The yearling bulls offered this spring represent 84 years of selecting for a kind of cattle that work for our customers; a rugged, performance-driven, problem-free bull that can earn his keep and prove himself worthy of another breeding season. We take great pride in helping our customers create value at home within their own herd. Cow herds, red and black, report to us “All-Time High” weaning weights, calving being remarkably carefree and simple, and replacements that nurse bigger calves than their solid black contemporaries, every time. Our drive to produce better purebred cattle comes from the success and demands of our customers. In order to meet those needs, our herd must operate as yours does. Our replacement females are selected on maternal traits, not EPDs. Conformation, fleshing ability, and reproductive efficiency remain the highest priorities. It starts with good mothers; licking the calf and getting it up, calving ease, and a disposition that keeps the wife happy. We firmly believe disposition might be the most hidden, economically relevant trait that there is. Our bulls are among the most gentle, best natured bulls you can find. We guarantee it. Our cows have to milk well enough to raise a big calf, and breed back within a 45-day window. If a cow can’t fulfill those job responsibilities, we wish her luck. If she’s not good enough for us, her sons aren’t good enough for you. Feel confident in knowing these bulls represent the best of our best. Not every bull should have his nuts. The same should go for humans. My what a better world we’d live in. Being sold on a first-come, first-served basis, please call and make your selection with haste. University studies in Wyoming and data from Montana and Colorado lend credence to the following conclusions:

1. The birth weight itself influences calving ease by 65%. 2. The female has 60-70% influence on birth weight of her calf. 3. The bull has 30-40% influence on birth weight of his progeny. 4. Pelvic measurement and angle as well as the shape of the calf, have 35-40% influence on calving ease. 5. Length of gestation greatly affects birth weight. A fetus can gain over one pound per day in the last days of gestation. 6. Weather and temperature the last 30 days affect the length of gestation. 7. Size and maturity of the cow influence calving ease. Most commercial producers do not take birth weights. Guessing is as inaccurate as driving with a broken speedometer â&#x20AC;&#x201C; what is thought to be 55 mph may in fact be 6570 mph, and what is thought to be 70-80 lbs. may actually be 80-90 lbs. Remember, if everything is relevant, increased growth, frame and performance will increase birth weight. A longer-bodied calf will weigh more. If a calf is expected to have genetics for growth, it will display this prior to birth as well as after. As a rule of thumb, it takes a calf weighing 85 lb. at birth to finish at 1,200-1,250 lbs. A cow should easily give birth to a calf weighing 8% of her own body weight. Thus, a 1,200 pound cow should give birth to a 96 lb. calf with ease.

With red to the ground, no feather, those massive goggled-eyes, and herdbull features, I told Kate when he hit the ground this might be our best bull yet. Rogue has not only gained & performed as good as any on the ranch, but his mass & dimension just do not stop coming. Always incredible footed and correct in his angles, his body, shape and substance have just kept expanding. Rogue has the most lower third of any bull we’ve ever seen here. Always the stoutest, most muscular bull calf over the past year, his shape is what we hope to have in every bull we market in the future. His mother has been on the ranch the longest, and consistently makes our heaviest weaning, heaviest yearling bulls we go to sell. Heifer Bull Alert! He’s offered, he’s available, and if he doesn’t find someone that thinks he’s as special as we do, he’s gonna remain on the ranch and cover our heifers this spring. We AI’d our heifers the past couple years to Lambeau 17Y, and we’ve been super happy with the calves our heifers have calved and raised. His mother, a now second calver, is quickly identifying herself as one of our best 2016 models. She raised this whale of a bull for us in 2018, yet she bred back immediately, and has a killer looking Divergent bull calf that I’m already confident will make the bull yard next year. The Tundra cow has done it again with this super powerful Laramie son that’s as big topped and big ribbed as any bull in the yard. A dark red, conservatively marked bull, he weaned off the cow at over 800 pounds. We had two other full brothers to this bull at weaning, and all summer long, they were the most massive, tanky, powerful bulls in the bunch. Study the shape this bull can inject into your calves. Last year, two maternal brothers were the first bulls sold out of the pen, and they’ve done an excellent job so far covering black heifers up in the Big Sandy area. A bull that’s had my eye all summer long, this super sound footed, good structured yearling bull has extra class. Out of our most ruthless herd bull, Legacy 5003, we know he’ll get the cows settled. We would turn his daddy out on a set of cows, and I’ve never seen a bull with so much drive to breed; he is a breeding machine. This bull has been a standout since calving, and his look has demanded our attention every time we check cows. This Sniper son out of our 2044 cow has the power, muscle, and density we’re after. From day one, we knew this bull had the potential to be something great. When you calve enough of em, you can tell what the calf should bring to the table. And just like our lead Hereford bull 8078, Recluse made that same impression. A stout, square topped, dense-middled bull with an elite presence. I firmly believe, good cattle know they’re good. This bull is always shooting you a pose, and he’ll hold your attention from every angle. Feet are where we believe the Red Angus breed has the most room for improvement. This is one of the top reasons we love this bull. A solid, round foot with heel, and it’s placed to the ground so that the wear is right. A direct son of one of our best donor cows, SLGN Stony’s Becca 4215, she held breeder’s interest through 2015-16 as the most decorated Red Angus female that season. Her first calf, H/H Stony’s Becca 6800, claimed Reserve National Champion in 2017 for Marin Eeg. Now in marketing her second round of progeny, she’s produced two sons by Power Eye. Both extremely high quality Red Angus cattle, but different in the reasons they impress you. We’re offering ½ Interest & ½ Possession, in search of a partner that loves this bull as much as we do, and is ready for a fun ride.

Our heaviest weaning, heaviest yearling bull, he has grown among the very best in the breed. When I dream about what I want our whole offering of Red Angus bulls to look like some day, this stud embodies that kind. This is a beef bull; rugged, masculine, stout and powerful, incredible top and body shape, with a structural base to last for years. “Power Grid”, as I’ve come to call him, does so many things right. His mother, Becca, is about as gorgeous of a cow as you’ll find; a massive, big ribbed, stylish cow with an udder that’ll make your mouth water. If you’re like so many other cattlemen that are trying to inject the power and performance back into your calf crop, after years of bulls whose main purpose was to provide low birth weight, this is a bull that can do that. Practical calving ease, with scale busting performance and a look that’ll make buyers sit up in their chairs and take notice when your weaned calves walk in.

This bull, and the potential he can have, makes me so very excited for the future. His presence is undeniable. He’s arguably the hardest bull to flaw for the most critical of eyes. We have bulls on offer that are bigger boned and more masculine looking, but the style, length, correctness and head-turning look here represents things that I personally feel are so hard to build in Red Angus cattle. As he matured, he stayed right with the group, recording big weaning numbers and displaying a surprising amount of shape and power for as killer-looking as he is. Most of his impressive look stems from his mother, “April Fools”, a super long bodied, beautiful cow that made quite a splash in Louisville, Kentucky back in 2015. Mark my words; you’ll see heifer calves in our annual Flash & Function sale by this bull. Moreover, maternal siblings by April Fools that should highlight our sale this coming October.
