It all began with a bequest. John M. George bequeathed the bulk of his estate to establish a Quaker boarding school. Six years after his death in 1887, George School was founded. Two years later, the first students graduated in 1895. Since then, bequests continue to be essential to preserving George School’s ability to make a difference in the lives of its students. Bequests build endowment and a strong endowment in turn ensures the long-term fiscal health of George School.

George School Class of 1895

A bequest is easy to create. You can give any amount, using almost any asset. You also retain control of your assets for the rest of your life. Your bequest can be unrestricted to be used where the need is greatest, or directed to support financial aid, faculty compensation, or some other purpose.

The John M. George Society was formed to honor those who have remembered the school in their estate plans. Over 375 alumni and friends have joined the John M. George Society since its establishment in 1993. If you have already included George School in your will or estate plan and you are not yet a member of the John M. George Society, please let us know.

If you would like to discuss your bequest or how a planned gift might be tailored to your situation, please contact Dave Crawford, director of planned giving, at 215-579-6571 or dave_crawford@georgeschool.org.
