Masterplan vision for Morskoi Facad, St Petersburg
International
Think big, act locally
Recently we created a framework for the viable development of a new waterfront district of St Petersburg on the edge of the Gulf of Finland. The resulting design study and masterplan formed part of the development appraisal carried out for our Russian client. A thorough understanding of the World Heritage Site of St Petersburg and the site context motivated our approach for the 450 ha site of reclaimed land. The principles will be used to guide the architecture in the subsequent phases of development. While the project will take many years to construct, it has been set on the right course by our approach to viable masterplanning. Global experience and perspective means Savills combines local knowledge and market intelligence with UK design flair. We are working on projects in Europe and in South East Asia, as well as feasibility studies and master plans in China.

West of Waterlooville masterplan
Making the place
Good design helps engage communities The creation of well balanced new communities within interesting and responsive environments is essential for long-term successful places. Savills planning and urban design is leading the preparation of a masterplan, planning application and environmental assessment for the western urban extension of Waterlooville, Hampshire, UK. The masterplan generates thousands of new homes and a range of local facilities: health centre, community centre, schools and a mixed-use local centre. The development will incorporate a strong landscape and biodiversity structure, integrating the town with the rural hinterland and connecting it to existing landscape corridors. The layout also ensures best use of passive solar design. On a smaller scale this principle of walkable neighbourhoods is being taken forward in an urban extension of Ramsgate and Broadstairs. It seeks to connect the town centre to post-war housing estates in need of regeneration as part of a development of approximately 600 new homes and 8,000 sq m of mixeduse development.

Leadership
Extraordinary events, everyday places Working together with our planning team, we completed an analysis of the White Hart Lane stadium and surrounding area to inform the development strategy for the wider mixed-use regeneration project in which the new 56,250 seat capacity stadium will sit. Working alongside three architect and design teams, we co-ordinated the approach to master planning, the vital consultations with CABE and English Heritage and led the development of the design documentation for the application. The scheme received planning permission in 2010.
