top bulls. Last year’s high seller was out of a Tenfold daughter. K382 is the type of bull we have been looking for to use ourselves. If we were not as heavily vested in the Delilah family, he would probably just stay at WHF and breed cows. Qualifies for CAIP.

A couple years ago we sold a beautiful baldy donor cow, 344D. She slipped through the eyes of many purebred breeders and ended up at our friends, Joe Jennette and Troy Hager. We are finally seeing the results of the flushes prior to selling her.
K344 is a stout made baldy that could add some extra look to a calf crop. Potentially a heifer bull candidate. He has a full sister and maternal sisters in the replacement pen. Another sister sold through Boyert’s sale to the Fidler Family. Be sure to check out Lot 127, a maternal brother. We believe in this cow family. Black baldies with good feet and udders never go out of style. K344 has the potential to produce those. Qualifies for CAIP.
WAYWARDCalving ease Point Proven son that stems back to our Andie donor on the dam side. K362 has some added length and look. Out of a first calf heifer that is raising another stout bull calf. Qualifies for CAIP.
If you are looking to fix structure and add more flexibility to your cow herd, then K315 is your bull. At 9 years old, we are still AI breeding his mother. This bull is built for longevity. Qualifies for CAIP.
Here are a pair of full brothers to the very hot bull, Point Proven. The proof of this mating is all over this sale. We put a lot of faith in this mating in our donor pen. We have two full sisters we are currently flushing, both previous high sellers that we sold half interest in. Tim Schaeffer is touting two of the best Simmentals he has ever raised are out of a full sister. We also have put a lot on Point Proven in our herd. We jumped at the chance to run him this fall breeding season. You can choose if you want a baldy or a solid black one. This is a rapid way to put some of the hottest genetics in the Simmental business in your herd. Full sister sells as Lot 26 and their mother sells as Lot 50. Qualifies for CAIP.

LOT 106When this one hit the ground, we instantly got excited. The first red son of Delilah. She has made her mark on the business with her black sons in Point Proven, Entourage, Greater Good and The Deuce. Now it is time for the red one to make his mark. Some things to think about with K452 - he is a potential heifer bull with a 15 CE and -2 BW. Also, he’s a 150 plus API on a bull with some look. The biggest thing is he is an outcross to a lot of the red genetics in the show world like the Bankroll and Profit lines that have produced a lot of reds. In addition, he is an outcross to big numbers red cattle that need some look. His paperwork will not bring them down like many other red bulls. Please reach out to discuss the potential we feel K452 has. Qualifies for CAIP.

K045 is Delilah’s natural calf. We are really high on this mating. We sold half interest in a full sister to Beshears Simmentals last year, another full sister sold to the Peterson family in Nebraska, and a full brother, WHF/JS The Deuce K45, that we own with JS Simmentals. Currently waiting for a full sister to calve; she has started a beautiful udder. We are heavily stocked in this mating from breeding to calving pens and have full confidence it is going to work. Be sure to check out his full sister selling as Lot 1. Qualifies for CAIP.
Last year our lead off set of bulls were Double Up’s. They were well received by seedstock and commercial producers. The Double Up bulls averaged $6800. After multiple days in the picture pen, we came to realize we messed up. We didn’t use Double Up enough. He consistently produces good functional cattle whether it is bulls or females. They are built for the long haul. There are several sons and daughters in the offering. Be sure to check them all out. Qualifies for CAIP.
Leading off the Andie sons is a pair of SAM bulls. Phenotype deluxe here, great footed, flexible joints, added length and extension, and their neck comes high out of their shoulders. This mating really clicked. The Greiman family from Iowa purchased a sister that went on to place in the Top 20 at Junior National and was Champion female at the Iowa State Show. We felt high enough on this mating to flush Andie back this way. These next five bulls will be maternal brothers to the legendary WHF SUMMER 365C. Qualifies for CAIP.
We have been known to think outside the box when making some matings. Not often do you see the same cow flushed to TJ Gold and SAM. These two are your more conventional beef bulls providing added thickness while maintaining good structure. Andie is ten years old and is still flawlessly structured and perfect footed. She is always fun to put on the concrete and admire those attributes. FYI, these two have a sister that will not be leaving the farm. She is another piece to the puzzle of chasing phenotype and genotype. Qualifies for CAIP.
WHF
A stout and rugged beef bull with some look leads off this set of Clear Advantage sons. Yet another Andie son that will catch your eye. Interesting genetic combination here - Andie who produced one of the most prominent show heifers of modern era and Sugar C4 who has sold more high dollar breeding bulls than most, if not all cows in the breed! We are believers in good cow families and K359 is no exception. Qualifies for CAIP.
High growth bull in the top 3% for WW and Ribeye area. A bull that gets back to the basics of performance. These are the kind that will generate dollars. His dam is a full sister to Double Up - a striking baldly cow that is picked out in the pasture by visitors. Qualifies for CAIP.
Really nice Clear Advantage son backed by an Innovator cow. His maternal sister is doing a great job in the herd with her first calf. A bull that’s solid across the board on his EPD profile. Qualifies for CAIP.
K248 is out of a first calf heifer that had a good udder. This 3/4 bull would work to make a set of replacement females or solid feeder calves. Qualifies for CAIP.
Exclusive sons and daughters have been great for us. K55 is no exception. He is backed by a really nice half blood cow that has a great udder. His maternal sister is doing a great job as a first calf heifer. Great option to make replacements or solid feeder cattle. Qualifies for CAIP.
If you are looking for the bull to add the pounds to a calf crop, then K024 is the perfect choice. He had the highest weaning weight and second highest yearling weight in his contemporary. His dam is two for two raising good bulls. The first calf sold for $7750 to McGee Livestock last year and now we get to sell K024. She is the kind of female that will keep you in business. Qualifies for CAIP.
Lots 121-123: It will be a bad day at WHF when we no longer have Innovator to run the pastures. The past several years we have sold multiple Innovator sons to commercial and seedstock producers. Now you are seeing plenty of Innovator daughters producing bulls for the sale. The impact of Innovator has been huge for us and many other breeders. This trio of sons gets us excited again this year. Pick and choose which fits your scenario best or take all three halfbrothers. Lots of potential. Qualifies for CAIP.

The sire of these next two is the H18 bull we kept to use ourselves for a season. That turned out to be a pretty good choice and maybe we shouldn’t have sold him. K360 is an impressive individual backed by an Innovator daughter. This bull has a really functional EPD profile as well. A maternal brother sold to the Harker Family last year for $6500. We have received some good reports on his calves already. Be sure and check out Lot 19 - she is a H18 daughter. A pasture full of them would keep you in business. Qualifies for CAIP.

K876 is a 198H out of Ann Lawrence Allen’s first show heifer. She had a lot of fun and a little success with Socks. She passed on a great disposition and a pretty white face. Ol Son might be one of the most underutilized bulls we have raised. They make great females and bulls that will flat grow. Combine that with the 38W cow that has 294 progenies in the database, it makes K876 a really interesting prospect. Very well balanced EPD profile and functional phenotype. Qualifies for CAIP.
What a great way to kick off the spring bull section for WHF. L344 is a striking baldy with loads of muscle and a great look. This bull gets us excited. Sired by Double Up who we believe is one of the most consistent producing sires on the market today, and out of the 344D cow who is making excellent bulls and females. This bull could excel in all aspects of the beef cattle business from feeder cattle to show cattle - he can work. He possibly could be as consistent as his sire only in a baldy package. Qualifies for CAIP.
A Double Up son with a little added look. L25 is out of a great producing Innovator daughter. His dam is a maternal sister to Delilah. She has produced four calves that have gone through the sale and the previous three have gone to seedstock producers. He has some very interesting attributes. Qualifies for CAIP.
This is the final Double Up we are selling. After these three went through the picture pen, we realized we should have used more Double Up. Another bull backed by an Innovator cow. All the stars are aligning for L248 to make someone a solid herdsire. Qualifies for CAIP.
Lover Boy x Ariel that offers a little more frame and added length. A bull with a great presence, up headed, clean in his lines and really flexible on the move. Another bull that got us pretty excited on picture day. We used a full brother, selling as Lot 155, as our heifer bull for a season. Qualifies for CAIP.
Delilah consistently produces good cattle. L457 is another Lover Boy out of her that surfaces to the top. This mating is going to gather some attention. He is a maternal brother to Point Proven, Entourage, Greater Good, The Deuce as well as many others in prominent breeder’s herds. This list is going to continue to grow. Be sure to check out his full brother selling as Lot 107 Qualifies for CAIP.

Lots 135-137: The second new sire group we are featuring is Swain Sentinel. We saw Sentinel at the State Fair and NAILE and really liked him. Then we drove to see his dam to see if we needed to move forward to purchase. After seeing his dam, it was a no brainer we needed to own him. He was Grand Champion bull at the Kentucky State Fair and Calf Champion at NAILE and Cattlemen’s Congress. Consistent quality, extra flexible in their structure, plenty of muscle to make great beef bulls and a solid EPD profile. Most of all, the disposition on all of the Sentinel calves is great. Be sure to check out this sire group. Sentinel is built for the long haul; he could be Innovator’s replacement for us. Qualifies for CAIP.

LOT 135 LOT 136 LOT 137Study this bull’s pedigree if you believe in cow families. Clear Advantage is out of the legendary Sugar C4 and goes back to the Great 015U on the sire side of his pedigree. On the dam side, you combine Delilah and Summer. The dollars generated in those family trees exceed seven digits. On hoof, he is pretty good as well. A very complete, no holes bull. We have a few females mated like this and we are very excited to get them into production. Qualifies for CAIP
This is a different mating for us at WHF. We own Sunny with 3 Aces Cattle Company. This was a mating they suggested and we said yes. It ended up being a great choice. The Rebel cattle have true real world performance and still excellent style. L367 shows to have some performance in his EPDs as well. His dam, Sunny, is a full sister to Summer, but she is just starting to write her own story. Be sure to check out his full sister selling as Lot 5. Qualifies for CAIP.
Here’s the only spring born, red bull in the offering; also, the only half blood bull in the offering. Over the past couple of years, we have flushed Angels Envy to Red Angus bulls to make something a little different. It has worked. Two years ago, our top selling bull was L245’s maternal brother, also a 1/2 blood Red Angus. He was purchased by CW Cattle Company in Nebraska. Angels Envy is still roaming the pastures at 10 years old. Qualifies for CAIP.
We started our WHF bull offering with the Point Proven sire group, and we are ending the spring bull offering with it as well. It doesn’t matter if you put L363 first or last, he is worth finding on sale day. A royally bred bull with Andie on both sides of his pedigree, Delilah, Summer and the legend 015U in there as well. All cows that have stood the test of time in the Simmental world. Looks like he could be a calving ease sire like his sire. Qualifies for CAIP.
C218K is a high-end bull that puts so many good things together; visually he’s ultra masculine with abundant muscle dimension to add to pay weight. Yet, he remains smooth made, clean jointed, and attractive. When you get into his data, he delivers actual performance with 776 pounds of WW and 1189 at yearling. His pedigree is a total outcross to most of the Simmental gene pool and comes from a cow family with a rich history for producing high-end herd sires, with his donor dam being a maternal sister to the famous KCC1 Exclusive. He wraps this all up with an EPD profile that is difficult to replicate with ELITE CE, BW, Carcass and Indexes and strong growth figures--a very unique and intriguing prospect! Qualifies for CAIP.
This bull comes from a young cow who is really proving herself as a herdsire maker year after year. He is stout, rugged and growth oriented, having posted a 732 pound weaning weight and being 1128 at a year. This is a soft made, easy fleshing, low maintenance bull who will produce calves with the kind of doability, growth and power to make you money. He can be used in a wide array of ways, being very versatile with great calving ease and low birth weight, while also having strong performance figures and top end API and TI indexes. Qualifies for CAIP.
This is a long made, attractive, square hipped bull who will inject a dose of look, stretch and stoutness in his calves. His sire is one of the best-balanced trait sires we have ever used and this bull delivers the same things. He’s a do it all kind of bull who will produce calves that will be well accepted at sale time. Qualifies for CAIP.
This is as close to a sure thing as you can get for calving ease and being heifer safe! This stout made, moderate framed bull is a model for low input costs and efficiency. He started out small but was one of our best growing bulls from weaning to yearling gaining more than 450 pounds in that time frame on fescue grass pasture. As the country’s cow herd gets built back up, there are going to be a lot of heifers calving and he will be a specialist in this role! Buy with confidence and have a good night’s sleep during calving season. Qualifies for CAIP.
LOT 145 LOT 144We think this is a truly special creature. We are constantly looking for bulls to use that will create good looking, stout, high phenotype cattle but have breed leading EPDs and indexes. We think we have created that with this bull about as well as any we have been able to find anywhere across the country. His young dam is a daughter of the famous Havana, making this bull from the same blood lines as many top sellers across the country, including the $450K 3BCC KCC1 Krypton in the 2023 Hartman Bull Sale. We identified her as a future donor for us based on her functional design and perfect foot structure. C304L carries all of these traits. He is moderate made with a big top and hind quarter. You can read his breed leading numbers for yourself, but when you combine them with his phenotype, it solidifies him as an elite herdsire prospect. Qualifies for CAIP.
SWAIN SELECT SIMMENTAL 3/4 SM 1/4 AN | Homo Polled | Homo BlackThis is the maternal brother to Swain Sentinel that we own with Wayward Hill Farm. His outcross dam has earned her right to be a donor for us with her outstanding production, and C303L may just be one of her best yet. He is long made, growthy, big bodied and super functional in his design. The Progressive sired cattle have been very popular in the bull sales this spring, and we think this unique individual is one of the best to sell yet. He is in the top 15% for 11 EPD traits, with mind boggling calving ease to growth trait spread, including top 3% for WW and top 1% for YW! He is one of only twenty bulls in the ASA database with this combination! His indexes are elite as well and he performed in the flesh, starting with a modest 80 pound birthweight and exploding to 854 at weaning and 1348 at yearling. He is truly unusual in terms of how he combines phenotype and genotype, and we think he has a very bright future and could be a breed changing herdsire. Qualifies for CAIP.
This bull is stout, big bodied and impressive. He is the product of two of the favorite ones we have ever raised here. He is the first calf ever born out of Sentinel and unfortunately the last calf out of one of our very favorites, Hot Tamale 719E. I think this big bodied and soft structured bull can work in a wide variety of settings. He is easy fleshing with a ton of growth and muscle and is one that can work well in the herds of the most discriminating breeders. Qualifies for CAIP.
This one represents a bit of a different pedigree for us, designed to have a bit more look, muscle and power. His young dam is a female we really like. She is beautifully designed with a picture-perfect udder and she was the Senior Champion female at the NAILE a couple of years ago. When you get behind this one, he is abundantly muscled in his hip and down his top and ties it together in a really smooth package. Qualifies for CAIP.

A bull that is admired for his calving ease and great indexes, all while maintaining a look that can win in the show ring. A truly versatile bull. J360 looks to have just a little more performance as an individual. Not only is he Woodford’s brother, there are a couple of other half brothers who have made their way in the breed: Ol’ Son and Double Up. WAYWARD HILL FARMWhen we started planning for this sale, we wanted to do something special. Fifty years ago, Dr. Henry Allen bought his first Simmental cattle. He has seen many breeders come and go. One thing that has been constant throughout is his love for good Simmental cattle.
As Wayward Hill Farm celebrates a half of a century in the Simmental business, we’ve decided to make this milestone memorable and offer something truly extraordinary. Our journey to this point wasn’t built on parting with the exceptional ones. After much contemplation, we reached the decision that offering up half interest in WHF Delilah 45D would be that rare exception! Delilah’s remarkable contributions over the years, from the impressive progeny to the substantial revenue generated, underscore her significance. In last year’s sale alone, her progeny included: a half interest $50,000 daughter, a half interest $25,000 daughter, a $16,000 daughter, a $21,000 flush, a $10,000 bull and a $5,750 bull. In addition, her embryos commanded an average price of $2,200 each at Cattlemen’s Congress.
Over the years, we have intentionally limited the sale of her embryos in order to not flood the market but we could have with her exceptional embryo production. She can fill a tank fast! The page on the right highlights some of her progeny. This offers you valuable insights into this unique investment opportunity. This is half embryo interest and no possession. Please reach out for the details of this lot.

It is only fitting we start the open heifer division off with a daughter of Delilah. 304L is a full sister to the high selling open from the 2023 sale going to Beshears Simmental, half interest for $25,000 and also, the second high selling open going to Emerson Peterson. This mating has been great for us producing high sellers and producing a promotional bull in WHF/JS The Deuce, owned with JS Simmentals. 304L has the build of a future donor and could have a little fun showing on the way to the donor pen. This heifer is an absolute pet. Would be suitable for a first year project.
Stunning red baldies are always fun. They catch the attention of everyone and they are hard to forget. The first time we ever saw Bet on Red, we knew this was a mating that needed to be made. Angels Envy really clicked with him. This striking red baldy will find many friends sale day and will find friends if you go to cow shows or just turn her out. We sold a full sister at the 2023 NAILE to Ashlyn Popp. She recently was selected Kentucky Champion Simmental heifer at the 2024 Kentucky Beef Expo. 305L is a maternal sister to Delilah. The future is bright for this red baldy.

If you want to make a big bred for next summer, then study hard on 453L. This one gets better every day. All she needs is someone to be patient and let her come together. This was one of our most anticipated calves of the 2023 fall crop. 453L is the natural calf out of WHF Delilah 453L (AKA Lexie), the 2023 high selling female. Half interest sold for $50,000 to John Justice and Tylertown. She went on to be 3rd overall at the 2023 Eastern Regional. She made many friends on her trips to town. Admired for her excellent phenotype combined with solid EPDs. Another female that could suit a first timer or someone chasing their last show seasons and wanting to go out with a bang. Offered with Justice Farms and Tylertown Simmentals.

If you are looking for a breeding piece to add some phenotype and genotype, then 306L is your one stop heifer. She is the combination heifer of the eight we are selling. Ten EPDs in the top 50%. Epic consistently produces really functional cattle. Combine that with the hot pedigree of her dam, a full sister to Point Proven, our top seller from last year now in the donor pen and one of Schaefer, Boyert and Buck Creek’s new donors. Her dam, Lila, was the 2021 top selling open - half interest going to the Walther family in Indiana. She never got to reach her show potential due to injury, but she is proving herself in the donor pen. We are really excited about getting more matings on this female over the next few years.

We need to thank Lydell Meier for getting us to agree on this out of the box mating for WHF. This heifer is another introduction to WHF Sunny 367F, our donor we own with 3 Aces. Plenty more to come in the future out of this cow!
Check out this cool November heifer. She is good in her lines, has a fancy presence and flexible structure. She needs time and patience to let it all come together. The success we have had with Summer has been great; high selling females and promotional bulls. We like to stack our best cow families together as much as we can, so it was a no brainer to flush Summer to Entourage. FULL SISTER TO DAM, SOLD FOR $90,000
This snip nosed heifer has us excited. Her dam is a donor we own with the Hege/Dickerson family. When we sold her, we knew we needed to stay involved; she was so stout made, sound structured and had enough look for us. She is a full sister to a former NAILE champion for the Udell family, and also a full sister to the top selling heifer at the 2023 Made in the Midwest Sale. 301L is a Next Level that is worth coming to take a look at. She is good at the ground, flexible in her joints and has plenty of stoutness.
Cow power is the best way to describe this female. She is stout, powerful, easy keeping all while maintaining good structure and still has some look. This one reads future donor cow. She has multiple maternal sisters that have gathered a few banners in their show careers. The list of accolades Andie daughters have gathered is second to none. At nine years old, she still stands on a perfect foot and great leg structure. Combine all that with Remedy and it makes something special. The more Remedy cattle we see, the more we like them. They look like they are making great production cattle, not just show cattle.

WAYWARD HILL FARM/ BESHEARS SIMMENTALYou will see a theme in these females if you read all of our comments--cow families and maternal strength. This 1/2 blood bred female combines two of the most proven impressive cows we have come across in our travels in the Kearns foundation donor Ford RJ Dolly Y83 and Coleman Donna 714. We believe in cow families and are building around ones that have produced over and over. Dolly C217K is beautifully designed, square made, big bodied and attractive in her look. She has the elegance and softness you would expect in an Angus with the power of hip and top you would expect in a Simmental. There are so many things you can do with this elite pedigreed and super phenotype female. We are excited to see her progress for whoever ends up with her.
This bred female comes from the Cotton Candy cow family going back to the great H25. Her dam is a flush mate to the Nickles Show Stock top selling bred purchase in the sale a couple of years ago. Her maternal strength is built in. This Gold daughter is as elegant and angular as you can make one. I know what she is going to look like as a 4 year old, and I will not be surprised if she is in someone’s donor pasture at that point. Her pedigree is as unique as her look and her long square hip, swooping belly and pretty front will be fun to mate with so many of the new bulls that are out there now.
One of the most famous and prolific cows of any breed is SAV Blackcap May 4136. This bred heifer traces directly to her. Her young dam will be a big part of our future and we decided to share the first one she raised with you. This moderate made heifer is as soft structured as you can make one. Her hip design and attractive look, coupled with her powerful pedigree and highly useful EPD profile make her one that can produce at a very high level.
This striking, young bred female comes from the Ebonys Joy L-123 family which is as good as the Simmental breed has had. This bald face female catches everyone’s eye and certainly has made friends with everyone who has seen her. She is as bold in her rib shape as any in our offering and the power and stoutness she has from behind is impressive. Couple that with her elegant head and neck and she is quite a package. She is broke to tie and it wouldn’t take much if someone decided they wanted to get her broke to lead to show this summer. She still has this year of eligibility to show if someone wanted to do it you might have some fun.
This powerfully constructed, red bred heifer stems from the Hook’s Patti 3P cow family via our Hook’s Abigail 23A donor. Both of these cows represent a long line of massively made power cows with a great deal of production success. 211K is an outcross to most red lines and is mated up to the heterozygous black Uno Mas to give you a chance to have a red baby right off the bat. Her maternal brother by Uno Mas was one of our top sellers in the bull sale a couple of years ago, so we have seen this mating work.
This is a young Guardian bred female that goes back to the Angus legend from the famous Wehrmann herd, Rita 5H11, through our Double Dip donor. She is powerfully made and correct in her design with all the bells and whistles in her EPD profile. She is one that you can do a lot of things with given her extraordinary CE and BW, Carcass values and Indexes. She is softer structured, more moderate framed and easier fleshing than many of the Guardians we have seen. She is an intriguing prospect for sure!
These two bred females are out of the past $30K Black Label Sale topper, HOC Bianca, who resides at Fenton Farms, tracing back to the Kearns Cattle Co. and Cow Camp Ranch donor CCR Misty May, who produced multiple high sellers for both programs, including a lead off bull in the National Western Grand Champion Pen of bulls for Kearns. These heifers are good looking, rugged made and big footed cattle who will produce stout powerful bulls as well as good looking, attractive females. They are very similar in their design both being moderate made, big ended cattle, with the biggest difference being that 212K is homozygous black and 225K is heterozygous black.
This stout made cow prospect traces back to our Double Dip donor and the famous Angus matriarch for Wehrmann Angus, Rita 5H11. We love our OMF Epic females and he certainly worked well here. They are making wonderful cows that are easy to be around and have beautiful udders. Additionally, we believe that they are extra efficient in terms of maintaining their weight on less input than some cattle. This one is similar in type and kind to our top selling bred heifer last year who sold to the Moore Family of Cedar Lane Cattle Company in TN. When you look at this one’s paperwork in combination with her phenotype, you like her even more. She has a set of EPDs that are hard to match with high percentile ranking numbers across the board with top 25% for seven traits including CE, BW, API and TI. This is a special bred female that is a model of what we are working hard to produce.
SWAIN SELECT SIMMENTALAnother Andie daughter that has come on strong. 364K has been a standout for some time now, but it went to a whole new level when she developed an udder. She became a close to perfect built bred heifer. We have a sister in the donor pen we own with Mundy Farms from Tennessee. She had a successful show career for Eli Mundy. 364K looks to be following in her footsteps and making her way to a donor pen somewhere. Sells with a bull calf at side by the Lot 155 bull.

All bulls in the catalog have genomically enhanced EPDs. You can use the Kentucky Bull Assessment Tool to determine if they qualify for the program. As always, please contact your county extension office for more information and assistance.
Kentucky Bull Assessment Tool: http://afs.ca.uky.edu/beef/kbat
Kentucky Bull Assessment Calculator: http://afs.ca.uky.edu/beef/KBAT-buyers
Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPDs are expressed in:
All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purposesire scenario. (See below for more details.)
Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.
Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in firstcalving daughters.
Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.
Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.

$ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes:
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentileranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed.
