SMALL BAGS • 40kg, 60kg and 100kg  SMALL CONTAINERS • 0.35m³ and 0.75m³  MEDIUM CONTAINERS • 2.5m³  MEGA CONTAINERS • 2.5m + diameter  CUSTOM CONTAINERS • any size available.

ELCOROCK®

The ELCOROCK® shoreline protection system comprises geotextile sandfilled containers and tubes, and can take various forms:

3

One of the reasons the ELCOROCK® coastal erosion and shoreline protection system performs so well in the harsh conditions of the coastal foreshore is the special geotextile used in the geotextile sand-filled containers and tubes. For details on why the geotextile is critical to the performance of the product, please view the presentation on this website –

“How the ELCOMAX® geotextile makes ELCOROCK® the world’s leading shoreline protection system” It is important to understand the applied forces and how the ELCOROCK® system resists the forces and achieves structural stability and durability over the long-term.

ELCOROCK®

What makes ELCOROCK® perform?

ELCOROCK®

There are 7 key dimensions that make the geotextile used in the ELCOROCK® system the best solution for the harsh conditions experienced in the coastal environment -

Several inputs require consideration when designing an ELCOROCK® structure:

Maintenance

6

The ELCOROCK® system has several maintenance benefits, including –

• ELCOROCK® units provide beach-goers with a user-friendly structure that provides great public amenity. (as shown in photo below) • Repair of damaged ELCOROCK® units is simple and easy (repair kits are available, as shown in photo below).

A 2008 government tender estimated maintenance costs for an ELCOROCK® structure at 30% of the structure’s cost over the 15 year design life of the structure – or 2% per annum - which is a very low maintenance cost for coastal structures.

ELCOROCK®

• “vandal deterrent” ELCOROCK® units provide protection against vandalism, debris, general wear-and-tear etc. (as shown in photo below)

Scour Protection

7

Toe scour protection is required • We have developed special flexible toe containers

There is a need for ‘upstream’ and ‘downstream’ protection • We recommend that the structure is “keyed in”

The designer needs to address the issue of sand loss through the structure • So we recommend placing a layer of ELC O MAX® geotextile behind and beneath the ELC O RO C K® units as a separation layer (as shown below).

ELCOROCK®

As with all marine structures:

Installation is a key element in the construction of an ELCOROCK® structure, to ensure structural stability.

To assist contractors in this, we have built special filling equipment for the small and medium containers. These units are excavator filled, with the 2.5m³ containers being hydraulically compacted for best results.

The larger tubes are filled with a sand pump or dredge – with the container size influencing the design of the unit and installation process.

Installation

We have installation equipment available to assist contractors in the construction of an ELCOROCK® structure. We also have a list of other equipment required, to ensure the installation process is simple, quick and stress-free.

We offer on-site supervision to assist in training the work crews in the installation sequences.

Installation Equipment

After the ELCOROCK® units are filled, they need to be closed. There are well established closing techniques – including stitching (using supplied sewing machines and yarn) and details to close the trunks (on the large tubes). tubes).

We can assist in training the crews in closing techniques, or provide detailed installation manuals and sample of closed units for guidance.

Installation Placement

11

The options include – • •

J-bins (using excavator and quick hitch) Modified rock grab (J-bin is preferred)

Split hull barge

(using GPS to place the units)

ELCOROCK®

 After filling and closing the ELCOROCK® units, they need to be placed. The size of the ELCOROCK® units determines how the contractor can place the units.
