THE CENTER FOR FAITH AND PRACTICE Regardless of where you are in your journey of faith, God does not want you to walk alone. The Center for Faith and Practice is deeply committed to guiding you toward a stronger relationship with Christ. Chapel The entire college community gathers weekly to praise God, hear His word, and seek His favor and direction. Throughout the year, you will hear testimonies from faculty, pastors, fellow students and a variety of other nationally-known speakers and invited guests. Discipleship Student discipleship coordinators facilitate spiritual growth on campus through mentoring both resident and commuter students and leading Bible studies. Missions The Quest Program affords students the opportunity to step outside their comfort zone and serve others. Students bring relief and minister to others in a variety of local, domestic and international locations. Service Reach out to the community through the Studentsin-Service (SIS) program, or through Geneva’s many partnerships with local churches, schools and non-proﬁt organizations. Opportunities to serve include building and renovating for needy people with Habitat for Humanity, mentoring young people in the area at Tiger Pause Youth Ministries, working with the elderly in the SIS Senior Ministry and more. CCCU and Geneva At Geneva College, all members of the faculty and staff are evangelical Christians and are active in their churches. A commitment to employ only candidates who profess faith in Jesus Christ is a requirement in becoming a part of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU), of which Geneva is a founding member. This important distinction sets Geneva apart from other religiously afﬁliated colleges and universities that aren’t members of the CCCU, and ensures that our campus environment endorses and strengthens Christian values. 3

FACULTY The faculty is at the heart of every college. At Geneva, you will find professors who are committed to excellence in learning. In addition to their exemplary educational preparation, many have real-world work experience in their fields. We have education professors who have been teachers, chemistry professors who have been chemists and business faculty who have held executive posts. Our faculty will share this broad range of education and experience with you to engage you in your field and prepare you for life beyond the classroom. And with a low student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1, Geneva presents a welcoming learning environment that encourages personal interaction between you and your professors. Faculty members at Geneva will also intentionally challenge you to grow in your Christian faith. All tenure track professors are required to produce a faith and learning paper that clearly demonstrates the integration of faith with their specific discipline. MAJORS Geneva offers nearly 40 undergraduate majors to choose from, and you can personalize your academic experience with dual majors, minors and concentrations. If you still can’t find the right fit, design an independent major to match your unique interests. We know that exploring all the academic options and career opportunities in front of you can be challenging. If you aren’t sure what you want to study, don’t worry. Geneva can provide focus and direction to your search to help you meet that challenge. Many students enter Geneva College with undeclared majors. We offer programs and services specifically designed to help you assess your strengths and talents and connect them to academic programs.

CORE CURRICULUM The courses that make up the core curriculum provide the academic framework for everything you learn at Geneva. As you explore the arts, sciences, humanities and more from a biblical perspective, you will develop a Christian worldview that reveals how faith in Jesus Christ impacts every area of learning, your life and career, and the whole of creation. No matter which major you choose, you will receive a well-rounded education through required courses in biblical studies; communications; humanities; physical education; and the natural, social and political sciences.

AFFILIATED PROGRAMS Geneva offers a number of afﬁliated programs, providing the advantages of an accredited, Christ-centered liberal arts education at Geneva in combination with specialized instruction at another institution. These include visual communication programs in partnership with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, environmental science courses at Au Sable Institute’s various locations throughout the world, a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree program in cardiovascular sciences with the nationally-recognized Inova Heart and Vascular Institute in Falls Church, VA, and the 3&3 Program through the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary (RPTS) in Pittsburgh, which allows students to receive a bachelor’s degree from Geneva and a Master of Divinity from RPTS in only six years.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology and education go hand in hand, and Geneva provides you with the tools necessary for academic success in the 21st Century. Wi-Fi is available across campus and each student receives a Geneva email account. Geneva’s Technology Services Department is on hand to provide you network support and access. In addition, several general and discipline-speciﬁc computer labs staffed by lab assistants are available for your use. You will ﬁnd the McCartney Library a tremendous resource in conducting research, writing papers and exploring God’s creation. The library’s resources and collections include over 400,000 items, as well as a growing array of electronic databases and books that are accessible online 24/7. Librarians are available to help you navigate these sources and provide research help.

Our science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) students experience hands-on learning with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including research grade electronics, general and specialized computer laboratories, and optical and other measurement equipment. The Science & Engineering Building provides classrooms and laboratories for biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics and physics majors. Rapp Technical Design Center is used by engineering students for the design and creation of technological products in cooperation with Geneva’s Pinkerton Center for Technology Development, which supports research work.

Geneva has many excellent music ensembles including the Genevans choir, Marching Band, the New Song music and drama ministry, Symphonic Band, and more. Our theater program produces shows every semester, alternating between musicals and classical play performances. And WGEV Studios offers programming and production experience in radio, television and news media.

Geneva also operates several houses: Barbato House, Kerr House, Patterson House, Richardson House and Swanson House. Commuters Students who don’t live on campus remain a vital part of the Geneva community. Many local students opt to live at home and we offer a variety of opportunities for them to connect to campus life. Campus Food Services There are a number of places on campus where you can gather with friends to enjoy a meal and time of fellowship. Geneva offers a variety of meal plans and cash or pre-purchased FLEX points can be used to purchase snacks, drinks and other “grab and go” products. Alexander Hall The dining commons in Alex’s provides a variety of excellent buffet dining options. The Brigadoon Centrally located in the Student Center, the “Brig” is ideal for hanging out, studying and grabbing a quick meal on your way to class. The Riverview Café The Riverview offers a full line of hot and cold drinks, as well as fresh-baked pastries.

Physical activity is an important part of life—not only do health and fitness affect academic performance, but we are called to be good stewards of all the gifts given to us by God—and that includes our bodies. Geneva offers a variety of varsity, intramural and club sports to choose from, as well as a fitness center with an aerobics room and wide range of exercise equipment. Whether you play for a varsity team or just like to jog on a treadmill, we can help you find a healthy balance between work and play.

CAMPUS RECREATION If you enjoy casual sports or just want to be fit, Geneva has an activity for you. Our Fitness Center provides free weights, cardio machines and a large aerobic area for flexibility training and aerobic workouts. You also have a number of intramural and club sports to choose from, like basketball, dodgeball, flag football, women’s rugby, volleyball and more.

VARSITY SPORTS

Geneva’s student-athletes excel both in the classroom and on the playing fields. Each year, Geneva boasts numerous Academic All-Americans, as well as All-Conference performers in both men’s and women’s athletics. Our coaches focus on the development of the entire student: athletically, academically, socially and spiritually. Men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, and track and field (indoor and outdoor). Geneva also offers men’s baseball and football, and women’s softball, tennis and volleyball. Geneva College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III, the President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). TRADITIONS During its 160-year history, Geneva has developed a rich history of traditions. We love sharing the stories of our past, just as we love having students take part in creating today’s campus culture. Come to Geneva and add your story to the collection. The Golden Tornadoes Geneva sports teams were originally nicknamed the Covenanters, or “Covies,” a tribute to the school’s Scottish Presbyterian heritage. In the 1920s, however, a new moniker began appearing in student newspaper articles. Some attribute the change to a statement made by Geneva College’s Football Hall of Fame Coach Bo McMillin, who described opponent Georgia Tech’s powerful offense as “a golden tornado.” Other legends say the name comes from an actual tornado that supposedly ripped through Beaver Valley and took the gold-colored roof off of Old Main in the early 1900s. But regardless of where the nickname came from, students love the mascot Turbo and cheering on their Golden Tornadoes. My Generation Night (MGN) MGN is the annual student talent showcase described by many students as the most anticipated event of the year. The Big “G” Able to be seen from nearly everywhere on campus, a giant white “G” the size of a four-story building overlooks Reeve’s Field from a hillside across the Beaver River. Film Fest Students dress to the nines for this annual red-carpet event featuring movies written, directed, ﬁlmed and cast by Geneva students. The Victory Bell Once used to signal class changes, team captains now ring this bell in Old Main to announce their team’s victory.
